Bought a Second hard drive...

(I recently bought a tower XPS 8700).  The player arrived yesterday.  I started to install it today, then realized that when I put the disc into the cage, I need 4 screws to fix it.  It has no screws provided with the hard drive.  How can I get the appropriate screws?

Hi ColinM_Campbell,

The part # for the screws to secure the hard drive with the system chassis is M297N. For screws, you can contact the local Dell support.

If you live in the United States, you can contact dell spare parts. Please see the link: http://dell.to/11GOIPD

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to answer for any further assistance.

    Thank you.

Boyfriend sorry but I think that if you don t have a second HARD drive connector you can t use a second HDD.
In addition it of not possible to add a such HARD drive connector.

If you need more disk space, you must exchange the first HARD drive or you use an external HARD drive to save your files on it.

  • Satellite A350-122 - how to install the second HARD drive?

    Hello

I'm a french owner of an A350-122 (serial no: 39169719K)

In the french of the manual user, page 1-5, it is written that it is possible to insert another disc hard, and on page 2-6, the rear of the A350-122 view shows a second branch on the left for a second hard drive.

So, I bought an SSD Intel X 25-M to put in the second location. I opened the second location and there is nothing: no sata, no power connector connector, only a location empty.

So, what's the problem with this Satellite A350-122?

    Thank you for your response.

    Hey Buddy,

I agree with the user above. Not all Satellite A350 models support a second HDD. The point is that laptops are country specific products and this feature is not available everywhere. In addition, all models A350 by using the same notebook case in order to have a crack but no connector.

In any case, you can use t a second HDD. :(

  • Adding a second hard drive to a 500-380nf Pavilion?

    I just bought a new 500-380nf Pavilion.

In the store I did understand the seller I was intending to add second hard drive to a 1 to SATA (which I already loaded with all my media files).

However, now I am home and have taken the side panel, it seems that the system a capacity for 2 more SATA connections on the motherboard, power cable from spare at least one and a lot of physical space.

BUT the chassis appears to have been designed with ONLY 2 bays - that are occupied by the existing hard drive and the optical drive.   Am I missing something?   There is a place to mount the second hard drive, isn't there?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

Some models of the HP 500 - xxx series are provsioned for a 2.5 device "(SDD ou HD)."  See the image below.

If you have removed the optical drive you can then use a 5.25 "to two hard drive adapter 2.5"since you mentioned a 2.5 hard drive".

So I want to put photos, music and other media on the second hard drive and I don't know exactly how, currently, I made an icon on the desktop, but I'm not shure if it, s the right way. Another thing, we are 2 user on this computer, and I don't know how do to not allow other users can see my photos or music, because I try, but it has access to all my media, so I don't know if it of possible to split the second hdd for 2 users?

    Thank you

Re-lead a folder to a different location or hard drive is easily accomplished by this change.

You can disable the sharing of files between users on the same computer. Here is a tutorial

  • Try adding the second hard drive

    Hello

I bought a 500-154th Pavilion in December to replace my aging system Vista. This Vista machine, finally, died yesterday, so I want to bring out the old WD 320 disc (disc SATA Cavier, manufactured in 2007) and put it in the new HP to recover some files. I have attached SATA and power cables and lit. Machine worked OK, but haven't seen the old drive in Windows 8.

I booted up the BIOS and it was perfectly listed, model number, everything, so I knew that the connections were OK. I checked the SATA ports in respect of the security of the devices and they are all enabled. If I go to Control Panel/Device Manager, it is not listed. If I check computer/manage the Virtual Drive Manager does not display it. The 320 GB which is held from the Vista operating system, but I don't see that it made a difference that I'm not the start of it. I assumed it would seem and what, if anything, I have to assign a drive letter.

I am a bit puzzled and open to all ideas.

    Hello stoke_ferry,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the Forums of HP, I would like to draw your attention to the Guide of the Forums HP first time here? Learn how to publish and more.

I understand that your old Vista computer ultimately failed and you put your desktop HP Pavilion 500-154th PC hard drive to retrieve files and it does not work. Have you thought this might be the item failed in your Vista computer? If you did all the appropriate measures to add a second hard drive and it sounds as if you have and it appears not it could be the faulty and you will not be able to recover the information easily. There are companies that can recover your data, but the cost will be very high.

I hope that I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Pavilion 6000: No power to second hard drive cable

Hard disk in the PC crashes mechanically.  You want to ghost a second hard drive before the first drive crashes completely.   Bought double the existing hard drive, but there is no connector power cable for this.  Plug SATA, but cannot turn on the second hard drive.  What should I do?

    LB1815, welcome to the forum.

If I understand your problem, this is the Connector that you need.  It converts a single SATA power cable with two connectors.  This allows you to connect two drives with the cable.  There are many other brands available on Newegg.  It is an example.

  • Recommendations for a second hard drive for my Inspiron 530 please

    Hello

I have an Inspiron 530 standard.

My main 320 HARD disk drive is approaching full and I want to add a second internal HDD.

My intention was to use the new drive as a secondary drive just to store and edit photos.

Can anyone recommend a compatible drive about 500 GB in size I can use.

Can you tell me if there a SATA drive that I need, recommended speed (RPM) and I'll need to get all the connectors etc.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice

    David

Assuming you have the Inspiron 530 mini tour and not Slimline 530 s version.

You can install any SATA 3.5 "internal hard drive 7200 RPM up to 2 TB without problem.

Discover the brands Seagate and Western Digital, also check the length of the manufacturer's warranty, unfortunately hard drives prices are extremely high, due to the flooding of the Thailand, readers, I bought last September for $40 with a promo, now costs $108.

Instructions for the installation of a second hard drive physically in a 530 are here.

You will need a SATA data cable, there should be a spare connector to SATA power inside the housing.

After you have installed the drive, enter the system setup and make sure the hard drive is "on" [We] and recognized.  The system configuration.

For windows to recognize the second hard drive, it must be partitioned and formatted. Go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, storage, disk management, right click on the new drive, select format, then you can assign a drive letter.

  • XPS 8700 adding Second hard drive

Hello - I bought recently for a XPS 8700 and I would add a second 1 to HDD - like this:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822148840

This HARD - ST1000DM003 - drive looks identical to the factory installed HDD in my XPS 8700 - SCSI\DiskATA___ST1000DM003-1CH1CC47

Is - this HARD drive identical or close to my OEM HARD drive?  That's fine with me.  I didn't need a lot of space - just need a backup disk.

1.) do I need a HARD drive caddy any?  I did not open the folder again. I do not believe after looking at manuals online, but wanted to be sure.

2.) these screws will work to set up the second HDD in the cage?

3.) cable SATA which should I buy?  Manufacturer, length, type, etc.

4.) is feeding OK with respect to capacity with a second HDD?

    Thank you. !  Sam

Update - I installed the internal hard drive, which I purchased from Newegg.  8700 XPS recognized the drive.  All I had to do was to format the drive.

Here are the things I bought.  The XPS 8700 is equipped with a stand to hold the second hard drive.  Thanks Bev.

  • Adding a second hard drive internal in a T510?

I bought the new 510 with the internal hard disk of 500 GB 7200 RPM, and I think about adding another one with the same characteristics.

    (1) is there a place to add a second hard drive

    (2) if so, would you have a second hard drive, or run a raid?

    (3) If you want a raid you would reflect the main disk failure?

    (4) what are the disadvantages of having a second disk except weight?

Lenovo said it would work in the notes to the mobile 500 GB internal drive here.

  • What cable do need me to a second hard drive on the DV7 - 4104ca. The caddy kit is the wrong cable

I bought the hard drive enclosure kit (605415-001) to install a second hard drive on my DV7 - 4104ca. The cable supplied with the kit is the same on the main hard drive, but the motherboard has only 1 conntector to cable companies. There is another free connector on the card that uses the same cable that the internal hard drive, but assistance phone HP has no idea what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know which cable (part number) I need?

Or even what it is that the type of connector called and then I can source my own cable.

    Thank you!

    You are the very welcome.

    It will be.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4180ea second hard drive

I recently bought a HP Pavilion dv7-4180ea (XE274EA #ABU). One of the reasons why I chose this laptop was because it was announced as being able to have two hard drives.

When I open the HDD I discovered that it there is no way to install a second hard drive, because the cable and the caddy is missing.

Anyone know the part number for it? The necessary cable is longer, so the previous parts for DV7 don't work with it. I called my local provider of HP, and they did not know the number of the piece, which is a little ridiculous. I probably have to pay RIP-OFF prices for something that should have been included in the laptop in the first place.

HP has not yet, but do to the sites of third parties.

    NewMode

These guys are the main suppliers of spare hard drive caddy. It will work. HP eventually will do the part available but don't hold your breath. $40 is a bit strong but not terrible. HP will charge more when they make available.

  • Install a second hard drive on Optiplex 780 Mini-Tower

I recently bought an Optiplex 780 minitower with Windows 7 DellRefurbished.com and I am happy with the machine. I would now like to add a second SATA hard drive that I bought, for which a power connector is available in the machine (the current hard drive is 250G and so is the other, I want to install.)

However, the two ports of SATA cable on the motherboard are used, one for the existing drive and one for the CD - DVD drive. I understand that there may be a separator for a SATA data cable (as there were once two connections on some slick IDE cables).

According to Belarc Advisor, the jury is Dell 0C27VV A03. Is it possible to install a second hard drive using a USB-to-SATA cable to the CD - DVD drive or the second hard drive? If so, set up a card with an internal USB connection USB PCI adapter? (I have more open slots). Or is there already a USB connection on the motherboard?

Any advice, including suggestions on the parts that I need to get, are appreciated. I see that I can buy a USB-to-SATA cable that has two USB connectors and two sets of pins of connection to the hard drive. I assume that one of the USB connections is for power to the player. I wouldn't need, because the connection of the power supply is already here and elsewhere I wonder if I can get two the casing with a PCI card USB connections. Is there a USB-to-SATA cable with only the connection of data on the disk?

The Manual explains the minitower 780 has 4 ports SATA motherboard and 2 interns, so you drive bays devriez have a place to plug in a second hard drive. (The desktop systems and small form factor 780 have 3 SATA ports). Unfortunately, the manual has a diagram of motherboard layout, so I don't know where the 2 other ports would be.

The motherboard is compatible SATA1a and SATA2. A SATA3 drive must be retro-compatible with a SATA2 motherboard, but won't work on SATA2 data transfer speed. So the price of a SATA2 drive vs a SATA3 drive and the potential future use could be considerations.

If you think that you will - eventually - upgrading to a new PC with a card mother SATA3, the new system would be able to handle the maximum speed of a SATA3 drive, but only works at speed SATA2 with a SATA2 drive.

You will need to buy a data cable SATA for your new hard drive, but it's only a little extra money...

If the manual is not correct (?) on the number of ports SATA on the motherboard, the system is supposed to have an on the rear panel eSATA port, so you can connect a player external eSATA HARD drive as an alternative.
