Brand HP Windows XP Pro for the Parallels virtual machine

I have a client who is now using an Apple iMac i5 and using Parallels Desktop. We used Parallels Transporter to migrate the physical laptop install XP Pro on Parallels in the iMac. Windows XP now wants to activate.

Given that Windows XP is no longer for sale, what are my options here. Could I activate it on the virtual computer on the iMac and upgrade the laptop for Windows 7? Others?

Unfortunately, the HP OEM Windows XP license can be activated on the original HP computer.  The license is locked BIOS HP motherboard brand proprietarty.

This kind of info are in the DB vCenter.

Not in the logfile (used for debugging purposes).

  • Impossible to change the path for the shared virtual machines

    Hello

as long as user root, in the Preferences menu, shared, VMs when I change the location and

    (1) push apply 1 time, the path is created in the right place on the hard drive but when I want to share a virtual machine and move toward this path, the default path is the default: / var/lib/vmware... not the one created by the menu setting.

Cannot change the location for the shared virtual machines.

    (2) push apply several times: odd error menu

    vmware.jpeg

    OS: Linux mandriva 64

Any ideas?  Is this a way to manually change the path in a config file?

    Best respect

Out of work station - stop pass.
Then edit datastores.xml - don't know where the files on Linux - I expect it be in/etc/vmware/hostd or something like that

  • How to set up the generic dashboard for the specified virtual machines

I have two question about "generic dashboard":

    1. I use the tag to classify certain virtual machines by role QA, DEV or PRD. If I select "Kind of resources", and then select all VM under a label, window "metrics selector" will be watch only "vCenter generated Operation Manager", it does not show metric VM. How can I see it?

    2. If I select the 'Resources' mode, then I'll be able to see the VM metrics on the window "metrics selector", but I must key in each VM name "Label to the area", it takes a lot of time if I have a lot of VM, is there no matter what symbol I can use to match this field with name column "resource"?

Mode 'Resources like' or 'Resource', both ok for me, I want to just install a widget to display using the specified CPU VM real fast.

    Any information is appreciated!

You will see that vC generated Ops metric because you are looking at the tag, which is a resourcekind. This switch of resources is "not" a filter label, these are the actual resources. If you want to see all the virtual machines, select the resourcekind 'virtual machine '.

Generic dashboard is rarely used to show - all - kinds of resources, it is generally used for static selection for specific purposes. If you want to display all types of a resource type and apply a tag filter, you can select a different widget to display this information.

There is no symbols that can act as wildcards, as you suggest. When you are 'kind of resources' mode, you need not fill out a label for the box.

  • Second data store for the shared virtual machine

IM thinking about to migrate my existing VMWare Server 2.x to VMWare Workstation 8.

My server is a machine selfbuild W2k8 with Core i7, 24 GB of ram, an SSD for the OS and two 500 GB HDDs. Due to performance issues an VM is placed on a separate HARD disk. I want to keep the configuration like this.

At the time where I'm using a trial version of WS8 and may not know how to set up a second datastore for shared virtual machines on a second hard drive. Is this possible at all? Or y at - it an alternative to solve this problem? Creation of a RAID0, isn't my favorite option.

    Thanks for the reply.

It is not implemented by using a second data store for shared virtual computers.

    Workaround solution:
Suppose you have the original data store C:\vms and a second D:\vms

then create a junction for each directory in D:\vms like that

    C:\vms\VM1 D:\vms\VM1 junction.exe

    C:\vms\VM2 D:\vms\VM2 junction.exe
    ....

then the vmx files from doubleclick in C:\vms\VM1 and configure the virtual machine to share.

On Windows 7, use mklink.exe instead
    On Linux hosts use ln

    Hey all,.

I have a long script that I've been put together so that our operations people size new virtual machines.  I ask a series of questions for such things as the VM name, cluster, VLAN, plug hardware, OS/template, etc.  I use LucD method to create a temporary copy of a customization OS specification to insert a static IP address.  I have everything works except that I can't figure out how this script drop-down list:

    storageprofiledropdown.jpg

vSphere 5.0, any VCD.  Looks like it should be pretty simple, but I can't find anything on how to do it.  It would be nice to choose this in the New - VM cmdlet somewhere, as well as the use of the GUI.  Any ideas?

Throw a glance PowerCLI 5.8, when it is available, there is a charge storage profile cmdlets in there (as we showed in our VMworld session this week).

From what I've observed, the media files are saved on the catlog. If you click Catlog and right-click on the media file and click Open, you would see the details on the file (datastore, host). When you return to My Cloud and select the virtual machine, you will get to see the ESX host where it is now supplied the data store where the CD must be shared with this ESX host where the virtual machine is configured.

I'm not sure if there is no work around and shared storage usage is mandatory. Try to use Openfiler to create shared storage and use at end of test.

  • Problem of password for the XP virtual machine

I bought a new computer with Windows7 Pro operating system.  Some of my old XP programs would not load or work with Windows7, so I downloaded the VM and Windows XP to run in my Windows 7 operating system.  I installed my old programs and they work perfectly.  I haven't used Windows XP with the enemy of the VM a period of time and now when I try, I can not connect to activate XP.  He told me that I used the wrong info login.  How can I know what my username and password?

    Hello

Have you done a recent software or changes to the material on the computer?

When you install Windows XP Mode, it automatically creates a user account named XPMUser.  If you want to use a different name:

    a. log in as XPMUser.

    b. create a new computer administrator account with the name that you want.

    c. close XPMUser.

    d. log in to the new account and create a password.

You can then remove the XPMUser account if you wish.

  • Can't access file system host (MAC) shared in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client when wanting to create a VMware image (Windows 7 in Parallels virtual machine running on a MAC) for the option of machine Powered On.

File HOST (Mac) system is currently shared in the Parallels virtual machine and is accessible through Windows Explorer and works correctly in the Virtual Machine environment, however, after installing vCenter Converter application on the Windows virtual machine these shared folders are not accessible from the conversion tool in the selection of the target destination of the file VMware (s). I can't select an existing folder on drive "C:" to write the image so that there is not enough space available for the VMware image and it must be written in a different file system, while the image is being created.

Anyone know a way around it to show the target to write the image on the host (MAC OS) file system or is it a bug?

Thanks for the reply.  It seems that the maps are not displayed if they were created as actions by the hosts.  When I created a mapping directly from Windows, then this mapping appeared and the conversion worked fine.

No, you can't. Why do you do this? It is not an upgrade; the
two are the same; only licensing rules are different.

  • The transition to Windows 7 pro for Windows 10 Pro for Adobe CC

    Hi all

I would like to get comments on the transition to Windows 7 Pro for Windows 10 Pro. I'm currently running windows 7 pro 64-bit with Creative cloud mainly for video editing applications (Organization, After effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, hearing etc... (I always use first CS6 and Encore CS6 for some projects more elders and Authoring).

My computer configuration is the following:

-Windows 7 Pro Service pack 1

-Processor Intel Core i7-4960 X [email protected]

    -Motherboard: Asus P9X79

    -64 GB of RAM

-SSD 512 GB Pro 840 Samsung

    -2 x ASUS GeForce GTX780

-9To hard (3 x 3-Western Digital Caviar Black) in Raid 0 for video work

-Hard disk data CaviarBlack WD 2 TB

I would evaluate whether it's a good idea to transition to windows 10 pro, is the update is going to be done automatically without having to reinstall all the software?

I'd appreciate your comments of a person with a configuration similar to mine, or by experts from Adobe
