Brand new computer and Windows Update offers updates of pilot

I received a custom build e9280t yesterday and did the thing of the installation and migration.  Windows Update offers already updates for the ATI Radeon HD 4850 video card and JMicron JMB36X controller.  I guess I have several questions.

1 can I install drivers provided by Windows Update

2 How often should I update drivers?

3. in the case of the video card should I update from Windows Update or ATI?

4. If I install ATI should I install the ' ATI Catalyst™ 9.11 Suite for Windows 7 (64 bit) "or simply thedriver only option of the ATI Catalyst™ 9.11 components for Windows 7 (64 bit)?

I have a card ATI video in a long time and the outcome of pilot and the options have always confused me with what must be downloaded and installed.

Thanks for any help.

John, here are the answers to your questions:

(1) Yes, I would.  I wonder however, no offer to update your BIOS before checking further.  Updated HP has been known to be incorrect.  A failed BIOS flash makes it an expensive boat anchor.

(2) update as soon as there is a new driver.  Manufacturers use updates to fix problems.

(3) it's up to you.  I don't think that HP makes changes of owners of the video cards in their computers.  So, if it were me, I would use those ATI/AMD.

(4) go with the 'Software Suite '.  This includes some cool utilities to adjust your map.  One of the features that I like is "Overdrive".  It allows you to overclock the card and adjust the speed of the fan on the fly.  I'm still using XP Pro SP3, but the last consequence works very well with my 4870 XXX 1 GB.

I hope this info is useful.

  • new computer and windows disk install problem

I bought a new processor MB ram graphics card components but I left my ssd drive and there is a problem... when I tried to install windows, it told me my MBR disk and must be TPG to install windows... but I don't have windows on my SSD because I did the format of this drive... Pls tell me how I can install windows on this drive.

    Hi Kelly,

This could be due to the fact that the partition may have changed for the hard drive.

I suggest you to connect the hard drive to a working computer and then convert the partition to the disk GUID partition table format.

Follow the steps for a computer of Windows 8:

    (a) save or transfer the data to the MBR basic disk (MBR) record that you want to convert into a disk GUID partition table (GPT). If the disc does not contain any partitions or volumes, go to the next step.

    (b) press the Windows and X key, then select disk management.

    (c) if the disk contains no partitions or volumes, go to the next step. Otherwise, click on all volumes on the disk and then click Delete Partition or Delete the Volume.

    (d) right click on the MBR disk that you want to change into a GPT disk and then click convert to GPT disk.

    Hello

You should go to the system manufacturer's website and get the latest network drivers wifi and card.

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AS ADMIN - REBOOT after each driver.

Maybe the other pilots. software and updates to the BIOS, you can get there.

Control Panel - Device Manager - double-click on a device and check the version.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • I got a new computer and media center tv quality units is not good

I just got a brand new computer and I have a tv tuner that I used on my computer spent and now the quality is not good. It is very grainy. I use the same screen and everything.

    Hi Mikey,

Thanks for posting this question in the Microsoft Community.

As I understand it the quality is not good, when viewing the Media Center TV. Before we begin, I have to ask you a few questions.

You have installed the drivers for the TV tuner on the new computer?

You can also start the computer in a clean boot State, and check if all third-party software can be the cause of the problem.

Note: when you are finished troubleshooting, follow step 3, mentioned in the article to start the computer to a normal startup.

You can also visit the manufacturer of TV tuner for all of the updated drivers and install the same.

Hope this information is helpful and let us know if you need more assistance. We will be happy to help you.

  • updates to Windows 8 on brand new computer

    Hello

I just unpacked a brand new Acer Aspire.  I understand that it is preloaded with 8 64-bit windows.  The windows store said I could upgrade to windows 8.1 but I should update windows 8 first. I changed the settings, update manually and searched the updates of windows 8 that were a little more than 100. I asked to install 87failed them, but about.  I could get on the desktop and the glance at the history of the update - clearly says update failed.  Tried troubleshooting windows update which said it corrects a problem with admin rights and tried again.  Same result - impossible to download anything, just stuck on the download screen.  Searched your forums and have now tried a system restore before the effort to update at all.  I'm a little afraid of what to do then - seems like my brand new computer is screwed up in 4 hours!   Grateful for the advice...

System a i5 processor, 500 GB hard drive... Seems to have McAfee on this too - have not disabled because it would be on automatic updates.  The only thing I did on this topic before you try the updates was to set up my windows account (I have already one and if it was just a matter of putting on this computer that worked)

Please see "answer" below for more information - do not seem to be able to edit this post until I had posted a response...?

    Hello

You only really need the KB2871389 update... Upgrade to Win 8.1 will take care of the rest...

BTW... Be sure to create some Recovery\Reinstallation support that is available on your machine...

Once you go to 8.1 win the built-in functionality your machine to FACTORY Recover\Restore most likely will not work...

Since you already had to do a system restore, you may just want to factory restore now, but burn the media first... Then you will start fresh.

Also... more pre-installed OS are the original version, so the more you buy a machine after the first version you can expect to need updates for each month that goes by...

Once a Service Pack is released the latest machines can have, and update the counter starts again.

8.1 win is not called a Service Pack, but it's basically the same thing...

One more thing... it is a very bad idea to try to install 100 updates at a time. It should work, but in reality, it is a disaster to delay... Especially when the .net Framework updates are in the mix...

Do first in groups of the same version and let your CPU usage back to 0%, before doing anything.

Don't even make a required reboot until it happens. There is a background installation that spans a long time after their installation that same Windows Update says that they are finished. They are not

Click Start > right click on computer > left click on properties > see if you have Vista 32 bit or Vista 64-bit installed.

It will also tell you which SP you have installed.

    Hello

    1. What are the troubleshooting steps correct you did to fix the problem?

2 did you a recent software or changes to the material on the computer?

I would say allowing you to run the FIXIT from the link provided and check if it helps.

You receive error 0 x 80070020 when you use the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site to install the updates

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/883825

You can also try the manual steps and check.

If you follow the manual steps to start the computer in a clean boot state, remember to start the computer in normal mode after you have completed troubleshooting.

Note: when you are finished troubleshooting, follow step 7, mentioned in the article to start the computer to a normal startup.

Note: It is possible that some data could be removed if infections are detected.

Hope this helps and keep us posted.

  • Windows 7 Build 7601 not authentic on brand new computer

Purchased my Lenovo to Fry mid October 2012.  Have already experienced several BSOD right after that MS updates were installed every time.  A few days ago, I met several BSOD right after that the Windows updates were installed.  On the last BSOD, I get the message Windows 7 Build 7601 not authentic.  Nothing I tried as suggested on screen worked, amounts to the same thing.  I am a student full time online.  Fall semester ends on Sunday, December 16, and I'm way now behind on all my homework back and my final exams in all categories.  It does not help and I have not the time to take my computer to Fry for them to take a look.  All my data is stored here.  In addition, I tried to restore to another time, when you restart the message was still there then I turned off and when rekindled later it had disappeared, but returned for the next day.  I tried to restore againn but this time it won't go away.  I don't know where my product key is, as it is not on the computer itself.  It may be on a manual but I have since moved and had the movers help me and they put things in the back of my storage unit or in boxes not recognized.  So until I go through everything in my storage unit I'm screwed.  Please help as soon as possible because it's really me screwing.

    Thank you

    Denise

You install the driver from Windows Update updates?

If so, I would avoid their installation in the future and instead to download any available hardware updates directly from the manufacturers Web site.

I also suggest that when you get a new computer and you start for the first time, you must create a system restore point.

As each new Windows 7 PC should come with a COA sticker that is attached to it, this is one evidence of a genuine license installed on the machine. If you bought it on shelf, its possible someone could have pulled off the sticker.

Always check for a real sticker or buy any of the machine.

It seems that you have bad luck with Fry, FRY well their business and the purchase of another where, there is nothing particularly special to their topic. Try to buy directly from the manufacturer online or try another store, if you live close to a Microsoft Store, you can go.

Sorry for all the problems that you are experiencing, we are just volunteers here who are trying to help other users of Windows.

  • I bought windows 8 pro discs, then my computer is dead, I can install it on the new computer of windows 8 and how do I do this?

Also, what is the difference between the pro version and the Windows 8.1 update? I'm not a pro like you old guys, simple answers would be really appreciated, thanks.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft community!

    1. Yes, you can re - install Windows 8 on a different computer.  Before you re-install in another computer, please make sure that you remove Windows 8 to the computer that you have already installed software license terms Microsoft lets a copy must be installed on one computer only.
To remove Windows 8 of the current computer, you must perform a clean installation of Windows 8. Install with previous operating system drive (Windows 7\ Vista\XP). This removes Windows 8 in the current computer and install the previous operating system.
Note: You may lose all your data when you perform a new installation, so please back up all data before installing the previous operating system.
Once you have removed Windows 8 from the current computer, download Windows 8 in the new computer and install. When installing, please provide the same license key that you used during your first installation of Windows 8. You can also find this key in the purchase confirmation email that you received.
    2. As your second question, Windows 8.1 will be a free update for users of Windows 8. Which means, you must have a version of Windows 8 in order to install Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 brings updates for the Windows 8 Pro(or any other Windows 8 version). See the following links to learn more about Windows 8.1:
