Broken shortcuts.

Microsoft does not know were is one of my program files, or which ones to run when I opened a shortcut or an exe file. I tell him manually the files are stored so that the program to run. Is it possible to solve the problem without having to reinstall XP?

You can try to fix the ".exe" and ".lnk" file associations:

'Windows XP file Association problems'

or you can try to do a system restore to a point in time before you had this problem:

A month ago, I installed this file useful this id open to a little to help me with some quests. And I turned on my auto clicker which I use just to check if my phone sleek enough to start a game. Then he just went ballistic and my mouse started moving around and closing tabs. Nothing too serious, until I've been checking the ProPresser file I have as a shortcut. This is a really useful macro and program when I opened it this error message came: "the item this shortcut referred to has been changed or moved, and this shortcut may not work correctly. You want to remove it? "The first time I obviously said no, but I must after a certain time. I tried to uninstall, but could not find in the Uninstall list or in the recycling bin. Should I change the name of the program after I install it to make it work again? What should I do someone help me please.

If you find the program in applications, you can right click to pin it anywhere?

If not browse in C:\Windows\Program file for the app, find its .exe which is the executable that opens the program, right-click send to: desktop or create a shortcut which you then drag on the desktop.

  • Problem with the taskbar and the Start - Menu icons broken shortcuts and icons 'White Pages '.

I'm having a problem with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit where all the icons outside of a couple in my in my Start menu and task bar have all lost their icons (and are now blank white pages) and clicking on their displays the screen where you choose which program to open the. Files with the INK.
I tried to empty the cache icon, but it has no effect. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are ways to fix file associations, but I would recommend first trying to use the system restore to 'back in time' before the beginning of the question.  Don't worry, the system restore does not cause you to lose all the files, emails, photos, etc.

    Hello

    1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?

Follow these steps and check if they help.

    Step 1:

I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.

    a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
    b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
    c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
    Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
    attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    Explorer.exe

    d. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.

    Step 2:

Test the issue in a new user account.

  • Missing desktop shortcuts!

Hi, last night I went to bed and everything on my desk was normal. I left the open pc, no sleep, without extended, just idle standby mode. Today I wake up, I look on the desktop and half of my shortcuts to the games disappeared. Not all the shortcuts, only half of them. And no other desktop icons where affected, not as my personal folder, trash, or my computer. Only shortcuts, which were here 5-6 hours ago. I don't a not uncheck Show Desktop Icons, so it's not the problem. I had the same problem a few weeks ago, but I run CCleaner from one day to the next, so I though maybe he deleted, but tonight it was not the case. In the event viewer, I see nothing wrong in the hours I was awake from the PC.

No idea why this is happening? I know that I can just create shortcuts again, but I want to know why this is happening.

As explained. But a question, what are the criteria to identify a broken shortcut? All of the shortcuts that I had on my desk were clearly not broken, each of them, launched the game he was supposed to. They were created from others since the installers of game or me, by copying a shortcut already in my Start menu on the desktop.

The maintenance tool also removes the 'unused' shortcuts (past three months). However, there seems to be a bug with this tool that causes the deletion of shortcuts that are in regular use, as well (that some users reported before). Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Desktop Experience]

  • Shortcuts occationaly desktop network locations stop working and after a few minutes start working again

    7 x 64 access a file from the Windows Server 2008 Server.

We have records of project on the file server that access many people without any problem.  A user has shortcuts to these network folders saved on his desk.  Once a week or two, the user will receive the broken shortcut error message:

"The item 'dossierprojet' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut works correctly."

Immediately, it can navigate to the folder by using a connected player or the UNC path with no problems.  After a few minutes the shortcut will start working again.  I created the shortcut by using a mapped drive and using the UNC path, but it continues to continue to occur.

  • How to display a hidden shortcut that is pinned to the Start Menu?

HIDDEN PIN TO THE MENU SHORTCUT START

How to display a hidden shortcut that is pinned to the Start Menu? This problem occurs very simply but does not quite simply. I've pinned a shortcut to the Start Menu before you uncheck the hidden attribute (knew I had) causing the shortcut to be recorded without being visible. When I tried to pin it again I was alerted to his presence by the fact that the second pinning made an extension of title (2). When I tried to change the title, I received the message that a link of this title was already present. I don't want to stay as a situation lasting this is why I need instructions on how to change it. I could just change the title of the second pinning something close but different but then I would have two shortcuts to the same program pinned on my Start Menu, without being able to be removed. I just * because if I can tell. I could uninstall the program and then run another program looking for broken shortcuts to 'fix' and then (I guess that means deletion when they can't be 'fixed') but I would like to avoid the extra steps for pedestrians to the advantage of learning a new technique of Windows if such jurisdiction exists. Could use this help as soon as POSSIBLE. Thank you.

  • Pinned icons broken

We are running Windows 7 SP1 x 86 with management of Persona and I see a very strange but easily reproducible behavior with shortcuts pinned in the taskbar. If I connect with a fresh profile, sign, wait for the synchronization profile, and then sign in again I've broken shortcuts pins in the taskbar. IE, Windows Explorer, etc. All that was there is now only a generic icon that invites you to delete if I click on it. Anyone else run into this? It's a fairly simple base with patches currents, Firefox, Chrome, and Office 2010 image.

I had this same problem. Activation for what fixed it for me the "Roam"Local Settings"or"AppData\Local"with the character of the user" policy. Add the ViewPM.adm administrative template to your group strategy for your virtual desktops have that option.

You can find all ADM templates on your login server at c:\program view\server\extras\grouppolicyfiles of VMware

Another possibility is a problem with the permissions on the root of your share of persona.

  • How to apply to market when the fact that the process?

Yesterday my firefox worked fine, but now when I click on one of my shortcuts, nothing happens. When I opened my task manager, I see the firefox.exe process is turned on but not the actual application. I tried to make it work for two hours. I rebooted the computer 3 times but in vain. I also ran AVG PC Tune Up, which eliminated the recording errors, Defrag, junk files and broken shortcuts with no improvement. I also ran a cache and the cookie cleaner and still nothing.

What happens when you click Ctrl + N, a new window opens when the process is running?

If she runs, and it does not show a new window, kill the process in the taskbar and double click on the new icon to see if it opens. If this isn't the case, please try a clean reinstall.

Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you remove Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You can print these steps or consult them in another browser.

    1. Download the latest version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org office and save the installer to your computer.
    2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (click on quit in the file menu or Firefox).
    3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
      • Windows:

        • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
        • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
      • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
      • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
    4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
      1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
      2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.

More information on the resettlement of Firefox can be found here.

  • Icon of the item Outlook in Windows Vista

I sometimes copy important emails from Outlook on my desktop to keep. Recently, I found that the icons for all these files 'Élément Outlook' have changed envelope (associated with Outlook 2007 emails) on the generic windows icon (associated with the files to which no specific program is assigned).

I can still open these emails without problem but when stored with many other files, it makes it difficult to identify as email without the envelope icon. I don't know how it started and so I have no idea how to do to reverse the trend. There are people who have posted similar problems on the forums, but I could not find any solution in response.

  • What will happen if I merge my file folders x 86 program on another hard drive?

I have three hard drives in my PC and you want to combine the files Program Files x 86 starting from the following locations to a folder on the third hard disk.
    Total size
C: drive is a SSD 128 GB with Windows 7 64 bit installed. Readers (with Windows XP installed) D: and F: are each 500 GB HARD drive at 7200 RPM drives.

    Former locations
C:\Windows.old\Program files (x 86): since a Windows XP install before
    C:\Program Files (x 86): Windows 7
D:\Program Files (x 86): Windows XP hard drive

    Location to move to
F:\Program files (x 86): backup unit to consolidate/merge files of

My question is: what happens if I merged all the files together into one and delete the files from their current location, other than maybe broken shortcuts?

Only (x 86) C:\Program is really active, unless since the last installation of Windows, you actually told an installer of programs to use one of the other locations, they are irrelevant.

Move the folder C:\Program (x 86) only is not simple and not supported as defined in the registry. If you want to reduce the size of the folder, you will have to reinstall applications and where they plan a custom installation option use to set somewhere else.

  • Windows 7 - Trey keys disappear without reason?

Last night I looked through the corner of my screen where the icons of trey are and saw that the clock in the taskbar had disappeared! A vacant rectangle was in its place. I got it later return by unchecking and checking the box for the clock to display in the options, but tonight I looked and saw that the button show desktop is now gone. This time I got it back by logging on and once again, but it's very strange to have just stuff BLIP! Go into the ether just like that, without any reason whatsoever. Just glance on and go!

Anyone know anything on this subject? It kinda scared me.

    Hello

Have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

When you update or upgrade programs, pinned icons that are associated with these programs can lose their associations link if there are problems with the update or upgrade process. Windows 7 runs a maintenance task and check the system for broken shortcuts. If more than four broken shortcuts are found, Windows automatically removes those broken shortcuts. If Windows does not delete the broken shortcuts, the remaining icons may be displayed incorrectly.

Icons of programs that are pinned in the taskbar may be missing or is not correctly displayed on Windows 7 computers
