Browser history dropdown still shows websites

I have cleared the cache, cookies and history - when I start typing in the browser URL window, some websites still come to the top. Why?

Your solution helped me determine it as a bookmark, I didn't know I had. Who cleaned up now.

Thank you.

  • How to restore a previous session after firefox closed and deforested browsing history, is still any chance to get it there?

Accidentally closed down the pc and firefox did not return with option restore previous session in the first screen even in history-Restory previous session is gray. My settings are own history after closing firefox.
Y at - it no change to return on my tabs from previous session even browsing history has been cleaned? I'd appreciate your help!

In general, FireFox will behave in 1 of 3 ways when restarting after a stoppage.

    1 kill Shutdown
This occurs when the FireFox process ends with a TerminateProcess() appeal or if the process of FireFox crashes. It's a dirty, no cleaning is done. When restarting after this FireFox will show a dialog "well, this is embarrassing' with options to restore the items selected from the previous session.

    2 force Shutdown
This occurs when another process ask FireFox to shut down cleanly (for example, a reboot of the PC) by a call to ExitProcessEx() and does not ask confirmation of the user. Normally, when this type of shutdown happens, Firefox will just restore all tabs and sessions without asking. However if Firefox is set automatically delete the history on shutdown, it may not. I suspect that this is your case. I would suggest to the FF team remove that history should be ignored in this case, only a stop of the user must delete the history.

    3 judgment of the user.
That's when said user Firefox close (by selecting exit or by closing all the tabs etc...). Confirmation is requested to close all tabs (if enabled and more than 1 tab is open). When the computer reboots, nothing is restored.

Unfortunately, if you have enabled clear auto history, there is no way to recover the previous session. I'm sorry.

Hi, I can not say when it started, but I noticed that if I use my default search provider, to go pick up this or that, once the results page is up and I click one of the links and go read something else, if I want to come back on this page from search results is it not the case to find.  The BACK button takes me to any page, I was just before I did the search and browsers HISTORY even does not display any page Google serach in his SEO results.

I think that it is something so new (?) because I went back for the results of research for years, at least, I think that was the case.  But lately, this search page disappears and I have to get again tell a second link, then a third and so on.  That certainly seems good.  I checked for obvious preferences settings in Safari, but can't find anything obvious that could be the cause.

  • Why isn't my browser history appear?

I have my browser set to remember my story, but when I go to the sidebar to look at the browser history, nothing shows up! Also, when I close a tab (for example a tab of this site), and I'm going to the 'recently closed tabs' option under the 'history' section, the Mozilla icon appears on the tab I have just closed. I hope you understand what I mean. Help, please!

In respect of the history Manager, do you mean the "history" menu drop-down, then the option "show all history"? If so, then when I click on "show all history" a lot of the history of my browser from today is still missing. I also went to my Firefox profile, looked "places.sqlite" files, & décliqués the thing 'read only '. That seemed to fix one of the other problems I had where I could not remove one of my favorites (the "delete" option was did not highlight. However, I think that this particular issue is corrected now. I just wish I could understand how to restore the rest of my browser history I had 3 months ago. Thanks for the help though.

  • Why will not erase my browser history?

This latest update has been awful for a very basic computer like me user. I have used Mozilla with happiness for years, but the amount of time I spent trying to get back to the way I like it starts to get me back at all. Chrome is looking awfully good right now.

I already spent hours trying to get rid of the Yahoo thing that appeared suddenly like my search engine, and now my browser history will not clear. I used to be able to show the history and delete. Easy! Now even when history says that it is clear, even when I closed all tabs before closing mozilla (with the exception of my Google home page) when I reopen it Mozilla four tabs are back. It should, based on my my use prior, only open to my home page if I want to restart my previous tabs he asks me. Why is this happening?

I'm a very basic computer user and this diversion suddenly my browser and search engine is a bit painful actully and frankly I'm sick of trying to fix it.

Yay, love the internet. Found a way around it and what was the problem. I clicked on the wrong thing when settting to the top of my homepage apprently. Complaints about upgrade are still standing. Very frustrating.

  • I have Windows XP and you want to clear all of my browsing history.

I'm in Internet Explorer and I used the help Option and he told me to do the following:
    1. click on 'start '.
    2. click on "Control Panel."
    3. in the find what box, type "convenience store".
    4. click on "show all".
    5. click on "security on Internet Explorer.

Well, there isn't any "Internet Explorer security" here!

I want to get rid of all my past browsing history, cookies, passwords, etc., so that nobody can see anything I did on my computer.  Also, how navigate private from this point on?

    Help, please!

    Thank you very much!

    • Internet Explorer 6?
    • Internet Explorer 7?
    • Internet Explorer 8?

Yes - the instructions may vary by"version", if you need to know what version (ALT + H, yet the ALT key, release H and press A then all the buttons then in Internet Explorer) Internet Explorer you use.

For example: to delete your browsing history in Internet Explorer 7

    1. Open Internet Options by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, clicking network and Internet, and then clicking Internet Options.

    2. Click the general tab and then, under browsing history, click delete.

    3. Under history, click clear history, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the history.

    4. Click close, and then click OK.

To remove all or part of your browsing history in Internet Explorer 8

    1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking on the Start button and then about Internet Explorer.

    2. Click the safety button, and then click delete browsing history.

    3. If you do not want to delete the cookies and files associated with websites in your Favorites list, check the box of data from the Web site preserve Favorites .

    4. Select the check box next to each category of information you want to delete.

    5. Click Remove.

As for the rest of your question - you need to better define what you mean by "go private" because if all you want to say is do not keep a history - just sure the value 0 days or put empty when you close Internet Explorer.  I wouldn't consider that private browsing, but some might if they are simply hidden some of their most obvious pieces of the local prying.

Hi, it could be a good idea to try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • Click the menu button

      click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

If this does not help, you can try this for the restoration of the bookmarks: open bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import and backup > restore and see if you have a backup there.

    Or please see-

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

  • Deleting the browser history help please.

On my home computer that only I use, I was recommended to automatically delete my browsing history when I finish a Firefox session. This is where any malicious web site tries to access my computer. I have as much as the box 'Settings for historic compensation' and have a few questions.
I will be definitely uncheck the box cookies because I don't want these deleted. What effect will have it on my computer and my future use if I uncheck and what follows: browsing history, download history, form and search, the connections active and hide?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I really need your help, please.

    Thank you, Anthony

Delete cookies will cause sites to lose some information about you.
Cookies are often used to record your logged in status and so deleting cookies can connect out of the sessions on a website. Deleting cookies can also mean that you must identify you again on sites that use cookies to remember you connected initially and want to stay connected or to be connected automatically to a later session

You can use Firefox to store the connection information in the Manager password, possibly protected by a master password, these are not cookies and remain after deletion of cookies

I would check when I went on the specific website over the past 5 months but my browser history starts just 3 months back. I had some problems with yahoo rather than taking my browser and I had to remove and reinstall firefox. Is there somewhere in my apple macbook pro a place where my browser history will be stored?

    Dear Mary,

Unfortunately, when you remove history, it is possible to recover.

I hope that I helped you.

  • Firefox does not delete browsing history in the address bar

No matter what you with Firefox in clearing the browser history by going to the history-> delete history, recent and all delete or reset FF by accessing information from troubleshooting, Firefox does not browsing history. The Web site you have traveled still appear in the address bar.

Several people have already complained about this (see thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/939028) and the response from the staff of Firefox is that it is be a malware. That's not true, I've seen versions of Firefox in own computers Windows and Mac with Firefox, do the same thing, or rather not do what it is supposed to do: clean browsing history.

How dangerous is that. Where your privacy? Firefox must find a way to fix this glitch. Something tells me they do it on purpose because it has not been fixed after him complains.

  • Can't get remember my browsing history from Firefox.

My Firefox browser (under tools and options) settings are never remember my browsing history.

However, whenever I open Firefox (even after the browser has been closed and the computer turns off), and you open a new tab, there is a grid of tiles showing the sites that I have already visited. Also, if I click on the history I can see my browsing history.

If I go into options and clear the history, these things disappear. But after a period of navigation, they are back, even with the setting "never remember history.»

How do I get Firefox to respect this setting and don't remember my browsing history?

(I tried to create a new profile, but this has not changed anything).

    Thanks for any advice,
    Matthew

You can set a different page than the new tab page by changing the pref om browser.newtab.url the topic: config page.

See this article on the page tab (topic: newtab):

You have software installed on your computer as Advanced SystemCare that could be the cause?

  • Browsing history in Firefox 17 - can I keep this for a specific number of days?

Previous versions of Firefox would be specify us how long to keep the navigation history and then automatically delete anything older than that. I can't find this option in Firefox 17. I had serious problems with FF, with frequent and long, breaks that I finally traced him to there is much too much browsing history stands. When I emptied all the browsing history, he seems to have resolved itself (fingers crossed). For the record: I also tried boot mode safe (w disabled addons), defragment my hard drive, drastically reduce the number of open tabs, etc. Erase browsing history was the only thing that makes the difference.

We can configure FF so that it will automatically delete the old browsing history? It seems to be all or nothing in tools > Options > privacy. I have FF clearly on the cache whenever I close, but I don't want to erase the history; just after a certain time (e.g. 90 days). I am aware that I can handle this manually through the history on the main menu, but I rather it would happen automatically.

Thanks in advance for the help with this.

Many versions now, historical storage Firefox is based on the number of pages, rather than the age of the pages. I don't think that it is a built-in way to prune based on age.

I have an add-on which allows you to select date ranges, but maybe it's still a manual operation: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/precise-clear-history/
