What is ESXi system managed (for example with a non-free full license) by your vCenter?  If this isn't the case, then you can not make a gesture like this.  You can probably fake it with enough script and help of some external tools to make disk copy.

  • Upgrading to ESX 3.5 host to ESXi 4.1 where the VCenter is installed on the guest system

    Hello

I try to find measures to upgrade to ESX 3.5 host to ESXi 4.1 where the vCenter Server 4.1 is installed on the system of comments on this host.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thank you

    Georgi

Should I move the virtual machines from the first RAID at one of the others? Whipe then come out the scores and perform ESXi 4.1 installation?

Yes, it's a way to do this.

Unfortunately, the ESXi 4.1 installation wipe the disk to complete installation (or logical volume) as you have experienced. Assuming that "logical partitions VMFS" you mentioned are logical volumes actually created in the RAID configuration (presented as individual of the operating system disks), you can migrate the virtual machine that is currently stored on data store of the installation disk to a data store on one of the other logical disks and then install ESXi.

  • Change of address IP of VirtualCenter, no host to ESX cluster management

    Hello all,.

Our Team MS moved our VirtualCenter server to a new IP address. But since then, I had problems with a cluster I had previously put in place.

Since the change, the cluster with 2 esx hosts cannot be destroyed, the esx hosts themselves cannot be dragged, maintenace ito disconnected or split mode.

I suspect that it is because the hosts are always sending heartbeats to the old address IP of VCenter. Any action on the cluster or host of just hangs.

Is that anyway, since the ESX servers themselves to be removed from the VCenter, so I can add?

Trying to readd the host in VC me that it is managed under a server VCenter (old IP) and if you override you will be asked to get an error "the host is already connected to this server, VirtualCenter)

    Any ideas/thoughts will be appreciated.

Have you tried to restart your Windows VC service?

  • Cannot add the ESX 6.0 host to vCenter Server 6.0

OK, I'm testing laboratory a vsan 6.0 cluster.

I have my running 6.0.0 esx hosts and vcenter server is 6.0.0 also.

I have the services platform on a virtual machine and vcenter on another. I was able to create a data center, then a cluster below.

Then I went to try to add a host to my group and I get this error...

Failed to contact the specified host (hostname\IP). The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond.

Per this KB: KB VMware: Add a host VMware ESXi/ESX from VMware vCenter Server fails

I confirmed that my vcenter server and platform services server can see all esx hosts. From the vcenter server, it can ping the host esx and PuTTY can access all of them. I even installed the client and it can connect to all esx hosts. I used the netbios name, IP and FULL domain name and they all work.

I have only a single subnet, so this isn't a problem. DNS resolution works in all areas of both sides, vcenter esx hosts and host esx to vcenter.

    I am quite puzzled.

OK, after working with VMware on this issue, I think that I thought about it.

All my hosts are DL360 G6 servers.

My hosts are run the same build «VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.2.38-Mar2015.iso» ESX Downloaded from HP.

All buildings are in trial mode.

After placing a call to VMware, they had me build some ESX VM, the services of the platform and the vcenter VM on an ESX host. We suspended because it took all day to go upward.

Once I woke up all the parts (sql server, esx vm, server platform & vcenter) in virtualization nested, I created my data center, then Cluster then added the ESX host.

The hosts added properly, no error. Then I remembered when I installed ESX inside a virtual machine, I am angry that the iso, I had the habit of HP does not work in my VM nested due to virtualized hardware.

Then a fire came into my head. We will rebuild all of the physical cluster but NOT use the CV provided the iso file but use VMware provided iso file "VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 6.0.0 - 2159203.x86_64.iso".

I did it today. I have rebuilt all hosts with the provided iso file VMware ESX...

Spun SQL Server vCenter, service platform, all VM VM VM you need. My AD & DNS VM are on another server, so he has been upwards all the time.

Connected to the web interface (yuck!).

    Created my data center...

    Created my Cluster...

    Add all my Cluster hosts.

    All of this worked!

Therefore, if you encounter the same problem, I'm plan to generate your with the provided iso file VMware ESX hosts and try it. In my case, the provided HP iso file didn't work properly for me.

I also downloaded the iso file of HP 2 other times to make sure and do a validation test and it did the same thing.

  • Unexpected events of the virtualized Windows Cluster Failover?

I'm running into a problem where I see the unexpected events of failover on a cluster failover of Server 2008 running on four hosts ESXi 4.1.  ESXi hosts themselves are not grouped.  Each ESXi host running a single Server 2008 VM.  Each virtual machine has the latest version of VMware tools installed.

The problem is that, once every two days or more, one of the nodes in the Windows cluster release out of the cluster without apparent reason, which triggered a failover event.  So far we have not identified any root cause in any component of our infrastructure (eg. network switches etc.).  The VM guest that always falls out of the cluster during these unexpected failovers joined the cluster after a few minutes or more.  In the event of failure, the virtual machine that injects seems quite good other than the event of failure of the cluster (for example, the virtual machine does not drop even pings).  In addition, it is always a different VM that we see this problem with, it is not always the same.

Any ideas on what could cause this problem?  The thesis that we have currently is that there could be some problems with the cluster questions missed by Windows during the card NETWORK active/active configuration that we have on the vSwitches on the back-end.  We plan to change that active/passive.  VMware's recommendations one way or another?

I already read the article below as well as VMware MSCS on vSphere 4.1 guide, but none of them seem to deal specifically with underlying vSwitch configuration.  Any input on that?  Ideas on the thing we should look at?  Thanks for the help!

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1002890

    Ahh, so that's another problem.

In the guide 4.1 MSCS, 'section, vSphere MSCS Setup Limitations limitation', he States:

With native multipathing (NMP), clustering is not taken in charge when the strategy of path is set to round robin.

  • Migrating from 5.0.0 free ESXi / ESX 4.1.0 a local database to bought ESXi 4.1.0 with SAN

We currently have four host servers.  Two host servers are the free version of VMware ESXi 5.0.0 and ESX 4.1.0.  I have two hosts in a cluster, obviously with the version under license and running VMWare VCenter ESXi 4.1.0 running.

All of these guests have all (vmdk files etc.) data stored locally on the host servers.  I'll be migrating to a new SAN and buy under license of VMware.

I need to move the virtual hosts free version VMware servers (5.0.0 ESXi / ESX 4.1.0) to the cluster host ESXi 4.1.0 under license.  I can export the folder containing all the files and import it on the cluster license.  Once records are there, how can I activate the servers of records and pull up?

I have to get off these hosts old existing virtual servers on the new servers which we you place your order.

In this case I the new environment configuration and then for example use VMware Converter to migrate (V2V, with the virtual machine is turned off) the virtual machine of the former hosts in the vCenter Server environment allowing you to select the target storage.

  • Help with a conversion from an ESX 4.0 host ESXi4.1

    Hi all

I'm new to VMware. I was given a task to virtualize infrastructure. I bought 3 dell 610's with 64 GB of ram and an equallogic SAN 6000. I have all three new hosts and the SAN in collaboration with a few virtual machines running in it as it is. I have the advanced VMware license. I also have VMCenter installed and working.

What I need help on is the following:

I have a computer host running ESX 4.0 with a local storage with exchange 2003 and windows 2008 r2 server x 64 running on it. How can I move the two virtual machines to the SAN, and then upgrade to the host ESX to ESXi 4.1?

    Kind regards

    CG

    Hello

As Scott says, you simply add the host in vCenter Server and connect the ESX to the San.  Then you can migrate your VMS (virtual machines must be turned off) from the existing to the new host.

If for some reason you cannot connect the host to the SAN, then you can try with vCenter Converter to do a V2V conversion to migrate your virtual machines.

Finally, there is no way to upgrade from ESX to ESXi, so you need to do a clean install of ESXi on your existing host.

    Best wishes / Saludos

  • Actually an ESX cluster with different times may have problems?

    Hello

Recently, I hired a company to install a cluster EXES 3.5.

After leaving, I discovered that the two machines, ESX1 and ESX2 have hours different (about 12 hours difference). The company said that it is impossible that the two machines have the same time, because I don't have a time server on the LAN.

I am facing many problems with the cluster.

Some of the machine should ocupy 100 GB and 200 GB are using (I have no pictures of this machines)

When my VM SAP jumps from ESX1 to ESX2 services down

The VCB does not detect the majority of virtual machines and I can't see them on BE 12

The problem of cluster could be related?

    Thanks in advance,

    Luis Estevens

You really do need get guests in sync. As has already been noted SAP (or any database system) will not be as if all of a sudden she is 12 hours in the future or the past.

If you do not have an internal time server (there are a couple of freeware NTP servers that run on Windows) you can use an external time source. I use pool.ntp.org (http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/use.html) it is a great service they have around l 'Robing' between the time sources. For this he both ESX hosts should be able to make outbound connections to port 123 (NTP) UDP.

  • Install ESXi/ESX/Vsphere on a single isolated standalone workstation

In the hardware compatibility list, I noticed that the HP Z840 workstation is compatible with ESXi/ESX/Vsphere. In fact, the HP Z840 is the only HP computer that is not a server and still included in this list of compatibility.

For the moment, I have a unique stand-alone HP Z820 workstation.

If I decide to upgrade to a new computer HP Z840 independent, I will be able to install, configure and use ESXi/ESX/Vsphere on it and install top one, two or more systems of guest OS designed to run simultaneously, without having to connect this workstation Z840 even temporarily on another computer, separate console or network?

There are two types of virtualization-

    1 bare Metal virtualization-

ESXi is a virtualization software, have you install directly on the physical server from bare metal hardware. ESXi is very compact.

Then to manage ESXi host and create the virtual machine on ESXi host, you need a system more to run vSphere Client or use client Host.

ESXi directly access physical resources, which improve the performance of virtual machines.

    2 hosted virtualization-

VMware workstation is a hosted type virtualization software, install you it on any system Windows or Linux and then create virtual machine on it.

Windows underlying system provides material resources to virtual machines created in workstation that's why you get no good performance of the VM as compare to ESXi

Today VMware workstation 12 perform as well, if you simply create VMS to test or purpose LAB VMware workstation will also work.

For good performance, then you must ESXi host at least a Client system to manage ESXi and VMs.

    Thank you

  • VCenter Server first to 5.5.0U3b update and later update of VMware ESXi ESX / will I have problems?

    Hello

A vCenter Server Version 5.5.0U3b should be able to manage vSphere Host Version 5.5.0 GA, right?

The vCenter Server 5.5 update 3 b can manage VMware ESXi ESX release GA to 5.5 5.5 update 3 b, take a look: VMware product interoperability Matrices

BUT, according to the interoperability matrices and vCenter Server 5.5 update 3 release notes, VMware strongly recommends you upgrade your hosts to 5.5 update 3 b, see:

    What's new

    • Update Support for the SSLv3 Protocol is disabled by default
Note: In your vSphere environment, you must update vCenter Server vCenter Server 5.5 update 3 b before the update to 5.5 ESXi ESXi update 3 b. vCenter Server will not be able to manage 3B ESXi 5.5 update, if you update ESXi before update vCenter Server to version 5.5 update 3 b. For more information about the sequence in which vSphere environments must be updated, see KB 2057795.
    • VMware strongly recommends you update ESXi hosts to ESXi 5.5 update 3 b management of vCenter Server 5.5 updated 3B.
VMware does not recommend the reactivation of SSLv3 because of the vulnerability of POODLE. If all you must enable SSLv3, you must activate the SSLv3 Protocol for all components. For more information, see

    VMware KB: Multi-homing on ESXi/ESX

My network team has provided me with a new direction and a new segment of vmotion. These segments are detailed on 10.132.99.xx. The two 27 subnets. 255.255.255.224

    VLAN 2 - 10.132.99.0/27 > = 10.132.99.1 - 10.132.99.30

    VLAN 3 - 10.132.99.32/27 > = 10.132.99.33 - 10.132.99.62

In this configuration, multiple kbase article will always apply? As I'm ready this article is that the vmkernel will not be able to distinguish between the two because they are on the same segment, even if the network team considers different subnets.

I have not tried myself yet, but I'm sure that your network team is correct. With applied appropriate network mask, you are actually separating the routing table of the circulation in two IP subnets, which you should also visit the ESXi host.

  • Custom list VIB in ESX 4.1 hosts?

  • Upgrading memory on ESX 3.5 hosts

    Hi all

We are trying to upgrade the memory of our esx 3.5 hosts.  If we properly close the guests, then we properly stop the host, will be the guests of vmotion.  According to me, they won't, but I was curious to know if it is happen.

If the guests are turned off, then stop you hosts, there is no HA/DRS.  All guests will stay in an engine out of State until the ESX host come back online.

If you have vCenter with vMotion/DRS, you can do a rolling upgrade.  vMotion all guests to another host in the cluster, put vacuum host in maintenance mode, it off, add RAM, if power return, exit maintenance mode.  Rinse and repeat.
