  In the hardware compatibility list, I noticed that the HP Z840 workstation is compatible with ESXi/ESX/Vsphere. In fact, the HP Z840 is the only HP computer that is not a server and still included in this list of compatibility.

  There are two types of virtualization-

  1 bare Metal virtualization-

  ESXi is a virtualization software, have you install directly on the physical server from bare metal hardware. ESXi is very compact.

  Then to manage ESXi host and create the virtual machine on ESXi host, you need a system more to run vSphere Client or use client Host.

  ESXi directly access physical resources, which improve the performance of virtual machines.

  2 hosted virtualization-

  VMware workstation is a hosted type virtualization software, install you it on any system Windows or Linux and then create virtual machine on it.

  Windows underlying system provides material resources to virtual machines created in workstation that's why you get no good performance of the VM as compare to ESXi

  Today VMware workstation 12 perform as well, if you simply create VMS to test or purpose LAB VMware workstation will also work.

  For good performance, then you must ESXi host at least a Client system to manage ESXi and VMs.

• Migrating from 5.0.0 free ESXi / ESX 4.1.0 a local database to bought ESXi 4.1.0 with SAN

  We currently have four host servers.  Two host servers are the free version of VMware ESXi 5.0.0 and ESX 4.1.0.  I have two hosts in a cluster, obviously with the version under license and running VMWare VCenter ESXi 4.1.0 running.

  All of these guests have all (vmdk files etc.) data stored locally on the host servers.  I'll be migrating to a new SAN and buy under license of VMware.

  I need to move the virtual hosts free version VMware servers (5.0.0 ESXi / ESX 4.1.0) to the cluster host ESXi 4.1.0 under license.  I can export the folder containing all the files and import it on the cluster license.  Once records are there, how can I activate the servers of records and pull up?

  I have to get off these hosts old existing virtual servers on the new servers which we you place your order.

  In this case I the new environment configuration and then for example use VMware Converter to migrate (V2V, with the virtual machine is turned off) the virtual machine of the former hosts in the vCenter Server environment allowing you to select the target storage.

• ESXi / ESX and DAS

  Hi, I've been long VMWare Workstation and VMWare Server user, but now that ESXi is free, I plan to spend to ESXi/ESX, but need some advice on the implementation on the road.

  I'm running x 64 W2K8, VMWare Server 2.0 with a few virtual machines, and the server also provides access to up to 8 x 750 GB disks file sharing in a RAID6 configuration.

  I would like some tips and knowledge if it is advisable, for ESX/ESXi on the box, W2K8 run in a virtual machine and access this VM W2K8 RAID6 array so that it can continue to provide file sharing services?

  As mentioned, RDM could be a solution to allow the virtual machine to access the raw device, but I don't think that get it all the benefits. Since you are using local storage, a VMFS extra is probably your best shot. What is your subject concers that performance?

  One solution would be to check the value of Config.Product.Name for the given hostsystems, as:

  If the name of the product is equal to "VMware ESX", then you can do the actions that you want to this host.

  I'm moving a virtual machine in ESX farm for a machine of ESXi.  I copied the files on the data store in the ESXi box, but I can't find a way to get the VM in the inventory.  Any help would be great.  Thank you.

  Is there a VMware ESX 3.5 as a VMware ESXi 3.5 aswell? What is the difference? I thought VMware ESX ended with version 3.0, replaced by VMware ESXi 3.5 and later versions?

  If I look at the operating systems supported for the Adaptec RAID 3405 controller I find "VMware ESX Server 3.5"...

  ESXi and replace DO NOT ESX.  The reason why I gave you the comparison is because you can see what each call to savings.

  ESXi, is short, ESX less the service console.  Both are Virtualization platforms.

  I recently made some changes to my VMware Lab.

  I'm under vCenter 5.1 with several hosts of ESXi 5.1.  My vCenter ran on one server ESXi 5.1 until I recently migrated there in a window of Windows 8 running VMware Workstation 9.   The vCenter is running normally and I am able to add hosts in stock, but they disconnect after approximately 60 to 90 seconds.  I believe that this issue is that the heart beats that are sent by the host do not reach the vCenter (port 902), I think that it is similar to the issue discussed in the following KB:http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1029919

  Here are my questions:

  1. the article describes download wireshark and run scripts.  Is there an easier away from do?  I'm literally just checking this single port of the ESXi host, there is no equivalent for telnet from an ESXi host?

  2 VMware Workstation 9 block ports or run its own firewall any?  Since this vCenter worked perfectly when running on the host ESXi 5.1 we know this isn't a firewall on the virtual computer problem, I have also checked the Windows 8 machine running VMware workstation and have verified that the windows firewall is disabled.  Windows firewall is not the issue.

• Multiple connections to ESX

  I'm creating an application web multi-threaded, the job of managing the work of automation running on an ESX Server. When 'jobs' was presented, the system manages execution of each task on a VMWare ESX server image. I use the wrapper "Vestris.VMWareLib" of dblock in c# to perform these actions.

  However, I have some problems when I try to connect to ESX. If I try a number of connections to ESX (like when the 3 jobs carried out to run) at the same exact time in my application, I get the error:

  Vestris.VMWareLib.VMWareException: The handle is not a valid object of VIX

  I've then preceded to write a simple c# console application make 5 simultaneous connections to ESX, but had no problem with these. I have attached to this example.

  I have some questions if I do a number of connections to ESX at the same time? What is an idea that I have to "shift" for connections by a couple of seconds?

  I asked the same question several times on this forum (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/214215) and I'm not the only one. I tried other channels in VMWare and I have nothing but radio silence.

  Llevo tiempo dandole vueltas a este tema pero no be por donde cojerlo...

  Me gustaria develop alguna, pequeña application o utility powershell sirviendome o las clases specific that has vmware para some lenguajes.

  Sincermante, el lenguaje, ahora mismo controlled mejor're Visual Basic .net, pero por lo as he read en las development communities, are best using c#.

  Como no quiero meter pata, prefiero tener las things well claras ante from start.

  A worm if me podeis orientar sober esto. Use lenguaje that, como utilizarlo conjuntamente con powershell y demas...
