Bug in Icon Editor?

I just changed a VI in LV 2012 yesterday and by modifying its icon.  I came across some behaviors bizarre I would consider a bug.

I searched the forums and didn't find being mentioned.  I tried using LV 2013 today and had the same behavior.  I have yet to try older versions.

See the attached VI.

In icon editor, I made an invisible layer.  I didn't delete it yet, but as I didn't see it while I was creating a new layer on top.

I hit OK and the icon was saved in the VI.  He appeared just as I wanted in terms of which layers I could see and I turned off.

I edited the new icon to make a small change and click OK.

The icon now displays the layer that I turned off!

I edited again, he is off, press the OK button, and it was as if I wanted to.

Yet once published and found the visibility has been enabled for all layers when this icon is loaded back in the editor.

It is certainly unexpected and undesirable behavior.  I expect that the layers that I turned off to stay off when I reopen it icon editor.

Two VI is attached.  The demo I created in 2013 LV.  And saved to LV8.0 so that it can be tested in older versions.  I know that for a VI and icon created in LV2012 gave me the same unexpected behavior.

CAR 407147 discussed in this thread has been corrected in LabVIEW 2014.  For a more complete list of bugs fixed in LabVIEW 2014, see 2014 LabVIEW bugfixes. You can download a copy of LabVIEW 2014 evaluation at http://www.ni.com/trylabview/ or if you have a previous version of LabVIEW installed and an active subscription to SSP, you will be able to download the latest version of LabVIEW through NI Update Service.

  • LabVIEW2009: How to replace the new Icon Editor with old?

    Ladies and gentlemen,

I really don't like the new icon introduced in LabVIEW 2009 Editor:

It was tried to "Photoshop shipped" with a lot of features:

But I don't like it really, because:

-It has opened EVERY time on the RIGHT monitor (I have three monitors and main monitor in the middle)

-It takes a lot of time to launch (former editor of icon start momentally)

d ' usability point of view - it was wrong to place tools on the right side. Often, they are on the left side (and only in the old icons, but also in imageprocessing Editor software like Adobe Photoshop). Also front of interface design user Panel... hmmm... This can be better...

-some bugs or modified features (for example - KING to select, then press the button - nothing happened)

    etc...

Is it possible to replace it with an old man:

Ideal solution will be - switch just between two editors (some features introduced are not so bad).

    Thanks in advance,

    Andrey.

Go to \Resource\Plugins and rename lv_icon.vi. It is a plugin that is called when you call icon editor, and if it isn't there, LV is the Editor (at least for now. I don't know how many versions to come, they will keep the code).

Note that the editor is open source, so you can enter and change what you want (or save you time and use the changes others did, as the thread of PJM here. You can also watch other discussions in this group).

  • Icon editor - colors

    Hi all

Why the colors are used in the icon editor not always those included in the Subvi icon?

This problem seems to occur mainly for light colors.

    Look at the example below:

The color (in the icon editor) is not the same as the color of the icon of VI.

Is this a bug or an expected behavior?

This seems to be indicated in the icon editor dialog box help.

  • Partial cure for the problem of model Icon Editor

I'm driven crazy by models Icon Editor behavior (which I love and use all the time).  What happens is I'll open a project, start to make icons with my set of templates (all saved in LabVIEW Data\Icon Templates\VI\BS icons) and especially if I've included copies of screws that have been developed, say, two years ago and copied from another file on the disk, will notice two copies of the model , with the second copy often in... part \VI\3rd.  Now, these are clearly my models, just saved in the "wrong" place.

Get rid of these models in doubles was very difficult - I just spent half an hour doing it.  You delete all the files in the 3rd part, open the icon editor and see only one copy, then start doing things and Bingo!, the model appears in the model list in the Icon Editor, but also the file reappears in the 3rd party folder.  What should do?

So I did a search on the Web, found a fool named "Bob Schor", which has asked about it in 2011 (on this Forum, of all places!), got a few suggestions, but does not solve the problem.  So I tried something else.

I noticed that there is a lot of. BIN files stored in the model icon folders, with file names that appear to reference different versions of LabVIEW (e.g. Templates.15.0f2.bin).  On a lark, I deleted this file, deleted the folder of 3rd party model, LabVIEW has reopened, reopened the icon editor, and (he said, I hope) the problem seems to be solved.  There is no more 3rd-party file appearing in the model list, icons are not really, it can't be, maybe if I killed the evil Dragon.  I'll let it rest for a week and if it still seems to work, will return and mark this as a 'Solution '.  Comments and other ideas welcome.

    Bob Schor

Is there a step I missed, but just found.  In the icon editor itself, there is a setting to know where (by default) record the models he finds inside a VI already, but are not in the calibre of icon file.  This setting is under Tools, icon editor properties.  In the 'Model' category, you should disable "Save third icon templates" which, like a default value of \Icon Templates\3rd, part.

I am currently testing (on several machines, all configured slightly differently), these ideas and so far it seems to work.  I had a small panic today when the '3rd party folder' with additional copies of some of my models began to appear that I opened the existing screws, but turning the switch "Record the icon of third-party models" seemed to solve this problem.  I'm almost ready to mark this (and earlier versions) post as a Solution...

  • LV 2009 Icon Editor turned to the previous Version

    Hello!

I want to ask you if someone has experience strange behavior of "ICON EDITOR". When I opened my editor-in-Chief, it showed up about a half second or so away and violllllla! the former editor-in-Chief came. Really strange because I just used it earlier today... If anyone knows how to bring it back please please post the "how-to".

    Thanks in advance!

Check the LabVIEW data folder in 'My Documents'. If it is set to read-only, icon editor does not work.

Usually, it's a sign for him, when the editor of icons appears for a brief moment.

IE is open source. If the LabVIEW data folder is not write protected, go to lv_icon.vi of 2009\resource\plugins\ of LabVIEW and check if IE is executable at all.

    Thank you

    Tom

  • Polymorphic icon editor - returns to the old editor

    LabVIEW 2010 SP1

I have a set of polymorphic screws I have in a library of Instrument project into the Public folder.

When I try to change the icon, then select a glyph to slide in the LabVIEW icon field returns to the old editor!

It's really slow my productivity.  Is there a way to fix this?

This also happens to the non-polymorphic screw Icon Editor.

    Sam Merci for your support!

I solved the problem, I debugged the '... \LabVIEW 2014\resource\plugins\lv_icon.VI ' and found that the error was generated when accessing some files in the folder of the administrator. It seems to be permission/security problem. Now I'm running the LabVIEW as an administrator and it works correctly.

    Thanks again Sam.

  • Icon editor crash

I'm using LabVIEW 2015 64-bit. Whenever I double click on an icon to edit the icon editor flashes for a moment, then seems to crash and is replaced by former editor icons years ago. Everything else seems to work very well.

I've updated my version of LabVIEW yesterday to see if that fixed it, but it still happens.

Does anyone know why does not the icon editor, or how can I make it work?

Have you installed or removed something? Whatever this is updated? Unexplained crash (BSOD)?

Have you tried repairing your installation of LabVIEW?

  • LabVIEW 2010 icon editor - why is not white white

OK, so I'm creating a LV 2010 icon.

    I want a white background.

So, I choose the white color from the palette.  But is not quite like (a bit darker than white) white.

so, I'm going to get a custom color and set it to 255/255/255 (R/G/B).  Add to my custom colors.  go top quickly with the mouse and see that it is actually 255/255/255.

Then I go back to the icon actually edit and make sure that my choice of color (foreground/background) is times WHITE (255, 255, 255).

    I draw a box.

    The box is not white!

    the box is drawn with 246/246/246 colors (R, G, B) 255/255/255 not!

Will create a different color custom 254/255/255.

    Draw the area again.

Box is white, but it's actually 255/255/254 (what you expect to get).  Close enough for me to use, so I can do my icons, but I just need to remember not to try to actually set the color to 255/255/255 - actually use something so is little different.

Better I can understand - if you hover over a transparent section, you see the color go to 255/255/255, so LV must use 255/255/255 as transparent.  But then, he says that color is 255/255/255 and it is not, it is transparent.  Thus, the color should be indicated as T/T/T, so I need to know the special 255/255/255 = transparent magic decoder to see if a single pixel is transparent or not.

End of the trip and the ventilation, then the real question:

What is special about to take 255/255/255 white and convert to 246/246/246 instead of something closer as 254/254/254?

Icon editor think he did you a favor, and he's really given probably uses the method (perhaps outdated) LV for transparency on the comic.  By design, a 'white' outside a BD (ie. icon) object is considered as transparent and do not form part of the object insofar as clicking on are worried.  I also discovered the hard way that 'white', one hears all pure gray (R = G = B) with R, G, B 246 >.  Tweaking of the value of B is a way to avoid this (as you discovered).

You can get very interesting effects when LV think than your Subvi everything is transparent.

  • Extremely slow LabVIEW 2010 icon editor

Working on a project of medium size in LabVIEW 2010.  Out of the blue icon editor is slowing down.  So slow that type in a character of text takes 20 seconds.  After closing, the editor he is about 3 to 5 second rule on everything that I do in LabVIEW.

LabVIEW games restart things back to normal, until I open the icon editor.  No results of Subvi opening in this problem.  And this happens in any project or even if no project is open, and I'm trying to change the icon in a Subvi Untitled 1.

Anyone else seen this behavior.  I really want to re - install LabVIEW 2010.

    Thank you

I've not seen this behavior, and I really have no idea what could be the problem. As a solution, we can 'turn off' icon editor and force LabVIEW to use the old classic that is causing the problem to go, in my opinion. To do this, rename the following lv_icon.bak:

    [2010]\resource\plugins\lv_icon.vi LabVIEW

This will completely ignore the code from the editor of icon and go directly to the editor of classic icons. You will lose a lot of the new functionality of the icon editor, but I'm guessing that this will make the downturn go away.

  • Frustrations of glyph of the Icon Editor

This started happening only today when I go to change the icons of my screws I click on the glyphs tab and go to choose a glyph. However, when I click on the glyph (favorite new Word) it sends me to an another icon editor in which he sent me here. I think I have an option enabled, causing my clicking the glyph to not be in his 'Default' mode. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    Thank you!

Its a known issue.  LabVIEW to restart and it should dissipate.  If this does not work you probably moved the xml file and or zip you to synchronize the glyphs to the art of the icon library.  Put them back where they were, and you'll be golden.

I've never used icon editor again in the application menu builder (when I create a new build in the Project Explorer).

Use IcoFX. It's free online and you can download it. Then use this program to convert your image into an icon file.
