Building a better progress bar

Hi all!

One of the most common items of feedback that we've seen is the lack of a progress bar to inform the student part of the presentation that remains. Of course, there is a bar when the Viewer is in view 'tab', but 'time remaining' listed there is usually WAY off if you let students advance through the presentation at their own pace. We set out to make a progress bar autonomous in Flash that could be placed in any PPT presentation and provide the student with a simple indication of to what extent this time they are. Here's how to make one yourself:

First of all, your course module must have at least two frames. This is because your module will read data from the "viewer.swf" application which shows the Breeze presentation, and that information are apparently not read until all actions on the frame, one of each present module are made. If the ActionScript to frame 1 of our module is simply:

this.gotoAndStop (2);

Then, we are showing the progression of how long is a bar - namely, changing the _width of a movieclip instance property. Our movieclip in the library just a green rectangle, and our instance of which is named progress_mc, with a default width of 285 pixels. Make sure that the bar is aligned on the left and the center of the stage in the movieclip in your library, so that it will grow and reduce properly.

Now that the bar is set up and ready to handle, here's the code that we placed on the frame 2:

var mySlideNumber = _root.m_contentView.m_currentSlide.indexInTOC + 1;
var myLastSlide = _root.m_viewerController.m_slides.length;
var myIncrement = 285 / myLastSlide; 285 pixels is the default width of the movieclip instance

progress_mc._width = (myIncrement * mySlideNumber);

_root.m_sidebarView.m_elapsedBar._visible = false; This hides the incorrect bar "time remaining".

.. .and that's all it took! Of course, than we do now is somewhat whimsical in terms of design and size to measure for our models, but the code is virtually identical. I can give the module 'progress bar.swf' to anyone to be included in their PPT slides, and it will work perfectly when they compile their Breeze presentation. Only complaint is that you have to stick one on each slide (you want some indication on), rather than put one on the slide master. But, it's always MUCH easier than craft of the progress bars for each presentation.

    I don't think it's a problem of FF because it also happens when I use IE 10, but I always get better help than Youtube or IE.

    When I watch a video on Youtube the guard progress bar appearing and disappearing every few seconds if you move the mouse. I tried to move the mouse in an area off the screen and turn it off (the mouse, it's a Microsoft 3500 wireless) but that made no difference, it just guard appearing and disappearing every few seconds.

    It does exactly the same thing if I use IE10, so I don't think it's an add-on to FF or app. I never use IE10 so I don't have a bunch of applications loaded on it.

    Other sites video don't do this then I think it's a problem of Yotube. He just started to arrive two days ago. Does anyone else have this problem? Or a solution?

    Well I don't know if it will work or not. When I'm went on Youtube to try your suggestion the problem had resolved itself!

  • Stuck on Start Up Apple screen logo with 50% progress bar, tried everything. Help, please!

    Hello world. I'd appreciate it really all the advice that you can offer me to help me fix my laptop. I have a mid-2010 Pro 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo Macbook running OS X Yosemite. A year ago, he started trolling a lot, so replaced the HDD with a Samsung 850 EVO 120 GB SSD internal 2.5 inch SATA III. He works much better since.

    A few days ago, I bought a Google Chromecast and had set up with my MBP. Subsequently, he began trolling and I noticed there are apps in the Launchpad, that I had never downloaded (reader of Google, Gmail, Youtube, etc.). I could not remove these applications or drag them to the trash. Concerned, I decided to back up my files on a USB key and re - install the OS X.

    However, during the priming of the MBP, it is stuck on the Apple logo screen, with the bar never go beyond 50%. (Photo: http://postimg.org/image/66qh6x633/)

    What I tried:

    PHASE 1 (Before reformatting)

    -Safe Mode: Button power button and shift held down. Hit or miss, worked 1-2 times, but when I reboot, is again stuck at the Apple logo.

    -Reinstall OS X: CMD + R; After 15-20 minutes get to OS X utility screen; Reinstalled OS X Yosemite; 7 hours to reinstall - but when the mbp restarts to complete the installation, it is stuck at the Apple logo again.

    -Reformatting: CMD + R; 15-20 minutes get to OS X utility screen (several reboots to work); Select repair for all discs/drives (Samsung SSD, HD Recovery). Exit said that both are very good; Select clear to HD recovery. When this was done, I tried to reinstall OS X Yosemite, but the MBP shuts down suddenly. When I turned on it again, it is returned to be stuck on the loading screen Apple logo. Attempt to restart after 15 +, but same result every time.

    PHASE 2 (After reformatting).

    -Power-> CMD + R = blocked screen Apple logo with 50% progress bar

    -Power-> Option = shows 2 player and free Wi - Fi area (Pic: http://postimg.org/image/58qi2j1vl/); Have you tried all the combinations, but regardless, always gets stuck at the screen of the Apple logo to 50% complete, after an hour, I suddenly hear ' to use English as the main language... ". ", but the screen is still stuck. I left it on 36 hours once and nothing has changed

    -Power-> Shift = error (Pic: http://postimg.org/image/tahklsvy1/); Keep restarting or shows some other error (Pic: http://postimg.org/image/thstc6b59/) and restart. Never crosses.

    Tried other things:

    -Reset PRAM: When restarting MBP, is stuck at the Apple logo screen, 50% progress bar

    -Reset SMC: Stuck on the Apple logo screen for a long time and then the screen turns off, but the laptop is still on. When I press Caps Lock, the indicator light lights up. Also, after some time, I again hear "to use English as...". "even if the screen is off. No matter what I press, it does not wake up to the screen.

    Note:

    -The bottom of the laptop feels hot (maybe), but I do not hear the drive in motion.

    I am trying to save my mbp because I can't get a new one for a few months. Any advice/help is greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!!!

    P.S.: I only am not too computer savvy, please use everyday words words/non-tech, when possible, thank you!

    Remove the SSD and install it in a closed Chamber.  Connect it to the MBP via USB.  It will start?

    Ciao.

  • Global variable in the progress bar

    I have an existing labview code that consists of a main vi, which is the GUI user, and several (about 70) under vi. I am trying to add a progress bar on the screen before (user GUI) which will be immediately after it hits certain sections of code. I write this using a global variable to store the value of the status and any attempt in the main on-screen progress bar after each increment. Is there a way to link the main progress bar value to the global variable so that it updates as soon as the value is incremented? The problem that I am facing is that when I update the global variable in a Subvi, the progress bar takes the value of the Sub - VI is finished, all the numbers to jump between the two. I know it's because I do not correctly write to the progress bar, but I don't know how to do. If this isn't a good method, are there any suggestions?

    For example:

    SubVi2 SubVi1 Vi main

    (1-4)                (5-8)             (8-12)

    Progress bar: 1 2 3 4 8 12

    (I tried the Progress Bar Library OR offer, but I need a progress bar on the front panel, not a sound upward, so I can debug for code execution)

    Thank you - Adam

    I would go with a motor of Action update the progress bar VIA referance Server vi.  Here is an example of the use of a side effect I have to make this kind of progress bar.

    If you have not read Ben nugget of action engine, it should be mandatory, you can find here

    By building a "resource module" (a special AE that keeps a referance to the resource to act on) after initializint EI, you can call any 'method' on the resorce from anywhere in the instance of the application.  These babys really allow you to do interesting things to the GUI from around where the real action takes place.

  • Need help with advanced actions progress bar

    I need a guru of the advanced Actions! Someone at - he needed a challenge?

    I'm trying to recreate this tip action: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2011/10/show-me-the-progress-bar.html show me the progress bar! By Dr. jerome Pooja

    I thought I got it and did this correctly, but when I try to use TI - nothing happens. (that is, I click on the box click to select an option, and nothing happens). I have Dr. Jaisingh tweeted a few times but received no response.

    Someone of you are willing to take a look at my file to see where I have gone wrong? Once I get that worked, I'd be happy to share the file to all who love her.

    As a bonus question: I would like to place this interaction in the middle of a module - but maybe that's a problem as the progress bar is set to show the rest of the project. Someone at - it a way to avoid this?

    Big thanks in advance!

    OK, think I found it, even after blogging about it but this post has not been read that much. In chronological order, I'll tell what I did.

    First of all, I cursed the lack of discipline, labelling, sorry, but said that Pooja on this subject more than once, why different labels for the objects used in the source PSD file, it is more difficult to read and analyze.

    All the 'cells' had in Fade transitions / Fade out. If you set to display for the rest of the project, these transitions and possibly apply effects will repeat on each slide where these objects are visible! So I started with the deactivation of these transitions.

    As Andy pointed out, and I've confirmed: stock Standard Advanced have a Continue statement. If I got it correctly, and the user can choose only once, even a go to the next slide would be better.

    That I started to suspect the use of the master slide. There is a partially transparent image on this slide model. This is the blog that I mentioned first:

    Order of the stack and master slides

    My solution is to merge the partially transparent image with the background on the slide master.

  • Progress bar to complete the work on a slide show

    Hey people,

    Here's my idea:

    In current history as I build the user must complete 4 tasks from a given slide, let's call it 'A' slide.  Each task is essentially a button that will take the user to another slide, activity, and then return the user to slide "A".  On the trip back to 'A' button on which they clicked on will be disabled so that they are not yet of this activity.  That activities are completed, I want to have a progress bar at the bottom of the screen to show the user how far this time upward they are.  Once the progress bar is full, it will be a key to the next part of the story.

    Here's what I already know:

    I can run the advanced top 1.  Disable the buttons full

    2 set the variables that become a progress bar button (hide the previous bar and activate / display button)

    Here is where I get lost:

    I think I need to put up and/or logic to show variables.  In my head, making the progress bar '25% complete' show would have such as logic below.  Note: all variables are set to 0 by default, the term defines variables to 1.

    IF (Variable1) <>0 OR

    <>(Variable2) 0 OR

    <>(Variable3) 0 OR

    <>(Variable4) 0 OR

    SEE the ProgressBar25

    But how I'd get 50% progress bar to display everything by hiding the progress bar of 25%?  It would be something like:

    IF (Variable1) <>0 AND (Variable2) <>0 OR

    (Variable1) <>0 AND (Variable3) <>0 OR

    (Variable1) <>0 AND (Variable4) <>0 OR

    (Variable2) <>0 AND (Variable3) <>0 OR

    (Variable2) <>0 AND (Variable4) <>0 OR

    (Variable3 <>0 AND (Variable4) <>0 OR)

    SEE the ProgressBar50

    Hide ProgressBar25

    All conditional statements must be in the same action so that when the user enters the slide, he would hide / disable / view the corrent information?  I am that overthinking and missed an easier way to do this?

    Thank you

    Cody

    Such a complex condition will be not functional... experience with complex conditional actions.

    Is it really necessary to hide the previous progress bars? Are they in the same place and you stack them from 25% at the bottom and 100% on top, each second bar cover up previous No., will have to hide.

    Tried to get out, but my intuition says that to add an additional variable, sort of a v_counter counter that keeps the number of tasks has been completed. Then, create an action of condtional with several decisions:

    IF v_counter = 1 see the ProgressBar25

    IF v_counter = 2 see the ProgressBar50

    IF v_counter = 3 see the ProgressBar75

    IF v_counter = 4 see the ProgressBar100

    Sorry, always try to simplify

  • You attempt to add the audio progress bar

    Hello

    I would like to add a progress bar to my Player audio flash.

    At the moment you press a button, a certain sound load and then plays.

    Here is the part of the code:

    function playSong(e:Event):void {}
    If {(my_channel)
    my_channel. Stop();
    }
    var myURL = ("mysong.mp3");
    my_sound = new Sound();
    my_sound. Load (new URLRequest (myURL));
    my_channel = my_sound.play ();
    }

    In order to build a progress bar, I wanted to know the length or duration of the sound, but I keep getting some error messages or 0s in return

    trace (my_sound.duration);

    tells me that the duration is a property not defined

    trace (my_sound.length);

    trace (my_sound.position);

    trace (my_sound.bytesTotal);

    trace (my_sound.bytesLoaded);

    all give me in return a 0

    No idea why? Why can't I access my sound properties?

    I would also be very grateful for any other suggestions on how to add a progress bar. I tried a number of Web sites, but most of the samples are AS2 code...

    Thank you

    Julie

    After loading is completed, check the length of your sound.

  • Progress bar get about 60% and stuck

    Hello

    I had difficulties with the last update of El Capitan - my imac will not re-start and could get stuck on the spinning wheel. I could turn it off with the power switch and turn it back on w/out the update and it works great except for chrome.

    Today I was asked to restart the update and I thought I'd give it a try. This time, he stops normally and looked like it will re-start! While she has been reset the progress bar froze on the gray apple screen and then the screen started to Flash. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Use the Combo Update 10.11.6:

    Apple - Support - downloads

    The Combo update is a complete installation, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update, so you have to overwrite all files are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have previously applied. All your data and settings must be kept, but that said, you should always have a backup.

  • Where the dialogue progress bar copy

    Hello

    I tried to copy something big (about 6 GB) from one folder to another folder to an external HARD drive. How is he had no copy automatically appeared in the Yosemite progress bar to display the status of the copy.

    How can I get the dcopy progress bar dialog to appear (as he did in Yosemite)?

    Thank you

    Not sure I understand the question. If you move a file from one folder to another folder on the same drive, there is no need of a progress bar. It would be just to change the path of the file.

    Script editor 2.7 (176)

    2.4 AppleScript

    I'm trying to use CocoaDialog with AppleScript to view and update a progress bar. However, I can't know exactly how to invoke a progress in AppleScript bar. I could not even open a window for future progress bar, and still less of the update.

    Please could someone advise me as to what AppleScript code should I put in the simple loop example below to create a progress bar CocoaDialog and running.

    Thank you very much

    Andrew.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    cocoaDialogFilePath the value "/ Applications/CocoaDialog.app/Contents/MacOS/CocoaDialog".

    the value of myText to form quotes "is a progress bar.

    -Bar settings first progress

    shell script cocoaDialogFilePath & "progressbar - text" & myText & "‑‑percent" & 0 & '‑‑float' & '‑‑stoppable '.

    -Create a loop and update the progress bar

    Repeat with 1 to 5 myCounter

    < What code put here for display and update the bar using the value of the progression CocoaDialog myCounter? >

    delay 1

    end repeat

    There is an short and progress bar example here macosautomation. Or an example of an AppleScript/CocoaDialog Progress bar here. The native OS X 10.10 or later AppleScript approach to a progress bar displayed in the Script Editor status bar and a progression for applications and compiled scripts dialog box.

  • There was formerly a progress bar for when the e-mails were being downloaded. It has now disappeared. What happened to him?

    My e-mail provider does not always play nice. There has always been a progress bar in the status bar to indicate that the emails were download correctly. If I don't see the progress bar, I knew to check with the provider. Recently, the progress bar went, and I have no way of knowing whether or not the emails are downloading. They appear any kind of surprise. In addition, I used to send a message that there is no new messages availalble to download (if there is no message to download) on the status bar even. He went as well. I have so no way of knowing if I get no messages because there is no, or if I don't receive messages because the provider did something. So my question is: is this an error with Thunderbird or was there an update which resulted in a loss of function that I relied on? If it's an error, what should I do about it?

    Good to know. It has been long since this problem was asked about. I thought Ad Blocker had fixed their add on.

    You mark this as resolved if it is satisfied? Thanks for the update of the question in order to help the next user of Thunderbird.

    New installation Win 8.1 and tuberculosis 24.5.0 with IMAP email server and there are no Add-ons installed. No solution on the web searches or forum.

    So far, the issue was seen in Win 7, where the progress bar has been distorted on a classic theme but not an Aero theme. In Win 8, the default themes are similar to the Win 7 classic themes, and there is no default Aero themes.

    However, TB works very well by about 8.1 win a classic or a custom theme. If, as a test, you need to install (just) a theme customized Windows site, I wonder if you would see any difference with TB.
