  I have a HP Pavilion 15 t-n200 laptop computer running Windows 7, 64-bit.

  The computer got extremely slow and work stoppage. HP diagnostic indicates a failed hard drive, and my warranty has expired. I DO NOT have the recovery media.

  My question is this: if I buy the recovery media for my HP computer, should I also buy HP hard drive for it to install correctly? Or can I just simply buy a HDD from a local retailer and use HP recovery support (and the certificate of Authenticity on the back of Microsoft) to reinstall WIndows 7?

  Some people suggest that it will work very well, while other members of the forum here have talked about issues and something of tattoos on the hard drive or the Council.

• Tips for fixing of recovery media - X120e

  Three attempts at recovery media burning for my X120e plant failed on verification to 70% with an unexpected error (rc = 9). On a cursory inspection, the DL-DVD seems to have completed the burn, but I don't want to not test this theory on my system.  The recover.ini in /recovery/ file lists the OS like WIN732, which does not match the OS for my system CTO. Is this normal? (I wonder if one) I have bad media or b) the wrong recovery partition was loaded on my system. Technical support told me that they cannot help me because my external dvd player is not Lenovo brand. My options seem to be:

  (1) drive buy a DVD external Lenovo (~ $80) and see if it does the trick, if it is not that it should fall under warranty because it is not a third-party player this time.

  (2) order a support Lenovo recovery disk (~ $ 45). This should do the trick.

  3 buy another batch of blank DVDs and see if it helps, if not go with 1) or (2).

  I'm a little hesitant to order a recovery disc right now, I am more particularly in the market for a larger DVD player. This would particularly be the case if the cause of the error is a bad recovery partition, because I believe that this should fall under warranty.

  Any advice on how to proceed? More details can be provided as required.

  Hi rlpaper, welcome to the forum.

  If you happen to have a spare hard drive that you can use for testing, (all data on it will be deleted), you might want to try test disks that you created by using them to install the player?  It is that also a good way to be 100% sure that the discs work.

  Another suggestion, and it's my own private theory, you can try using CD - R and DVD - R media + or DL media?
