Buy Windows 7 OEM and hardware to upgrade one old PC

I have a computer running windows XP Pro and want to upgrade the hardware and software.

I intend to replace the memory and the hard drive, now in the old days, they told me by Microsoft Licensing, it was ok for that but it was in the days of XP.

Microsoft changing licenses so want to make sure that it is always ok.

I don't want to run Windows 8, as is the new VISTA.

I'm not worried about my files that I intend to install fresh and they can be transferred from the old drive.

Nor am I worried about being locked to the PC once activated.

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

So I recommend that you first install the new hardware, then proceed with the installation of Windows 7 on new material.

There is no difference in the product itself.

Although if you get a generic OEM full version, it contains the
even software, it has the following disadvantages compared to the
    commercial version:

    1. the biggest drawback of an OEM version (at least in the USA) is
that its license it permanently binds to the first computer, it is
installed on. He can never legally be moved to another computer, sold,
or given (except with the original computer). If the computer
dies or is stolen, your license dies with him.

    2. he can't do a clean install, not an upgrade.

3 Microsoft offers no support for OEM versions. You cannot call their
with a problem, but rather to secure the necessary support of your
OEM; who take in charge may go anywhere between property and non-existent. Or
You can get support elsewhere, like in these forums.

Are there differences between Windows 7 OEM and the commercial full version?

Commercial versions include two disks installing 32 and 64 bits and can be moved to new systems.

OEM versions are either 32 or 64-bit - only installation disc is included - and cannot be moved to a new system.

Probably, you need to boot in the BIOS of the computer and changed on the hard drive in IDE mode, SATA, so it can be recognized by Windows XP.

Before that you plan to replace Windows 7 with Windows XP. Have you tried to familiarize yourself with the operating system first?

If you want to run Windows XP, you can consider to dual boot Windows 7 and Windows XP. You first need to know if your computer is compatible with Windows XP. Much more modern computers are gradually support for Windows XP.

I am entitled to an upgrade, as I have CS3 I want to buy a new mac and install the upgrade on the new computer. How can I do this?

If you get two new machines and the CS3 allows you to get the price reduced for a year then you should certainly pursue it.  However, I always recommend people to try before you buy.  When you get the new machines install the trial version and make sure that it works for you correctly.  Once you have confirmed it correct functions, then you can purchase the subscription.

Your other option is to buy a new computer with Windows 7 already on it. IMHO to buy a new computer with Windows 7 on it is the best option, but you must explore all options and make your own decision.

  • Windows 7 OEM vs full vs upgrade

    Hello

I work for the State of California and I need to 'upgrade' some of our PC to Windows 7 Professional.  What I asking is do I need a full version because it seems to be the license, or a version upgrade or an OEM will keep us legal?
The machines are running Windows XP Professional - OEM.  They were built by an OEM manufacturer with their other software (media) installed and we bought.
I see a ton of places selling OEM versions, but this version seems to be linked to the motherboard; because I'll probably be upgrading motherboards in a year or two, I doubt that it is for "us".  Which leaves me with the below...
With Windows 7 Professional - upgrade version - I'm not sure I can do this... What I can and be legal?
With Windows 7 Professional - Full Retail - I'm sure I can do it with this, but a little expensive.
With Volume Licensing... I don't think it's for us in this particular situation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

All three are legal, but other problems. See below:

    Right.

because I'll probably be upgrading motherboards in a year or two, I doubt that it is for "us".

Then, as you suggest, it's a bad choice for you.

Which leaves me with the below...

With Windows 7 Professional - upgrade version - I'm not sure I can do this... What I can and be legal?

You can use an upgrade version, but you can't do a upgrade with it.
The only path from XP to Windows 7 is a new facility (or a
upgrade to double - first to Vista and 7, but I do not recommend do
    that).

With Windows 7 Professional - Full Retail - I'm sure I can do it with this, but a little expensive.

Yes. But the version of upgrade should be just as good for you.

  • Can I reinstall my OS from Windows 7 OEM and reinstall my Windows 8 Pro update the store?

    Hi people,
    Happy holidays!

Ask yourself if you can help me with something... I just got my computer to my new Acer's OEM recovery media and wonder; I wanted to reinstall my original Windows 7 OS came with my computer in order to recover the programs that I've accidentally screwed up and lost during my special upgrade Windows 8 Pro I had when the store was to have the $14.99. I want to know if it is possible for me to re - install all the original media to the new drive and then run the Upgrade Advisor, follow it through, reinstall my Windows 8 Pro by using the product key that I bought at the time? Which will work? I don't have a recovery disk for the Pro Windows 8, just my product key which is saved for me. And no, there is not any Windows.old folder to reinstall the programs of the recovery partition. And no, I don't mean to update my Windows 8 Pro. I'm looking for an easy way to do what I'm not a type of technology! I appreciate all help. Thank you!

    Hello

Yes, you can reinstall Windows 7 using the disc sent by the computer manufacturer. Once Windows 7 is installed, then you can move to Windows 8. Product key Windows 8 will work, and probably you may need to contact the activation of phone to the activation service.

    Thank you.

  • I want to use my Windows 8 pre-loaded license to upgrade my old computer

To comply with my companies policies I had to change the OS in my new laptop for Windows 7. Now, I would like to use the license of windows 8 that came preloaded in the computer to upgrade my second computer. The problem is I don't have the license key and no one can help me to get it back as it is on the motherboard. I paid for the license, and as far as I know I have right to use it on any machine I want for as long I have only on a single computer at the same time, isn't? Now what should I do to get this key?

the biggest drawback of an OEM version and version is that its
license is permanently tied to the first computer on which it is installed.
It can never be moved to another. So, you can't do what you want

  • Windows vista off and stored more than one year beginning is no longer

    Hello

You don't give us enough information to help you properly.

Tell us if you get to the start at startup screen (Dell, HP, etc. or the Logo of the motherboard), or if the screen is completely blank.

So totally Virgin, re seat RAM. video card, etc or ask for the help of a computer repair shop.

If you get a follow-up of the home screen as follows:

    See if that helps you.

Do a Safe Mode system restore to before the problem started, IF you have Ant restore points.

If it doesn't, try a startup repair and / or a system restore using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft

Manufacturers recovery disks normally do not have Service Options; they are normally a relocation to the factory only settings option.

Here is the guide to repair Options using a Vista DVD from Microsoft.

Unfortunately, you have to buy it.

  • If I want to build a computer now and buy Windows 7, how much would it cost to upgrade to Windows 8?

So I intend to build my own pc, and I was wondering the question: how much would it cost if I buy Windows 7 now and later upgrade to Windows 8?

$14, 99-39, $99.  It depends on several variables.

  • Difference between upgrade of Windows 8 and Windows 8 OEM

Is there a difference between Windows 8 pro upgrade offers DVD and OEM of Windows 8? Installation specific functionality and the appearance of Windows 8 OEM differs from DVD upgrade offer?

The end result of a clean installation is the same for both versions.

The upgrade DVD requires a product calling present at the beginning of the installation, but it can be erased so that you can install clean.

The upgraded version is transferable to another system. The System Builder version is related to the first system on which it is installed.
