  OK, solved the problem.
  Some Ask program was installed that was trying to 'Demand' my home page and I wanted to use "Application" as my search engine. It was not the toolbar, but another program with a long name. Uninstalled that and I got my cursor in the bar of address once again.

  You have/display/editing of files showing etc.?  It is possible to lock the ones in place so possibly causing your problem.

  If you right-click anywhere on either of these menu options, you will see an option "Lock the toolbars" and uncheck the box to see if it will allow you to move this.

  I use Internet Explorer 8. Whenever I type a research investigate the entire area of research I get the normal lists of links to my request. Any link I click on / access to I always get a different window, so I tried. I get the yellow pages, new search sites, ads for better service, the domain information. Just a huge amount of ads. The only way I can avoid this problem is to type the address of the link actually in my address bar. I'm sure I have a virus, but so far have been unable to remove or to find it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a solution to this problem?

  You can delete all data stored in Firefox with a specific area through "Forget this Site" from the context menu of the history entry (see the history or the history sidebar) or via the subject: permissions page.
