Cache L2 on Satellite M40-295 problem

I have problem with Cache L2. My processor is: Mobile Celeron M 380. Have 1 MB L2 cache. I check with several program CPUZ, PC Wizard 2006 and other aplications of Intel. Programs showed me what Cache L2-> none or 0 KB.
I have effective bad on my laptop.
Score 3DMark 2001 1800 points, or 3500
Test of CPU in PCMark 2004 1900 should be 3000.

Hello

I'm not familiar with these diagnostic tools, but maybe these tools report that the use of the L2.
However, you can enter the BIOS and check if the level 2 cache is enabled.

  • Backlight is disabled until the power management software is loaded on the Satellite M40 - 295

Greetings to all members of the forum.

I am owner of ten months a Satellite M40-295. My problem is the following:

When I start my computer the backlight is disabled until I go into Windows and the power management program is loaded.
After that the backlight of the screen lights up. I tried to change the brightness with Fn-F6/7 and screens using Fn + F5 without success.

Init information (init messages, such as the Toshiba and Windows logo) appears on the screen (I checked it under the intense light and the screen from another angle of view), so the adapter seems to work properly.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Evangelos

I'm afraid that now, you have a problem. If the unit won't start the BIOS chip is probably damaged. In my opinion BIOS update was bad idea.

Right now I don't want write something on the screen because now it is not important at all. Please contact the customer Service of your country partner and let check the device. Sorry, but I'm 99.9% that the unit is now completely screwed.

If the appliance shows any sign of life is the case for the service. :(

    Hello

Sorry, but in my opinion there nothing to do.
You cannot move all the keys on the keyboard.
    It s is not possible.

What you can do is to change the keyboard language in the settings of the OS, but I t I think the function of the ALT GR key will change.
Another possibility is to change the keyboard to another provision, but these make no sense because you will not be able to use the special Polish panels.

  • Satellite M40-133: problem starting after a stop

When my Satellite M40 - 133 EN if I start it again all that I get is the Toshiba welcome screen.
If it is left for a while it will start as usual. When executing it is quite hot.

    Help, please.

To me, this looks like a problem with overheating.
It seems that the laptop can not start and start properly due to high internal temperature.

The main reason why an overheating problem is very simple.
Don t cooling modules work correctly. In my view, that dust and debris prevent cooling with maximum performance running fans.

Simply cleaning fan should help you.
From time to time, I clean my fans too. I use a jet of compressed air. These sprays are very useful to get rid of dust and most computer/computer laptop dealers offer these sprays.

If it will not improve the situation, then a mobile technician needs to disassemble the laptop and recommended to clean properly. In addition, it should renew the thermal grease that is placed between the CPU and the cooling module, too.

    Good luck

  • Satellite M40-103: problem with multimedia bar

    Hello
I uninstalled WinDVD5 for Toshiba and installed WinDVD6 (web downloaded and purchased), but since then the Play/Stop and other multimedia keys no longer work. I reinstalled the driver utility and I can get Internet and CD/DVD buttons (as it allows you to configure both), but the remaining 4 multimedia buttons are inadmissible in WinDVD or Windows Media player. Does anyone know if there is a driver for these buttons or a way to reconfigure their settings.

    Thank you

    Zero Hi

You are right. There is no option to set all the buttons just to set which player should be used for the CD or DVD playing. As far as I know that there is no separate driver that can set these buttons.

If you want you can try to install another DVD player and try to use buttons with her.

  • Vista on Satellite M40 - 285-> is there any problem?

    Hello

I have a Satellite M40-285, my wish is to install Vista on it, I know about pcmcia issues that lock boot Vista and solve their pcmcia.sys file renaming, but this does not solve the problem really, pcmcia slot and card reader didn't work.

So I would like to know if Toshiba will launch a driver for Vista, or, everyone has solved this problem with any tip where Vista starts normally and pcmcia works fine?

    Thank you
    Kind regards.

Toshiba M40 satellite will certainly not throw all Vista drivers or tools. This device is not Vista capable and there is no support for Vista. If you want to test with Vista create the second partition and try to install Vista on it. I did the same thing on my Vista not supported by Satellite M70.

  • PCMCIA.sys problem with Vista on Satellite M40 135

    Hello

    (Sorry for my English)
I tried to install Windows Vista on my Satellite M40-135. (I added the 512 MB of RAM).

But, like all users, I have the problem with pcmcia.sys. Vista starts successfully when I delete the pcmcia.sys file.
But I have a problem: I have a PCMCIA TV and I could not use it without the pcmcia.sys file...

So I was wondering if Toshiba will download the new drivers for Windows Vista... This laptop is 'Vista capable' according to Microsoft System requirements...

    Waiting for your help...

Unfortunately, it seems that the snipe is right.
Can the hardware specifications of this laptop allows you to install the Vista
but it seems that Toshiba has decided to publish no Vista drivers for each series laptop.

    Hello

Seems the BSOD appears and the laptop operating system cannot start as should!
The BSOD appears especially because of the hardware or software serious malfunction.
First we need to find if its hardware or software related problem.

Installation simply from the recovery CD is a simpler way to find out what could be wrong
You must format the first partition C, where the old operating system has been installed and install the new OS on the C.

  • Satellite M40 startup / shutdown problems!

For almost 3 months now, my Satellite M40 * don't power up * unless it is completely and absolutely * cold *. It freezes at the beginning.

Every time I have shut down or restart my laptop, I have to wait about 25 minutes, so I can start it up again. What is happening is stops at the "* Toshiba" logo * screen, from the beginning and he * gel *. I have to press the power button until it turns the power off.

It's a fact: the laptop is * NOT * extremely hot. Its temperatures are * regular *, I've been monitoring for some time now. If overheating is not the problem here.

-It also won't stop; it freezes again in the * ' Windows is shutting down * ' display messages... and it freezes.

-I know that another user of this forum who has had the same problem, but access to its wire has alleged that closed just because some have said of him/her to format and install the OS again. This is * NOT * a software problem! I have tried myself, for all its worth.

-Today I have updated the * BIOS * also, it has not solved anything.

So, knowing that I'm not the only one to have this kind of trouble with M40, what to do? Just buy a new one after 2 years?

    Hello Ricardo

Let's be realistic. It is really possible that software is not the problem but tell me please what you can do in such situation. Not much. In another thread, the guy wrote quite reasonable notice. All you can do is make clean OS install and hope it helps.

I agree with you that problem described is certainly hardware related issue but you can not do much and portable must be verified by the service. Using specific diagnostic tools, they can say with certainty what can be the problem.

I don't really understand your last sentence. To be honest on this forum I have seen similar topics but unrelated to the M40 and it's really pointless to understand as untimely M40.

  • Satellite M40 PSM40E - big problem

    Model: Satellite M40-237 (PSM40E)

To start from the beginning. Around a year ago, the laptop began to restart occasionally. Overheating is not the cause, sometimes randomly - even when I just turn on the laptop. I searched the net for the question and found that many laptops Toshiba have reboot problem. It seems that if the portable computer "thinks" it's overheating as sometimes it is not just a reboot, it stops, but leave the cooler work.

Since there is no solution to the problem I just use the phone normally, ignoring the ocassional restarts. Sometimes, he would spend months before it restarts, sometimes it would happen a few times a day. Recently, it has started to happen a lot, so I decided to clean the laptop again to make it East of cooling perfectly. Coolers are clean and I applied a new thermal paste on the processor, chipset and graphics card. When I turned it on it has restarted several times and then it worked fine for a few days.

Today it restarted again, to be precise, he stops and left cooler work (although it was obviously not overheating). I turned it off by removing the battery and it works again, something I've done many times before, when this happens - usually it stops just restart later. But this time it would be closed again, I turned and he left like that for awhile.

And here's the last problem, something that has never happened before. Now when I turn on the turn it restarts immediatelyover and more. It goes no further than the toshiba welcome screen I can see briefly.

I tried a few things to eliminate a potential cause of this problem:
-It works with or without battery
    -removed the optical drive
    -removed HARD drive
-removed/changed the order of the RAM chips

It just keeps restarting, so as much as I think the problem might be connected with:
-power - maybe my diet started to malfunction about a year ago when this problem started, and it's completely broke down somewhere now?
-battery - it is a lot (it's on about 40% of the original force), this could be the problem? But, the tour should work without the battery at all, so I don't see how
-motherboard - something could be broken on the motherboard, this case, it is virtually impossible to find and repair the fault
-temperature sensors - they are showing the correct time but since the round is underway down to 'cool', there is perhaps a problem that makes the tour think it is overheating. If this is the case, is it possible to disable the detectors somehow?

If you have experience with something similar or tips please answer. As it is, it seems that I can just recover the removable parts and throw everything in the garbage :-/

    HELO drool

Long story. What to say? Friend of mine has Satellite M40 for a year now and it still works fine without any serious problems. May be time to cleaning it but he must know what he wants to do with his laptop.

In any case when the is in your sentence followed by validation
    > so I decided to clean the laptop again so that it cools perfectly. Coolers are clean and I applied a new thermal paste on the processor, chipset and graphics card.
is there for me, end of story. Laptop has been opened, no one knows what you did exactly, did you all following some manuals.

Sorry but I do not see a solution for you. Or you can ask for professional help and pay for it or sell the laptop on eBay. Please do not throw it garbage. ;) earn money with it.

  • Problem with heat on initialize to top with Satellite M40

    Hello group,

I have a question, when my laptop Satellite M40 warm up and I tried to restart the display changes to 2/3 and lock-up. Then I have to press the power button to stop the process and expect that the laptop cools a bit. I have them push the button power and Windows works fine. What is happening and what should be replaced or added software.

    Kind regards
    DJ

    Hello

I'm not a technician but I can say with certainty that described issue has nothing to do with the software and may not be resolved this way. Problem described is certainly caused by the material. It may be the graphics card itself or a faulty capacitor on the motherboard.

Technician sorry but only help you and give an exact explanation. All this can be tested with special diagnostic tools.

  • Satellite M40 - problem USB

    Hello

I am the owner of a Satellite M40-129 and it seems, I have problems with USB.

When I stopped the WinXP system, I think that it is in English, hibernate mode and try to restart, I get a blue screen with the text and with a failure message, the file "usbport.sys" caused the crash.
In addition, I use all three usb ports. On, I use a USB 2.0 on the other Hub usb hub 1.1 and the mouse directly on the third port. Since a few days, I installed a printer multifunction Brother on the USB 2.0 hub, but from the beginning of the system, I can't connect to the internet, because I always get a new failure message, that the (Allied Telesyn AT AR215) DSL modem is already in use or another usb device is improperly installed. To solve the problem, I tried almost all the positions of USB port for both devices and I de - and reinstalled the two train several times. But in addition, I have updated the BIOS yesterday, but without success. No, I use either only the internet with disconneted printer or the printer does not have access to the internet until you restart without connected printer.

    I hope someone can help.
    Thank you
    Thomas

    HI Thomas

Sorry, but it is not easy to give you a good explanation. As far as I know a few other components materials don t support hibernation procedure. The problem is that if the unit goes into hibernation mode every process must be stopped and some of them cannot be stopped on the easy way and stop correctly but forced to shut down. I'm sure that your device goes into hibernation correctly mode if there is no external device. Am I wrong?

Try to remove all external devices and after that, go to the Device Manager. Remove the USB ports and restart the device. After a reboot all components will be recognized and installed correctly. Check if the modem works correctly if there are no other USB devices connected to the laptop.
