Vista on Satellite M40 - 285-> is there any problem?

Hello

I have a Satellite M40-285, my wish is to install Vista on it, I know about pcmcia issues that lock boot Vista and solve their pcmcia.sys file renaming, but this does not solve the problem really, pcmcia slot and card reader didn't work.

So I would like to know if Toshiba will launch a driver for Vista, or, everyone has solved this problem with any tip where Vista starts normally and pcmcia works fine?

Thank you
Kind regards.

Toshiba M40 satellite will certainly not throw all Vista drivers or tools. This device is not Vista capable and there is no support for Vista. If you want to test with Vista create the second partition and try to install Vista on it. I did the same thing on my Vista not supported by Satellite M70.

  • Satellite M40-285 - CPU overheating after the accident with water

    Hello everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40-285, and 2 days ago, my girlfriend dumped a cup of tea on the keyboard... The computer turns off after a few seconds. Immediately, I put the laptop upside down and disassembled parts. There was some liquid inside (especially inside the speakers under the keyboard and where is the DVD unit). Other parts (CPU, memory, wireless card, hard drive area) were completely dry. I have it with napkings and dry with a hair dryer (later I read that I shoud never use a hair dryer...).

The turs laptop on one seems to work fine (only the first screen where it says toshiba remains more than normal long (15 seconds or more) before entering windows). But the problem I have is that the CPU gets overheated and the laptop shuts down after 5-15 minits of use. I'm getting attention via the RightMark utility I said "* Core overheating * ' and the temperature always between 45 - 55 c

I replaced the thermalgrease but the problem remains. The CPU fan works (I think that the two speeds). The heatsink is very hot after the computer turns off (it burns my fingers if I touch)

What could be the problem? * Is the processor damaged? Can be a problem in the motherboard? *
I don't know what to don't know because is not woth the money to send it to the technical service, but I can't buy a new laptop now...

    Hey,.

I m wondering that the laptop is still ongoing and no more parts are damaged. In addition he s very cool that you could fix it yourself and dry. Many people don t know how ;)

In any case, if the CPU is overheating it seems that something on the assembly or the cooling fan is damaged and must be replaced. Possibly peut t fan run with the highest speed more, who knows.

Of course, it is difficult to say what is the cause of the problem, but in your case I would try ordering a new fan and the heatsink too. The two parties shouldn't t be expensive and it seems that you can replace yourself.
So just contact a service provider allowed in your country to order these parts. They can do this.

Good luck and feedback would be great, I am interested on this! :)

Satellite M40 is about two years old and this laptop is not taken in charge of Vista. I guess this hood must be new BIOS for Vista installation. Unfortunately will not create new Toshiba Vista supported BIOS and all drivers for this model of laptop. :(

I have Satellite M40-psm40 with ATI x 300 and my OS is Vista. The card has 64 MB of memory and takes 255MB with total of 319 MB of main RAM memory.

    How can I reduce it?
    * I checked the BIOS to see if can decrease, but nothing in the BIOS to change.

    Hello

Bad news man. You can not increase or decrease this RAM graphics card!
The installed ATI MOBILITY RADEON supports the fix own memory. It is not shared video RAM.

    Hello

    (Sorry for my English)
I tried to install Windows Vista on my Satellite M40-135. (I added the 512 MB of RAM).

Unfortunately, it seems that the snipe is right.
Can the hardware specifications of this laptop allows you to install the Vista
but it seems that Toshiba has decided to publish no Vista drivers for each series laptop.

I use a wireless LAN via a router. the connection is broken down into periods of time, sometimes for 2 seconds, sometimes half an hour. my phone says company technical support, it is perhaps due to the incompatibility of my network wireless adapter WEP. I use a WEP key/128 bit / hexadecimal... could someone please give me a tip how to configure my WiFi card so that it works continuously.
I already thank you for any help!

    Hello

I read a few topics that have been discussed in this similar subject forum with a BG 2200 wireless card and it seems that a new wireless driver update could solve this problem. I recommend to download the driver from the Intel site and install it.

  • How to install Vista on Satellite M40

I have a Satellite Pro M40 and I think to install Vista on it. I have no problem with the development of an operating system on my PC, after many, many times before. but I'm not sure I put it on my M40.
    Can someone give some advice?

Do I have to reformat the drive M40 first? If so, any reformatting program won't work or can I do it via the recovery disk provided. I am wary about using the recovery disc I do not know what to expect.

    Any help appreciated.

You can choose several ways of instillation. You can upgrade XP to Vista, you can install the Vista on a second partition or you will overwrite the existing XP.

If you overwrite the XP Vista will delete all installed applications.
I recommend you to install Vista on the second partition.
In this case, you can use the two operating system, XP, and Vista.

When you start you laptop, you will get a Boot Manager.
Then you could choose either XP or Vista

PS: as much as I know many applications is not compatible with Vista, and you will need new versions (if they exist!)
At the moment no Vista drivers are available for M40 :(

    to remove the pcmcia.sys file.

Good luck to everyone who wants to try it.

  • Satellite L655-178 anyone knows any problem with Truecrypt?

    Hi everyone :)

You are looking for advice or comments from people who use portable computers, truecrypt satellite and toshiba.
Anyone know of any issues or problems with full system on a Toshiba L655-178 Truecrypt encryption?

    By default, L655-178 has 3 partitions (C, D and a 400 MB a hidden) HARD drive.

The default software supplied makes any change on the MBR?

    Thank you!

Sorry I don t use the T are you e C r y p t software on my laptop but I recommend you to create a Toshiba Recovery disk before installing this software.
No one can guarantee that everything will work properly after installing these software therefore you must create the disc in order to be able to put the computer laptop back to factory settings if something goes wrong.

  • Win XP (Home) - is there any problem of relocation?

    Hello

MS has had Win XP load stop some time ago, if I reinstall I'll be able to get the SP1, SP2, SP3 version and other updates?

I have to hire all my Dell drivers all over again?

I have the reinstallation CD, my current OS is XP (Pro), should I have to press F12 before start of PC and boot from this CD?

    Thank you

First question: Microsoft made the new updates for XP, but all those they have done for the last 15 years or so for it are still available, and Yes your Windows Update will be always enter them and install them for you.

For Dell, it depends. If you want to use the official Dell restore CD drive, it probably has all the drivers built in.  But if not, then you need to get them directly from the Dell Web site.

For the re - install from the CD, I can't promise you that F12 is the key on your particular model computer, but yes, it's the basic idea. You start from the CD and just choose to do a clean install when it asks and follow the steps in the normal installation.

  • Is there any problem in the planning of the GATHER_STATS_JOB during peak load times?

    Hi all

The default DBMS_STATS (GATHER_STATS_JOB) job runs during our peak load time.

It will have a performance impact on normal database transactions?

Is it better to postpone this window?

That all the problems can we expect during the execution of the task (locks object, IO high due to table / index readings, high use of the CPU etc.)?

Please help me to get the answer. I could not find the net information.

    Satish,

If you have the license of AWR, you can consult the AWR reports to see when your database is no longer idle. In the 10 chronological model g, the most significant aspect is the DB time has passed, so the period where the DB time is less could be a good candidate.

You can also check the number of logical/physical i/o performed every second, the number of sessions and other ratios that appear in the upper part of the AWR (for example the "Load Profile" section) report.

  • Who installed Vista Ultimate SB to the Satellite M40

Is there anyone who have Vista Ultimate installed Satellite M40? I have big problems to install Vista. After that I have disabled the PCMCIA is OK. I'm looking for a new update of the BIOS and the Vista drivers.

    Hello

I m a M40 owner but I did not install Vista on this unit. I use the XP.
I have not installed Vista on this unit because according the Toshiba document I found in this forum the Toshiba drivers are not available and I n t think that this driver will be available in the next time, or any time for this series of laptop.

Is the laptop has Vista capable sticker? I don t think so :(

  • Satellite M40: HARD drive not working after laptop computer trasported turned upside down

My Satellite M40 is facing a strange problem: whenever I have transport (for example, in the trunk of my car) backwards instead of in his natural position or vertically, after the transport, the HD does not work for a few hours. The BIOS does not see the HD because it is not present at all. After a few hours of rest, without moving, if you try to turn on the PC again, the HD magically comes to work again backwards.

My HD is made with soda water? :)

Talk seriously... What do you think it is?

    Hi franz

Not easy to say what it is, or why it happens. Maybe it? s a bad connection of the HARD disk.
I guess that this happens because of the agitation in the car.
Well, I don? don't know if it helps but you can try to check the connection of the HARD disk.
The second possibility to use another HARD disk. It might be because there is something wrong with the HARD drive.
