  Hello

  I saw the FAQ license RS saying that SRM requires no vSphere all be of the same edition and features will be affected by which edition is used.

  Which raises a number of questions in my mind.  For example if my environment is as such:

  • Production site with multiple ESX using Enterprise Plus with Nexus 1000V
  • Recovery site with several ESX using Advanced edition
  • Enough to set up for two sites license SRM and vCenter

  I guess that network should not much question, as I can manually map the port network group on the recovery plan.

  So my questions:

  1. Can I configure manually this ESX made uses SRM for commissioning virtual machines running the recovery plan?
     • I don't have a DRS on the DR site to distribute virtual machines and use all the resources.
  2. What happens when SRM tries to start a virtual machine with more than 4vCPU in the DR site?
     • Advance Edition limited my VMs to 4vCPU

  Your correct indeed neglected the advanced part, DRS is not supported. But another question for you: do you only use the equipment have the Dr site for DR purposes or you also make use of the material for other purposes as for example the test? Is it not that you can always create a business case to buy a license of the company and use the site of recovery for test purposes. In case a disaster occurs and a failover is invoked, you can add stimulus to stop your test virtual machines on the recovering site, before the SRM protected VM. This way make you full use of all the material on the protégé and the recovering site.

  Looking at your question again, it makes me think. If you create a cluster on the recovering site and map this cluster cluster on the protected site. All virtual machines that are protected will be started on the cluster during failover. OK you won't have DRS so resources are not distributed on the hosts, but they run and computers vMotion virtual host to another, you can manually.

  Point which is that you want to map individual VMS to ESX host, making your your design SRM very complex and difficult to maintain. Rather go for mapping clusters and take account of the fact that you have to manually virtual computers vMotion between host computers to create a balanced distribution of resources (or buy some DRS). It makes your life a lot easier.

• Better use of the 10GbE with vSphere Enterprise

  We are about to deploy a new SAN connected with 10 GbE (iSCSI and NFS). Servers (5 in total, with about 50 VMs) all have 2x10GbE and 2x1GbE ports. Everything will be connected with a pair of Nexus 3000 10GbE switches. We read a lot of information how the best way to use the 10 GB connections. There are many conflicting views on how best to configure the networking, but most of the documentation recommends setting up distributed vSwitches. Unfortunately we lack more Enterprise it is not an option. We * could * updated, but at this point, I want to avoid this path.

  With that support is in place, what is the best way to make use of 10 GB using standard vSwitches? I'm fine with using the ports of 1 GB if necessary, but it would be great if we could put everything on all 10 GB ports.

  Recommendations and suggestions greatly appreciated!

  As you've probably discovered already your best bet is to use Enterprise Plus licenses so that you can take advantage of the i/o control network to divide the 10Gb network cards and share them with iSCSI, NFS, vMotion, virtual machine and management.

  Given your other options I would create two switches.  A management and vMotion with connections rising 2x1GB.  Configure this active / standby with active management on a NETWORK card and watch over the other and vice versa for vMotion that each 1 GB NIC is dedicated to a single task, but always the possibility to switch on it are required.

  With the second switch add the two 10 GB uplinks and create two vmkernel iSCSI ports.  Set each uplink active on a portgroup and unused on the other and then activate the iSCSI connection.  See the picture below for an example.

  

  Now create additional exchanges for traffic of NFS and virutal machine and assign them to the same switch.  Set up NFS as active / standby and the VM to route based on the port id.  Don't forget to give a different ID for each type of traffic to VLAN.

  If you are familiar with QoS on Cisco you can prioritize traffic iSCSI, NFS, and virtual machine accordingly to ensure that the iSCSI traffic is always available.  You can take this a little more away by setting transmit rate limits on portgroup VM traffic so that he is not eat all 10 GB of the uplink.

  We used 4 * VMware ESX Enterprise 3.5 U4 with Center Virtual v2.5 to our datacenter keys for 2 years. With the release of vSphere we have upgraded to vSphere Enterprise with vCentre since we had bought maintenance for 3 years.

  Now let's deploy another 4 * vSphere Enterprise more than servers in one of our other data centers in another location and use of the vCentre same server as our key data center. Two data centers are connected via an MPLS connection.

  My query is what is happening with regard to the two lic. and the characteristics of vCentre/vSphere so we have a places vSphere Enterprise Clusters and in another site running a vSphere Enterprise clusters rained for two configurations of the plant as the vSwitch distributed with Ent to a network running. More and the other added features more from the company. What happens if we use the Cisco Nexus 1000 what impact also who have on the global configuration if a site is running Enterprise and other companies.

  And also how should I handle the licenses of some of my servers are Ent. and others are Ent. More?

  Enterprise edition is available only to large corporate clients not to individuals. If you have received this key to your business your IT Department should provide you with the information necessary to download the image file.

  Without this information, you cannot configure authentication, volume license products will have to be re - authenticate at least every 6 months to continue to be used.

  This depends mainly on the VM/template of the IMO's virtual hardware version. If it is already version 8, you may not be able to use it with prior to version 5 hosts.

The idea behind this is that we want to be able to create an interactive PDF form that can be saved without download it anywhere by one of our users (because they cannot access internet when they fill out the form). At a later stage the user must download the PDF file in our system that will read the contents of the form and download these data to the database. Our system is a Java web-based back-office system.
