  IMO, you need to have the profile that you want associated with the default profile HTML files. I'd do it by editing the profiles.ini file to change the default profile that is labeled as default = 1, , but someone else might have a method 'smooth'.
  But then all you want to open in the default browser opens in Firefox with this 'profile HTML '. When you use Firefox as default browser in Windows, it will only use the profile marked in the profiles.ini file by default when the default browser is called to open.

  To answer your question, update usually retains your personal data (bookmarks, passwords recorded, etc.). However, it is always a good idea to keep a backup of your personal data in case of hard drive failure or accidental formatting, preferable on another hard drive, a USB pin/USB/thumb/key or a CD/DVD, so that you don't miss them.   To do what you want, you need to change some advanced settings.

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Type of topic: config in the address bar.

If this method is too difficult then just don't change the settings and leave a page "what's new". I know it is free SW and contribute many dedicated, but to do your darnedest to confuse or annoy your users is not the way to do it.   Comcast & Norton are already over 5 weeks of delay in the release of a compatibility update for Firefox 20.

  Norton being the update compatibility Firefox 20 for their retail security applications in the 2 hours 20 Firefox being out, my guess is that Comcast is a delaying the update for their version of 'brand' of Norton.
