Can I install Win7 from my installation DVD original as a "guest OS" in a VMware machine?

I want to set up several "virtual machines" under the free version of 'non-commercial' VMware, and I would like to know if it's OK to instantiate each of the same installation Win7 DVD I installed on the physical machine that will run the VMware Player.   Maybe it's just my ignorance of modern computer technology, but I can't find a clear statement that the use of a Windows installation disc is in the context of the technology of virtual machines, either between the books online from Microsoft or VMWare (well, maybe it's on page #585 of the version of "Summary" of the LICENSE agreement) (, but I'm not going to look through it).

Each virtual machine will be used to run a separate application of untrustworthy (a few games and a software development environment) as the only (other than a Web browser) program installed on a computer with access only to the disk partition hard small sandbox provided my physical host machine.  I like the idea that when a virus crashprone applications goes toes-up the top, the damage will be contained in this file to a disk and may be correctable by retrieving the most recent backup of the 'State of the virtual machine.

The VMware virtual machine player waiting for / require its users to make their own separate arrangements for a copy legally authorized of any operating system they want to install as the "guest operating system" on a newly created virtual machine.   I can't afford to buy a complete stand-alone license for each application that I want to run in one of these sandboxes "protected", and I don't want to buy a full MSDN subscription.   Because I'm going to 'use' my single license of the environment at the same time, it seems that it should be OK for me, but I know how dissimilar morality and legality can be.   Just do the "obvious thing" and hold it with my Win7 install discs?  What will happen if I start to make the virtual machines of the operation "Activate Windows"?

Hello

One license is for a single Installation.

And this includes in Virtual Machines.

If you have installed on your computer and on a Machine virtual Windows 7, you need 2 licenses.

Windows 7 installed on your computer and 3 virtual machines, you need 4 licenses.

etc.

See you soon.

  • Upgrade to Win7 from damaged Vista DVD

Here's the scenario. Vista Ult x 64 developed a problem starting after the installation of a system app would not start. Original OS DVD inserted to run the system restore I had created just before the installation application. Could not get the system to read the DVD at the start. He tried but would just give up and try to start, but fail.

Turn DVD had developed a crack emanating from its hub which penetrated into the storage area of the disc. AUGH!

Called MS and was informed that the replacement DVD is no longer available for Vista. AUGH!

I have a dual-boot system, and the original Windows XP CD is still intact.

I'm ready to go for Win7 64 Ult and I am concerned about the upgrade process. As the process in the past has been, I suppose that the system will ask you to verify that I am in control of the original OS media which I am for the XP partition. Problem is, I don't have to upgrade the XP partition, only the Vista partition including the disc is now damaged.

    What should do?

    Hello

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

"How to activate Vista normally and by Activation of the phone '

    And follow these steps:

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.

  • Portege 3490CT - I can't install XP using the USB dvd burner

    Hello

I can't install Windows XP Home edition. I have USB-DVD writer and also an external recorder Toshiba on PCMCIA (CPI 5025a Toshiba) but he couldn t find any external recorder.

I remove the HARD drive and format the extern in 2 parts.
I first install BACK and copy the files of Windows XP Home edition on the second part, but I could also install it because of the conflict of the FAT and NTFS t. In the BIOS, I chose cardbus-16 bit. My CD burner works (tested before).

Please help to install Windows on my laptop.

You cannot install Windows XP directly because there is no driver for the external optical drive to build.

Mainly, you're on the right track.
Format the HARD drive, make two partitions the two FAT32.
Copy the folder I386 from your CD to install XP on the second partition.
    Start the installation calling winnt.exe.
Install XP on the partition of frist.
After the installation is complete, you can use the XP "convert.exe" command to change FAT32 to NTFS partitions. Run "convert.exe /?' in a DOS window to get the correct settings."

    Hello

Maybe you have an old version of your Windows XP operating system in the Microsoft Windows CD.
I guess you are not able to install the OS, because some updates and SP are missing on the CD.
You should try to include service packs of MS, and then install the operating system.

  • Can I install XP from a computer die on "newer" computer

I recently got a new laptop at work.  My home computer died a year before, so I need a new.  The computer dead was built by the wife of a former colleague, and I have no more contact with one of them.

My employer will let me buy my old lap top, at a pretty good price. Since I'm totally cheep, I plan to use it and re-install my drivers of keyboard and speaker, etc., on the top of the tower.  However, my employer has to whipe all of the machine, including the operating system.  I have the installation disc and the key to the XP that were installed on the dead computer.  One of our specialists thought that I would be able to install XP from this drive on the old lap top.  I anticipate that this will be a problem because they key has been used before on the dead computer.  Is there a way to get the key reset since I no longer use this license on the dead computer?  I have to stall with XP because some of the working software I need to use the House is not compatible with Windows 7 (and thus the problem with buying a new computer... I have XP for my OS for the working software must be installed).

If the XP CD that was used on the old computer was a retail copy, you can use it on the new laptop. You must use the product key that is on the orange sticker on the CD retail case in this matter. You will not have a problem with activation.

If the XP CD that was used on the old computer was an OEM (HP, Dell, etc.), you can't use it on the laptop. You will need to purchase a full copy of XP to use on the laptop. The product key on the laptop will belong to your employer volume license and cannot be used.

As you must have XP, you must use a copy retail to install. Be sure to install all the drivers and the specific portable software later. You can find them in the computer Web site portable mftr... MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Can't install or uninstall the installer download D110a all-in-one printer

I had my D110 printer works correctly under vista on my previous computer.  Without the original installation disc I tried to install installation software downloaded on my new computer laptop windows 7, with several problems.

Uninstaller fails to halfway, so I have to manually delete the files.  Two of the DLLs in the bin of imaging folder will not delete.  They are listed in the active processes Task Manager, but the Task Manager is unable to stop the process if the files cannot be deleted.

When you run the installation program PS_AIO_07_D110_USW_Full_Win_enu_140_126, little time in installation, a window pop up says that something is to be the original installation disc.   Ignore this message, the installation takes place until the other window says that I need the installation for network64.msi disk.  Ignore this message, the installation seems to proceed until it stalls in the final configuration step.  After this process, I can print wireless in a program such as Word, but there is no icon for the center of HP, so I can't scan a multi-page document.

I repeated several times, always with the same result.  HP troubleshooting is not deal with the problems arising from the installation of the software and I have not spotted a discussion of these issues on the forum.

Who did.  Uninstall and reinstalled worked without a hitch.  Thank you.  But I'm left with the feeling that if HP cannot provide setup and uninstall the software that does not require a such work extended around, they should include with the printer and the manual user instructions step by step you gave me bove.
