  Its actually the original SATA aka SATA-I (150 MB/s) and yes it will work to use a SATA-III... All SATA is backward compatible.   If you can find a PATA SSD then probably. You should make sure that the rider is manually to the master. There could also be compatibility problems.

  Overall, I would recommend you just replace it with a regular PATA HDD... There is less chance of a problem.
