  There are a lot of Microsoft system files & folders on your PC need absolutely present and correct for Windows at startup and to work correctly (or at all). If you mess with them withpout knowing what they do you stand a very real chance to mess up your PC big time.

  The fact that some files go back a few years isn't surprising - normal sound.

  Leave them alone or get an expert to take a look so you should absolutey.

  I would remove contain not them since the installation of things like the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable run-time library files that some of your installed third-party programs may need and use.

  I have it showing upward in Add/Remove programs dating back to 2005.

  If you uninstall the redistributable c++, you might start to see errors like these:

  This application has failed to start because MSVCRT90.dll was not found.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

  These DLLs are part of some of the facilities C++ Redistributable, and falls under the influence of Windows side-by-side (SxS) technology (which I'll be happy to explain if you care to know about this).  You may be able to get away with the last and best Redistributable, but who knows what things you have installed and that you need (in addition to you).

  They are there to protect against a vulnerability or to provide updates to the o/s.

  You can remove these log files if you want, but they are generated automatically so that they will come back.  And there is already a purge calendar built into OS X to limit the size of the console of newspapers.  Unless you are desperately short of disk space, there is no advantage to clear the logs from the console manually - let the regular daily/weekly/monthly maintenance scripts to take care of purge of old files.
