• How can I replace a compaq presario C762NR hard drive and reinstall windows?

  My friend brought me his computer and said that he would not start. I tried to boot into safe mode and normal mode and it would not work. It would simply flash a blue screen and restart. After you run a test it is determined that the hard drive has failed. A new laptop is not an option at this point.

  I bought a new hard drive and I ordered the HP recovery disk. What are the appropriate steps to complete this replacement?

  The computer is out of warranty and so is the hard drive. The computer has Windows Vista on it. The failed hard drive was 160 gb, 2.5 ", SATA 1.5 gb/s, 8 MB cache. The news is the same except that it is SATA 3 gb/s.

  This is my first time, replacing a hard drive. I'm confident about it, but I want to just make sure I do it correctly.

  All you have to do after replacing the HARD drive is the following.

  Start Notepad and open the CD/DVD drive.  Insert the first disc of recovery.  Hold the power button until the laptop stops.  Press the power button to start the laptop that should now boot from the recovery disk and start the recovery process.

  I don't know if it is possible to upgrade 98 Me XP, but I know you can't straight upgrade 98 to vista. You can only pass a single version, so it should be XP to vista.

  You can - clean installation however.  No direct path from Windows XP to Windows 7.

  If the machine is old, but - I wouldn't bother.  You will end up by it hate because it is slow and probably blame the operating system.

  The upgrade to Windows 7 is not a solution for the loss of connectivity to a printer - not a logic.

  If you download and install the latest appropriate WIndows XP complete software driver for your printer and maybe upgrade the firmware of the printer itself-, it would probably solve your problem.  If you use it as a wireless printer (it is printed through your network, but not connected by a cable [ethernet]) so you can check for updgrades to the firmware of your router (level) and reconfigure your network completely wireless if you start with a good foundation.
