Can I use an existing Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD for Windows 7 Professional upgrade using the keys I bought instead of loading down?

I've updated three of my computers from Windows XP Professional for Window 7 Professional using kits of DVD I bought. I have three sets of Window 7 professional DVD in my possession. I bought a new license [facility provided by Microsoft key] for my ThinkPad. I ordered also accompanying the DVD, which I imagine will happen next week. Rather than wait for the DVD, can I use one of my existing 32 Bit Windows DVD for installation to upgrade with the new license key that I got from Microsoft?

No problem - but you might want to wait, if your existing DVD is the original version, because a new will have SP1 integrated, so it'll even some hassles :)

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

Unfortunately, you cannot use the keys provided for Windows 8 for Windows 7. In any case, directly upgrade your installation from Windows 7 to Windows 8. The keys are specific to the Windows versions, editions and architectures. They cannot be used between.

  • If I buy the retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium can I use the key to product again if I have to reinstall?

    Original title: first installation

purchase windows 7 Home premium full version IM on best buy and I want to know if something happens to my pc and I reinstall windows 7 again once that I have to use a new product key or can I still use the same serial number im dvd original buy next week?

You can reinstall as many times as you like on the same PC. No need for a new product key.

There is a slight chance after the 5th reinstall or significant physical changes, you may need to reactivate by phone:

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

  • Floppy disks to install Windows have a related key or can I use the key with any disk?

    Re Activation:

I help people of disabnled. My blind customer has an OEM version completely crushed of XP and a damaged hard disk, so because there is no CD or the way to reinstall XP, I found an installation CD and, separately, a product code given to me by another disabled person who has dumped his computer and bought a new one. Each CD has its own code of tied product, or can they be separated like this?

Also is it possible to check a product code to ensure that it is valid and available for use?

I said yesterday a nearly identical request!

The machine should have a COA sticker on it (assuming that it is a large manufacturer or pre-installed).

The key is that the machine is 'owner' and must be valid.

If the machine is one of the major manufacturers, you can buy recovery discs on their part for this machine, which will restore it to its original state.

The disks do NOT have a key on them - any drive OEM System Builder for the same edition of XP (Home or Pro) should work well on this machine - but certainly, you will need to download the drivers for it if you get the recovery disks. (once - again see the site of the manufacturer for those)

  • Satellite Pro A100 - no restore CD - can I use the key to Toshiba?

    Hi all

I bought quite old friend Satellite Pro A100 laptop and lost windows XP Pro CD,
    I have the product key.

Can I get Windows xp pro eng cd somewhere and install it on my laptop with my cd key?

    Thanks for your help

    Hello

The serial key you found at the bottom of the device belongs to the Windows OS preinstalled Toshiba and touches it s an OEM that will NOT work with the other disks in Windows XP.

This means that if you want to install Windows XP on this notebook then you buy the Toshiba recovery disc again the ASP in your country or you will take an original Microsoft Win XP disc and will use this disk and the key that belongs to this Win XP OS.

    You have these two options.

  • I have a Photosmart 3210 - Can I use the front USB port instead of port back? (back is broken).

Hello!  Trying to help a friend.  Rear USB port no longer his plug slips outside, no electrical connection.  Tearing in the unit for her brief submeter (out of warranty, nothing to lose).  Can I use an adapter with a standard USB plug on each end to connect to a PC for printing?  The user manual is too vague on this - looks like front USB is just for PictBridge stuff.  Any suggestions/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    kott2ke

    Hello kott2ke,

Front USB port: print photos directly from your camera or storage only.

Rear USB port provides connectivity for printer and USB.

    Kind regards

  • Can I use the product key of Windows 7 on another computer

I have an old Acer (3 yrs Old) computer that has win 7 Home Pre. installed. The computer died and is no longer functional. Can I use the key I want to re - format and install Windows 7 on another computer?

    Not on computers preinstalled

The activation key belongs to the Assembly of the computer if it shows a tag oem on the bottom or the side of the case.

If you have a lot of detail with an activation key and dvd it might work

Enter the key here and see if M$ offers a download of the iso in your language

  • How many times can I use the Windows XP Professional key?

    Hi all

I know there are tons of answers there, but the answers are all different.

I bought two copies of WinXP Pro 3 years for $100 each.

Since then, I used the keys to many times since I had and have several different computers.
I would just format a model when I catch a virus if I get new hardware, etc.

I read on a forum that people can use the internet to activate about 30 times a button.
    Some say that only once.

What is the right answer? I know that I used it at least 5 times on each key.

Main reason I ask is because I want to buy Windows 7 and upgrade all my comps finally.

Upgrade from version and the full version of different in the activation process of Windows 7?
Since I have Windows XP Original, I would get the upgrade version, but if it is different from the full version, I would buy the lot.

    Thanks in advance!
    Mike

You can move a copy to the detail of Windows to another computer. You can not have it installed on two computers at the same time, however.

  • Can I use the same product key in a virtual machine that I use for the Windows installation that hosts the VM?

I have a valid Windows 7 Professional installation as well as a copy of VMWare Workstation running on Windows 7. I would like to install a VM Windows 7 that I can "break" without worrying about my host system. Can I use the same product key for the virtual machine that I currently use on the host system, or do I have to buy a different product key for the virtual machine?

    Thank you!

No, you will need to purchase an additional license. The virtual machine is considered to be a separate computer.

  • Can I use the same windows on my virtual machine?

I had windows pre-installed in my dell laptop (Latitude E6420). I did not have the cd key but I extracted using a program called Magical jelly bean key finder. Now, I have the following information on my windows installation

Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1
    Product no.: XXXXXXXX
    Installed from media "OEM."
    Product ID: XXXXX-OEM-XXXXXXXX
    CD Key: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Computer name: XXXXX
    Registered owner: XXXXX
    Registered organization: Microsoft
Now, I want to install linux on my machine and use the current windows in a virtual machine inside the linux host. Is is possible if I completely uninstall this windows of my computer and reinstall the virtual machine with the same key?
I'm not very familiar with this also can someone guide me what are the steps I have to take if this is possible.

    Hi Andre,

Thank you for your answer, but this does not completely answer my question. I also read that OEM installation does not install the same windows on another machine (virtual machine is like different machine even if I do this on the same machine) and installation of the mine is OEM type.

More important still, how install windows in the virtual environment? If I format the computer and install linux, in addition to this install virualbox and install inside windows that use the cd - key and it will work. ? I doubt it because the windows is already activated in this machine.

The extract of the contract (EULA) for Windows 7 and applies to the retail and OEM of Windows 7 versions. So, Yes, you can reinstall it in a Virtual Machine.

Yes, you will need to format the machine under Linux, then reinstall Windows 7 in a computer program virtual suitable as Oracle Virtual Box 4.2, VMWare Player 5.0 or VMWare Workstation. You can then use the product key located on the COA sticker to reactivate the license.

  • Can I use a key to upgrade Windows 7 32 - bit for the upgrade to Vista 64 - bit, 7 64-bit, with a 64-bit upgrade disc?

It's a bit complicated, but I appreciate all help.

    I have the following:
    1. access to a genuine copy of Windows Vista 64-bit (regardless of the version I want) through IEEE Computer Society.
    2. a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit upgrade disc purchased through a program of student software in 2010. Shortly after using the disk and the key, the laptop I was using died due to hardware problems.
    3. a drive to upgrade Windows 7 Professional 32 - bit bought via the same pattern of student software, including an unused key.
Student software system only allows users to buy a copy of each version, so I can't buy it simply another copy of the 64-bit version.
I wonder if it is possible to use the key of the 32-bit version with the version 64-bit upgrade disk to upgrade a 64 bit Windows Vista installation to Windows 7? If this is not the case, unfortunately, I'll be stuck with Vista.

    Hi Paldor

Windows 7 Professional 32 bit product key will attempt to activate the Windows 7 Professional 64 bit installation. The only condition, in this case, is that the (Professional) edition is the same.
