Can satellite L40 - 17 M - I put RAM more then 2 GB of RAM

I used the essential analysis tool and it is said (source of confusion for me!) that my computer has the maximum installed RAM (2 GB), but both slots are empty and recommended that the 2 GB more would be possible.

Any advice would be welcome!

I think you should first check the user manual.
These details are always mentioned in the manual of the user who is always installed on the laptop!

  • Can satellite L40-100 - I switch to Win7 or Win8?

    Hello

I am the owner of a laptop runs on Windows Vista 32-bit.
I noticed that it was possible to support Toshiba Web site to download the drivers for Windows 7
so I guess my computer is compatible.

However, my PC system settings are compatible with Windows 8 according to the microsoft Web site.
But the fact is that the Toshiba Web site provides drivers for windows 8 on my computer.

So my question is: knowing what I said before is it possible to move safely from Vista to Windows 8 without having problems after installation?

    Thanks for help.

Satellite L40 is older machine and certainly not supported for Win8 but Toshiba offers drivers, tools and utilities for Win7.
In my opinion you should use Win7 32 bit about this old piece of hardware. In the past, I have successfully improved several old machines Vista Win7 and all run well and very stable.

I think that Win8 isn't the best option for your Satellite L40.

  • Re: Can Satellite A200-14 - I switch the RAM to 4 GB?

    1. my laptop "Satellite A200-14" series has 2.048 MB RAM. How much does it cost to improve to 4,096 MB RAM?
    2. can you change the RAM yourself?

    Thank you
    Johannes

    Hello!

I put t know how much it costs to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM. This according to the modules that you can buy and where buy you it.
Upgrade the RAM, you need modules with DDR2 (667 MHZ) specification.

And change the RAM is quite easy. Consult your user manual, you can find instructions and pictures how to do this. ;)

  • Re: Can Satellite L30-106 - I switch the RAM to 2 GB?

    Hello
I want to upgrade the Ram in my Toshiba L30-106 running Vista. The vehicle currently has 2 * 512 MB modules. In the specifications it says it can handle maximum 2 GB of Ram. Is this correct?

Can I upgrade using 1 * 2 GB or 2 * 1 GB modules? Dual channel RAM will make a significant difference?

I can say I should use modules DDR2-533 PC4200. I'll use Kingston, but they have Toshiba modules (start with KTT) and regular ones (KVV). It is important that I use?

    Claus

Yes, you can upgrade the Satellite L30 to 2 GB.
In addition, you should buy modules with 1 GB because so you can use dual channel mode. This makes the theoretical specifications a little faster.

For the upgrade, you can buy RAM DDR2-533.
The part number for a 1 GB module is PA3411U-1M1G

  • Can satellite 5110/5100 series - I put the CPU?

Is it possible to upgrade the processor of my satellite 5110, it's a p4 1.8 m and I would put something faster. If anyone knows if the maximum speed may take, and it will have need of what type/model of pentium. I guess intel only at that time did two m mobile processors?
Mine is a '5110' of the Australia.

    Hello

Usually the CPU upgrade is not possible because of the connection to the motherboard. I really don't know the details of your device, but if you have the time you can call the service in your country and pick up some info.

By the way: in case something like this is possible you are able to do it alone?

  • Can satellite 2430-301 - I switch the RAM to 2 GB

    Hello

I am owner of a Toshiba Satellite 2430 301 with 512 MB of RAM. I thought I read that my laptop can support 1 GB only, but I would like to install 2GB.
What is the cause of the restriction, if there are?

In addition, DDR RAM-technology, wouldn't be good of DDR2 modules as well?
(But then, given that the FSB has only 533 MHz, it would be useful anyway...) ?

Thanks for your help in advance,

    M.

Do you really think you can upgrade the RAM to 2 GB on this oldie?
    Forget it!

I think you can use max 1 GB RAM (2 x 512 MB). More is not possible and there is a restriction.

If you n t believe that check your type of chipset and compare the properties of chipset with the Intel page information.

    Welcome them

By the way; you use PC2100 modules

  • Can satellite L40-139 - I install Windows XP

    Hello

I would like to know if I could remove my laptop Vista and install XP Pro Corporate edition.
I would have a problem with the drivers and I will be able to load them down.

    Hello

The XP installation is possible, but Toshiba XP drivers are not available for this model of laptop.
L40-139 belongs to the PSL40E series and the European driver page does not provide the XP driver for this series. Only for the PSL4CE and the PSL48E.

I think you have to collect these XP drivers at your own hand, this means that you must test some drivers in other series of notebook and able to search on some external 3 third-party websites

  • why I can't able to add a disc of more then 256 GB in vSphere?

    Hello

I wanted to add one more drive in one of my win 2003 500 GB VM, but I can't able to create more than 256 GB why?

    What is the solution?

My Infrastructure: 3 ESX server clustered iSCSI volume mounted with 1 TB.

    Please guide.

    Thank you

    Rashid

VMFS datastore is formatted with a block size of 1 MB (default) and supports up to 256 GB of files.

If you want the biggest files you should remove this data store and format as nine with 4 or 8 MB block size (file size maximum of 1 TB or 2 TB). But of course we must backup or migrate all of your virtual machines, because it will delete all the files in the data store.

  • How to upgrade video memory on Satellite L40 - 17R?

I have laptop Toshiba Satellite L40 - 17R with 2 GB RAM and I want to upgade my video memory: 256 MB Max (384MB). How can I do this?

Unfortunately you can not upgrade you RAM physically as your video RAM is just shared memory.

You can try to increase the amount of RAM in the BIOS because the video RAM should be a shared memory. If you can't find some options in the BIOS, that allows to increase the amount of video RAM, then you won´t be able to update...

To learn more about shared memory, please see the following site:
    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Shared_Memory_Architecture

I must also tell you that even if you would be able to increase the amount of graphics memory shared, it won´t affect performance not really since the system RAM is slower then a sort of RAM dedicated.

    Hello!

After the downgrade, you did an update of the BIOS?

There are two available BIOS version: one for Vista and one for XP.
So I have to do an update to XP of the BIOS version.
This BIOS update adds functionality to your system.

  • Satellite L40 - 139 - I want to upgrade the RAM

    Hello
    My laptop is Toshiba Satellite L40 - 139 PSL40E model, operating system Windows XP SP3, 1 024 DDR2 RAM (667 MHz) (512 + 512).

    I want to increase the RAM memory using 2048 DDR2 RAM (1024 + 1024).

Laptop manual can not find if support * _dual-channel memory_ *, which requires a dual-channel-capable motherboard. Theoretically, this technology double data rate of the memory.
Someone has the manual for this laptop motheboard, or may indicate the site for download?

    Apologies for my bad English.
    Thank you.

    Hello!

Satellite L40-139 can be upgraded to 2 GB of RAM. You can buy two modules with 1 GB of capacity with the specifications of DDR2 at 667 MHz.
If you use two modules, they run in dual channel mode.

The manual of the motherboard or repair for Toshiba laptops cannot be downloaded. They are only available if ASP.

  • Re: Satellite L40-143 with 4 GB of Ram is this possible?

HY, my question is very simple.
    Running a Satellite L40 with 4GBRam 2 x 2?
Because there is a note in the manual which only allow this max 2 GB system.
But in some friends my said those old manuals and is not tru.

Thank you very much for your help!

    Hello!

Maybe the modules are not compatible to your laptop.

Have you also tested a RAM?

He would check the modules with a special tool called Memtest86.
With this program you can test if RAM is faulty or not
