  I think you are trying to read too much into that name.  Out of curiosity I googled "amd64".  I suggest you do the same.  It seems that AMD was the first to come out with a game on the x 86 architecture to 64-bit instructions.  Intel had to scramble to follow.  I suspect that the use of AMD64 has started to become a generic name for x 86-64.  If you check the hardware requirements in the Installation Guide, you will see that it does not itself with Intel vs AMD.  At this level, he cares only about 32-bit and 64 - bit.
