Can't make contacts lists in Windows mail.

I recently bought a new computer with Vista and windows mail. I want to set up lists of contacts for email but couldn't find 'new contact group' on the contact toolbar (as described in help "in the toolbar, click New Contact Group, type a name in the group name box and then fill in the boxes on the tab Contact Group...).

RE: New group contact button missing

Open Windows Mail > click Contacts > on this Contacts window, right-click on an open space inside the window > customize this folder > under what kind folder O do you want?, click the pointer on the far right (there is only a single pointer here), click Contacts > OK

Now look, you will see new Contact button group.

    Hello

    You can export the contacts.

  • How to remove 'hidden' contacts that do not appear in my contact list in Windows Mail?

I have a contact in mail. I guess that it was put there by a few emails I inadvertently opened. Anyway when I try to fill in the "to" box on a message that I normally get an AutoComplete list, I put in the first letter of the name, if there are several names starting with the same letter. Now, when I start typing a name with the letter 'L', instead of the 4 names in my contact list that start with 'L', I get the full name of a spammer, let's call him "loser at lumphead dot com. When I went to my list of contacts to remove this stupid I couldn't find this address! So I have 3 questions. Where Mail did in fact raise the file which has the coordinates? How an address to get into the system like that and stand out of the list of contacts? Most important: how to remove a contact 'hidden' like that?

Thank you for your quick response.
No, Shawns response suggested to go to the C:\users\myname\contacts file and delete it from there. I had tried before when I tried to locate the list of contacts somewhere outside Mail (sorry I forgot to mention that). But the contacts Vista file did not show this 'hidden contact' either. But further down the page, I found an answer to a similar problem. Gary van in reply to "re: delete contacts autocomplété" gave this link.

    http://www.Winhelponline.com/articles/264/1/utility-to-clear-recently-used-email-addresses-in-Windows-mail.html

This leads to a file called winmailmru.zip. This tool allowed me to bring up a window showing ALL the contacts which it previously 'hidden', with options to remove them. I selected and deleted. Problem solved.

But I still wonder: where was hiding the contact "hidden"? If it wasn't not in Contacts of Vista directory where Mail was from?  How this winmailmru.exe utility it found? It is also strange that the contact in question seems to have the ability to bypass the selection popup box that shows generally all other contacts beginning with the letter typed and force his way into the 'To' box, excluding the possibility of chooseing another contact. I am happy that my immediate problem is solved, but I wonder if the ability of a person sending a mail to 'hide' a normal contact and overide process in Mail is a security problem or just a nuisence? Anyway, thanks again for putting me on the path to the solution.

Click the To button to the left of the field to reveal all your contacts. Click on one to highlight and Ctrl + A will highlight all. Add the to the field.

You can also hold down the Ctrl key and click on selected addresses, or delete them.

Note that your ISP probably has a recipient limit how much you can sent at the same time.

I want to set up a Contact Group (Mailing list) in Windows mail Vista. I have followed the instructions in the help, but have not found 'new Contact Group' in the toolbar. If anyone can help?

    Hi Suzanne,.

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community!

You have reached the right forum. Let us work as a team and try to solve this problem.

If I understand correctly, you want to create a group list in Windows Mail.

Let us try the following steps:

    Step 1: SFC scanner.

System File Checker (SFC) scan will replace the missing or corrupted system files on your computer.

Use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7 system files:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Step 2: Now, follow the items listed below and see if you are able to find the new Contact Group.

    Manage your contacts:

Create groups of contacts (mailing lists):

  • Print the list of windows mail contacts

I have windows vista. I use windows mail to my email address. I got the House and officde the contact information.
I would like to print a phone list, address labels and set up group for printing lists.
I could do when I used oulook express.  This option has been eliminated.
    How can I do this?

Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail do not have the functionality to produce with their programs mailing labels (just what Kreekanth described above which I don't think that's what you're looking for).  However, you can export list in an Excel spreadsheet as a .csv file and Excel and print the labels.  If you do not have Excel, you can download a free 60-day trial (or usage limit 25) at: http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/default.aspx and then you would need to buy it (and it is quite expensive but I found that I couldn't do without it - right now I'm using the Office Professional 2010 beta version which will be available for almost a year (without deleting my installation 2007).)  Alternatively, you can import it into Microsoft Word to do a mailing, but Excel is easier to work with this type of project.  Here's how to do a mail merge in Word: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294684 (which may be easier to use once the project is completed for future projects involving the same or a similar mailing list).

Alternatively, you can download Open Office (www.openoffice.org) which contains essentially the same applications as Microsoft are free permantently.  It is not quite as robust as Microsoft Office (IMHO), but is still a great product and well worth the download if you do not have Office or are unwilling to pay for it.  The one major drawback to OpenOffice is that it doesn't have an equivalent application for Microsoft Outlook - but you can continue to use Microsoft Mail or Microsoft Live Mail.  You can export the .csv in OpenOffice Calc (equivalent to Excel) file and the labels from there.  You could also import it into writing, Word equivalent to printing the labels of OpenOffice (but Calc is easier to work with this type of project).

    I hope this helps.

    Sorry, you can not.
In Windows Mail, you must click on Contacts in the toolbar when you need to see your list of contacts and it opens in its own window.

    P.S. The terminology...
    Outlook is Microsoft Outlook.
    OE = Outlook Express

  • How can I import my old XP address book to the Contacts list in Windows 7?

I can't import my old xp address book into the new contact list in windows 7.  Is this possible?  Thank you, Käthe

    Hello

Windows in Windows XP address book has been replaced by Windows Contacts in Windows 7.

If you have performed a custom installation of Windows 7, please visit:how restore personal after having performed a custom Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation

To get the address book from Windows XP to Windows 7, you need to export the list of contacts of the Widnows XP computer first and then import the file to Windows 7.  If you want to export the address book from Windows XP and import it into Windows 7, please see the following steps:

    a. launch Outlook Express in Windows XP and click on file > export > address book

    b. export the address book to a text (.csv) file

    c. Select Save the location and all the contact information you want to export, and then click Finish.

To import contacts in Windows 7, go to the link below and follow the steps:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/import-export-or-change-the-format-for-contacts

Note: You may only be able to restore the data from Windows XP to Windows 7 If you have performed a custom installation of Windows 7 without formatting the hard drive. If you have formatted the hard drive during the installation of Windows 7, you cannot restore the data.

I hope this helps. Let us know the results.

    Thank you and best regards,
