Can't see hidden files to delete in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\William\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

C:\Documents and Settings\William\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder there are more than 135,000 files; nearly 2,000 cases and close to 3 GB of data. These files do not display and I can't remove them by deleting temporary Internet files. When I try to see the files to help to locate hidden files, only three very small files appear. How can I delete these files? Can I delete the folder and create a new one?

William

You can also enter your options Internet Explorer (via Control Panel), on the general tab, in the browsing history, there should be a settings button, once there, you should be able to select Show files in the temporary Internet files section. Who will open the file for you and you can do CTRL + A (select all), and then delete.

Some of the files in the folder may be used, and if they are in use, you will not be able to remove them. You will need to know what is their use, cannot be used, then delete them.

"MARGIE" in "C:\Documents and Settings\MARGIE\... is not a"computer name", it's a user"Profile name". Once a user is created and its associated profile, this name cannot be changed directly. The only practical way to change that is to create a new user, copy the data from the user profile of MARGIE in this new user and then delete the profile of MARGIE. To do this, pretend that the "MARGIE" user profile is corrupted and then follow the instructions in the following article:

Hello

Since Windows XP, in the last several versions of Windows, there are many changes for the names and locations of some Windows system folders .

To ensure compatibility with older programs, these older cases have been replaced by The junction Points. A junction Point is designed to redirect programs more alumni who are hard coded to look for the former name of folder for the new file name and the location in Windows.

An example is the C:\Documents and Settings folder. The new name and the location of this folder is C:\Users. In Windows 8, you will see a folder C:\Documents and Settings , but it should be noted that this record contains a shortcut arrow on the folder icon. He identifies it as a junction.

Junction points all than its guarantee of value everyone = access denied.

Note: Do not attempt to modify the security settings on a junction. This can cause programs to stop work and possibly corrupt the file system.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

• Where can I find the Documents and Settings folder or the folder on Vista?

I need to find a Real Player file file so I can delete it, but am unable to find the floder Documents and Settings. I need to delete a file called treestate.dat but am unable to find... Help, please!

In Windows Vista user profiles

In Windows XP, 2000, 2003, user profiles are stored in c:\Documents and Settings. In Windows Vista, the profiles are now stored in c:\Users. You will see a folder c:\Documents and Settings in Windows Explorer in Vista, but you will also notice the shortcut icon on the folder, and you will not be able to access this folder. c:\Documents and Settings is now a junction Point. You can use the random dir command to see where c:\Documents and Settings point to or use the table below.

The following table lists the old profile path and the new path under Windows Vista.

Old path

New path

\Documents and Settings

\Users

\Documents and Settings\Default User or
%LogonServer%\NETLOGON\Default user

\USERS\DEFAULT or
%LogonServer%\NETLOGON\Default

\Documents and Settings\\My Documents

\Users\Public

\Documents and Settings\All Users Menu

\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start menu

Records to take note of here are the folders in the path of all users. Many legacy applications that use outdated methods to solve the system folders, will solve the railways under C:\ProgramData when looking for common places. For example, the joint office can be resolved as C:\ProgramData\Desktop, however; This is actually a point of junction for C:\ProgramData\Users\Public\Desktop. • Why is the 'Documents and Settings' folder hidden and inaccessible?

I used PC backup for backing up my XP files. When I restore the files on my Windows 7 computer, I tried to bring it back to the "C:\Users\name\Desktop\test". There is now a "Documents and Settings" folder hidden and inaccessible in my "C:\Users\name\Desktop\test". How can I view/delete this folder?

Short answer: Because there isn't actually. Please do not try to access it, you will help break your operating system if you try, and you will lose the ability to run several programs or worse.

Why? The tale:
The Documents and Settings folder does not really exist in Windows 7. This is only to fool the bad programs by redirecting to the right place (the Users folder). Apparently he also deceived you. It is not a real issue, do not try to access it.

Or if you prefer, here's the long Version:
First of all, the Documents and Settings folder came into existence in Windows 2000. In order to shorten the path name (there is a limit to how many long letters we) as well as to create other languages of the operating system for use throughout the world, this folder has been renamed a few users in 2006 with the release of Windows Server and Windows Vista.
Programs built the right way, that is not the real name or spelling (or language) of the book by fine user path, because they use the variable %UserProfile%. However, many programs have been built the wrong way. They are absolutely dependent on the existence of a folder called "Documents and Settings", spelled in English. This program will crash if they do not find the file they want. So to keep these plant program, Microsoft has created a record of false (called a junction Point) that redirects these programs on the folder of the user. So if a program think he saved a file in c:\documents and settings\joe\desktop- the file will actually be saved to c:\users\joe\desktop. The program never knows that he cheated.
What you need to do: Go to your Folder Options, tell him to Hide protected operating system files, and then use your computer normally.
• You can delete files in C:/Documents and Settings / < username > / Local Settings/Temp subdir?

I found almost 6 GB of space in C:/Documents and Settings /Settings/Temp categoriy (I have a partitioned drive where C:\ is my system drive), which took me a limit where I can't defragment and things are very slow. If I can delete which could greatly improve things. However could take the space of the other partition and add it to the C:\ partition?

Thank you

Yes, you can delete the files in the Temp directory. Yes, you can merge partitions, but only with the if third-party partitioning software you don't want to start over with a clean install. Before we do partitioning, it would be wise to back up data on external media such as an external USB hard disk, in any case because the things happens.

• OK to delete the files that are: C:/Documents and Settings/rjhirsch (me) / Local Settings/Application Data / identities / {31391EF3-B3AC-4F12-94D8-DC2DA45E9526} / Microsoft/Outlook Express

Good afternoon:

Have recently been spotted by Windows XP Pro disk space on my C drive is low. I reinstalled all the obvious large files (e.g., photos) on an external hard drive. I have drilled down into individual files on the C drive to ensure other potential consumers of space. Found the folder that can be the source.

Last year, I converted from Outlook Express (OE) for Outlook. At this point, I rode on my e-mail and the e-mail folders in Outlook.

I found a file in the following location that seems to contain the OE files. I would like to know if the removal of these files of OE (~8.5 GB) impact my Outlook folder/mail e-mail before I remove them.

The location is: C:/Documents and Settings/rjhirsch (me) / Local Settings/Application Data / identities / {31391EF3-B3AC-4F12-94D8-DC2DA45E9526} / Microsoft/Outlook Express.

The folder contains about 8.5 GB of e-mail to OE folders more of them are dated July/August 2010.

It is safe to assume that when I converted originally these OE e-mail/folders over to Outlook - that Outlook has caught up - and it's OK to delete these files?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers.

Rick

If you do not use OE, then Yes. It will not affect Outlook at all. Open the database messages OE, the folder that you have described, and remove all the dbx files. If you need OE once again, when you open OE, it creates new files dbx for all default folders such as Inbox, sent, etc. items.

Yes, it is completely safe to remove them because they are just useless shortcuts - is useful if you frequently use "Recent Documents" on the Start Menu.

• Files and folders in root appear in my folder of Documents and office

It probably happens on the Windows NT-based versions (has happened to me on a XP PC and a PC in 2000 that I intend to upgrade both of them soon). The files and folders of the program directory (C :) root Windows upward in the office and the folder My Documents. These files are not shortcuts and they show that they are located in the root of the drive, even if they appear on the desktop and My Documents. They can be handled then that mirrored to the root of the drive. I dropped a simple file to the root one test while it appears on the locations and then I deleted the file of the said test from the office and he left root. They don't seem to do anything when I click on them. It is not happened to me before. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this a bug?

That is some progress. Normally the desktop folder works the same way, where he will have a "location" at the top of the Properties tab. This is a feature you'll see normally special "shell folders" as this (shell being the part of the operating system that see you, or the user interface).

If it has lost its distinctive feature, you can usually restore it quickly in the registry.

1. First of all, make sure that you have a folder that is named "Desktop" in your personal folder 'username '. You will set the registry to use this folder as storage of office location.
2. Keep Windows Logo type R to display the run box, type REGEDIT and click OK and give permission to the administrator if necessary.
3. Navigate through the list of files (registry keys) on the left to find this place:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
4. Look for the "Desktop" entry on the right (registry value), and double-click it to change data to be:
%UserProfile%\desktop

The %UserProfile% is a variable that is everywhere where your current profile is stored. Administrators and power users can use it to move their entire profile without having to define all those places individually.

5. Click OK to save it, and then close the registry editor.
6. Lot of windows completely and reconnect of re - initialize your user profiles and folder locations. Or just restart your computer, either way :)

At this point, right click and properties of the desktop folder should now have the expected location tab (let me know if not).

If you ever want to move these places, a little advice: make sure that you have specified a folder name. In other words, do not place your Documents to store in just the G: drive. Instead, create a folder on the target drive and don't forget in the location (such as G:\Docs). One last thing: don't try to define both 'special' folders to be stored at the same single physical location (do not set two in the same place).

Here is a picture of this registry on Windows 10 location, but these steps are the same, all the way back to Windows 2000 (maybe sooner).

Let me know how it goes, I hope that he gets all cleared up.

How do I do that?

N ° don't get rid of one of these data structures, or later, you'll be sorry.

For everyday use, you should use the profile of 'owner '. All your documents, music, images and other data must be different subdirectories to the title of owner.

The administrator is a built-in account for emergency use administrator privileges (for example, if your daily profile becomes corrupted). Probably, you don't see administrator on the Welcome screen.

Every user is an account that is used to share data between different users. If there is only a single user defined on your computer, there should be very little in every user account in the "My Documents" of this profile part, but some applications that you have installed may have placed hidden files in different folders in the profile all users.

Default user is a model that is used to create new user profiles.

If you are interested in which is placed on your hard drive, download and run JDiskReport.

If you fear that you progress low hard drive space, there are a few things you can do, but all of them are essentially temporary measures. If you're really under out of space on your hard drive, you can buy a bigger hard drive.

Run Disk Cleanup (start > run > cleanmgr.exe > OK)
