Cannot access a shared folder on the network of the virtual machine

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I'll provide my contact information and appreciate the help.

I have Windows 7 (32 bit) on the desktop connected to Windows Vista Home Premium (64) on laptop via the cable network. On laptop, I am running XP Pro SP3 on a virtual machine. While I can access a shared folder on the desktop via the laptop, in the virtual when I go to the computers in the workgroup, and even if I see the same files and printers shared on the laptop, when I click on one of them, I get a message that
Desktop\Documents is not accessible. In the virtual, I have connected network bridged with replication verified physical network connection status. On the desktop and portable (host), I can access folders in the virtual (name-letters and numbers). The shared folder on the desktop is shared to everyone. What Miss me?

I'm having a problem.

I have a small network in my house consists of three computers. One is running XP, it has Vista Home Premium, and it has Windows 7 Home Premium. I usually use wireless networks, but I have the same problem if I use wired connections through my router.

All three computers can see each other when I display the network on each. I can ping each computer from other computers. The problem is that when I try to access a shared folder on the Windows 7 computer from the Vista computer, I get an error window popping up that says:

\\computer-name is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network location cannot be reached. For more information about network troubleshooting, see Windows Help.

I can get in the same shared folder on the XP computer. I also have to shared folders on the XP computer Vista computer.

I can also get to the shared folders on the XP and Vista computers on the Windows 7 computer.

The only problem is learning to the shared folder on the Windows 7 computer Vista computer.

The folder on the Windows 7 computer is configured to be shared by everyone. Password sharing is disabled on all three computers.

Any help would be appreciated. If there is more information, I can give you, let me know.

I have a very strange problem.

I have a home network with 4 computers.

I can share files from any computer to the other.

Recently, I bought a new laptop Lenovo E530 in with Windows 7 Professional installed on it.

The problem is that I can't access any shared folder on my home network by '\\com-name '.

I cannot yet access the folders on the computer that is shared from the inside, by specifying there name with the prefix "\".

However, I can ping or even make remote desktop on other computers on my network.

I can also access shared folders on my Windows 7 Professional from other computers.

Looks like there is something wrong with the configuration of my OS from Windows 7 Professional blocking access to any shared folder on my network.

I get the following error message:

Windows cannot access \\comp-name

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, it could...

Error code: 0 x 80070035

The network path was not found.

I tried to use the button to diagnose, but without success.

If the portion of the machine has activated - Simple file sharing (i.e. it is XP Home or it is XP Pro with Simple (default) file sharing) - while all file sharing connections authenticate as user 'guest '. It will not matter what username / password you provide, it will attempt to authenticate as 'guest '. If the guest user has received a password or the guest account is not active, you will experience the symptoms you describe.

If the serving machine running XP Pro and Simple file sharing is disabled, then you should be able to connect by specifying the user as computer\user and the password to connect. To turn off Simple file sharing:

Greetings,
I installed WIn7 - 64 bit host system, WS8 and there seems to be a very nice and high quality configuration. I am very happy.
There is a shared VM and it's a Setup 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 Server functioning as a base configuration LAMP for some basic web applications, etc..
I was unable to find the settings to control the behavior of the VM shared with the system that hosts stop. When I stop the host system, I believe that the common VM is off tension or stop gracefully, I don't know who. What I like best is for the shared VM will not apply instead. The reason is that starting the virtual machine is a bit complicated and requires manual intervention. Whereas, if it is stopped since a State suspended without manual intervention is necessary.
I found that if there is a loss of power, I can hibernate the host system in time before my battery runs out. Resuming the host hibernate system works correctly and the VM shared within WS8 is back to its previous functional State.
It would be nice and helpful being able to stop or restart the host system and know that the shared virtual machine has been automatically suspended. So now I have to log on to the user account from the host system and open WS8 and manually suspend the virtual machine before you stop or restart the host system.
Is there a way to have the shared VM automatically suspended when the host system is stop?

You can configure the stop action by editing the following file:

%ProgramData%\VMware\hostd\vmAutoStart.XML

If you want to configure the action stop for all virtual machines, find the section of under the section. Change it on hold

If you want to change the action stop for only this one machine virtual, you must first configure this shared VM to be started automatically (in WS, right-click on the item 'VMs shared' in the library, select "manage computers virtual auto-start '). After doing this, manually change the vmAutoStart.xml. Find the entry for the virtual machine in the section (if you have more than one computer configured to autostart virtual, it will take some more digging to understand what VM to change). Change the entry for this virtual machine to hang.

Save the file. Reboot the host (not auto-start power actions are only made when the host is restarted). Now when stop you the host, WS should suspend the VM (s)

As always, manually edit the configuration files is not considered supported its use. Save the file before you edit. Adjust at your own risk.

Add just like a new data store.

Login to your web access, select your host (not the virtual machines) in the left menu.

You should see a link on the right side with "Add data store", give it a name of store and add the directory.

Now, you can add a virtual machine to this place.

When I try to share with its UNC address \\server\sharefolder a folder, I get a sayinng error message "\\server\sharefolder is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. A device attached to the system is not functional. "When I try to access the folder shared by its IP address, I get the same error. But if I have mapped to the shared folder as a network drive, there will be no problem even though I have another question that I describe in my previous post. If I try to browse the shared folder of a XP machine I'm not one of the mentioned problems. The workstation and server that I'm talking about are all members of an Active Directory domain. Anyboy can help me solve the problem?

Scan cannot access a shared folder on 10.11.5

I shared a folder on OSX 10.11.5. The permissions are correct. I can access the share from a Windows machine (he asks credentials and is REALLY slow to display files), but when I try to scan a document to sharing it errors every time. It worked until recently. I'm 100% sure that the credentials on the scanner are correct.

Just so there is no confusion I created an account on my scanner on a network (which is on the same subnet) with the same references as those of a user on the OSX machine. The sharing is visible and accessible in writing from a Windows machine. When I scan from the scanner (A Konika Minolta Bizhub) it says "error: unable to connect to the server." This isn't a matter of connection/permissions because when I change the credentials, I get a different error message.

Any ideas?

So you're probably aware that Apple has changed the version of SMB used 10.7 and later and as a result many multifunctional no longer able to scan to a share on the Mac via SMB. I know that KM has released a fix for some of their machines that made this work again. Since you mention work recently, I assumed that it was a Mac OS x 10.11.x. Is this correct?

If Yes, then on the KM, you can navigate to sharing Mac instead of using the address book entry? If you can, and then using this function, you should see the Mac and when you select it, you should get a prompt to authenticate. If you specify the account name on the Mac, that needs to be enabled via system preferences > sharing > file sharing > Options > Windows, then the password file sharing, is the shared folder appears? You get an error at this stage, or when you first select the Mac?

Cannot access a shared folder

I have a network that uses a multude of different types of computers with different operating system, but most of the positions are Win XP or Win 7. I am able to access a drive on the part of all but one. The error I get is "the specified network name is no longer available." I don't know that the problem is with this post to work. I have it plugged into a port that is well known on the switch and had the same problem. Also, I took a well known computer and added to the port that the computer problem was related to and was able to open sharing.

There is no unusual entries in the event logs. Other troubleshooting steps: update drivers NETWORK adapter and the Bios as described in the troubleshooting guide. Also, I tried to connect using different accouts, including those with local administrator permissions. The computer is Windows XP Pro, 32-bit

Any ideas of what to check next would be greatly appreciated.

XP cannot access Vista shared folder

When you try to open or explore shared computer to Vista, XP used to have a pop up to enter the user name and password. Now, it displays the files when you click Open or explore but access is denied to one of the folders. How can I get that back to ask for name of user and password? I can access the folder of my Vista laptop (there the pop-up to enter credentials).

I went back in the folder of Vista I have tried to share and added two admin (only two users) users with full control permissions. All of a sudden I could enter the folder on my XP computer. It does not always ask for credentials, but I can get to the files I need too. I guess that the credentials are stored somewhere on the XP computer and that is why the pop for the user name and password is not displayed? Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

Here's my problem:
One day my VM was hanged, and I tried to restart.
After the reboot, it can be turn on. And I tried to remove the inventory and to recreate the virtual machine.
However, I can't find the. VMX file in the data store.
So I tried to create a new virtual machine and put the files in this folder, but it can also work.

According to the latest vmware.log file, you have tried to access one of the files base/flat with a wrong header file (40 GB)! This hopefully not bad data on the virtual disk. In any case, I've recreated the missing files (see attachment), so you should be able to redo the work of the virtual machine. Because the vmware.log file did not help, I've recreated the instant chain according to the timestamps of the delta file.

Please follow it below mentioned steps exactly to avoid problems in case something does not work as expacted:
- Make sure the flat files as well as files 2 6 delta are still in place (not renamed,...)
- remove the virtual machine from the inventory of the host (right-click-> "Remove from inventory") ESXi
- delete the temporary/second .vmx unless there is a special need for it
- Download the files from the .zip file in the folder of the virtual machine on the data store
- Click right newly downloaded virtual machine's .vmx file and choose "add to the inventory.
- create a new snapshot (this is important!)
- Turn on the virtual machine
If something is not or you have questions, please send back before moving on to the other steps.

If everything works as expected you should consider the 'Delete All' snapshots in snapshot Manager. This will release not only almost 200 GB of disk space, but can also improve the performance of the virtual machine. Because the size of the snapshot, remove snapshots may take some time, probably in hours!)

Unable to start the virtual machine after Migration - ESXi hosts

Last night I wanted to move a virtual machine to a host of test to a production cluster. All hosts (test and production) have shared access to the same LUN, so I usually am able to simply remove the virtual machines of the inventory in the test environment and add them to the production environment by accessing the .vmx on the data store file. Two of the 3 hosts migrate perfectly and are running in the production environment. However, the third server, while the migration starts.
First he gave me errors that it was missing some files. The only thing I did was different to rename the folder for the virtual machine on the data store. It was called 'New Virtual Machine' for a reason, so I renamed it to "Antivirus." However, something strange happened. Instead of renaming the folder, it seems was created a new folder named "Antivirus" and the old folder 'New Virtual Machine' was still there. In addition, the renamed folder 'Antivirus' had only SOME of the files needed. So I just copied from the old folder in the folder "Antivirus" and he hung up the virtual disk of 20 GB file. So I closed the VI client and checked the vdmk 20 GB folder and back this morning is in the folder with other files. However, when I try to start the virtual machine, I get the "cannot access a file because it is locked" error message.
I've done some detective and I noticed that in my second datastore where was the other folder vdmk, the file was now .40kB in size. Looks like I've lost my other vdmk folder. What happens here?

It looks that the virtual machine was still running when you tried to change the name, so the old folder could not be renamed because of the lock. That's why a new folder has been created instead, and why your vm hung on the vmdk file until the lock has been released. Don't know what happened to the 2nd vmdk file, but the file vmware.log in virtual machine directory must have some info as to why does not start the virtual machine. If the 2nd vmdk is gone, this might be a reason.

Unable to connect to the virtual machine after they are created

I installed VMware view and connected to my server Vcenter. Composer, I installed the server vcenter and View manager recognizes it.
I created a virtual Windows Vista machine, is joined to the domain and instant, it.
I then created a persistent office pool and allowed users to access. I can see the virtual machine created the VCenter

Go to the desktop the pool in view Administrator resources and check the status, it should say "Ready". If this is not the one usually means that there is something blocking the port 4001 of the agent on the view connection server. I got this when deploying a pool on a different subnet and there is a network between the areas of the network firewall. The Vista firewall can sometimes be reset on the deployed virtual check computer so who has not been reactivated and adjust the GPO if necessary.

Your virtual machine has an advanced configuration option that will remove the error messages, which would make things a bit confusing. Your first priority should be to enable this option, unless you have a very good reason to need to remove the error messages.

Close VMware workstation. Navigate to the folder of the virtual machine (E:\SOASTA\CloudTest Lite.vmwarevm) and search for the configuration of the virtual machine (CloudTest Lite.vmx) file. (You may have to configure Windows Explorer to show file extensions.) Open it in Notepad or your favorite text editor. Find the line that says:

msg.autoAnswer = 'TRUE '.

and remove this line. Save the file and quit Notepad.

Who is will fix the immediate problem, but he should at least allow VMware Player to show you an error message explaining why he wasn't. If you turn on the virtual machine now, you should see the error:

So, to fix the problem, you can use the player to change the settings of the virtual machine. Choose the virtual hard disk to IDE 0:1 (the one with the name of the disk file virtual 2.vmdk), click on the Advanced... button in the bottom right and change the virtual device node of IDE 0:1 to IDE 0:0. Save the configuration and power on the virtual machine.
