  • FAT32 formatting for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista

How to format FAT32 file system for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista?

    Hi MVRMVR,

Windows will work generally only format a drive in FAT 32 if it has a capacity of 32GB, no more. To format in FAT32, Yes, would need to create multiple partitions. This, of course, you don't want to do.

I have not tried to format a large drive in FAT 32 but I guess that any third-party partitioning software (Acronis, Paragon etc.) would be able to do it without any problem. Alternatively you can do it from the Windows command prompt. For more details, see the link below:

  • Refusal of the WORKSTATION to access external hard drive window

    Hello

I can't access an external hard drive (WD My Book Home Edition). The problem happened when I disconnected my external drive from my Win XP Pro computer and plugged into another Win XP Home computer that had another WD external drive attached to it. Both my drive ext as wel as the other disk ext became inaccessible. I disconnected my 2nd computer ext drive and connected to computer Win XP pro that I always use. However even though my computer recognizes the drive I have noticed that the icon WD changed to a regular folder icon and whenever I try to open it, it says drive H is inaccessible. I also noticed that the folder icon was the same as the 2nd ext drive connected to the computer Win XP Home. I tried the microsoft bulletin:
"This article describes how to capture a file or folder to which you are denied.
I décliqués the "simplified" sharing and set permissions on a shared folder. "" After that it gives information about the ownership of the folder as follows:
To take ownership of a folder, follow these steps: right - click the folder you want to take control and then click Properties.
    1. Click on the Security tab, and then click OK in the security message (if one appears).
    2. Click Advanced, and then click the owner tab.
    3. In the name list, click on your user name , or click on administrator , if you are logged in as administrator, or click the Administrators group. If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the check box Replace owner of subcontainers and objects.
    4. Click OKand then click Yes when you receive the following message is displayed:
You are not allowed to read the contents of the directory folder name . Do you want to replace the the directory permissions with permissions granting you full control?

All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.

Note folder name is the name of the folder you want to take charge.

    5. Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.
I can not follow these directions as I do not have a visible security tab. I was able to save things to my ext drive but cannot access it from the my computer window. I am therefore able to see the contents of the disc in the 'SAVE AS' window. Given that I'm not very good at the computer stuff can someone give me step by step instructions on how to access my drive hard Ext. window "WORKSTATION". Thank you in advance.

  • Cannot load external hard drive .itl file

I'm trying to migrate my itunes to an external HD to new computer, Windows 10.

The old computer had reached a miserable end of life due to obsolescence and lack of resources.

For example, shortly before he died, I thought how to move all files including the media and the. ITL and the. XML for the EHD files.

It seems that this may have complicated problems for the current process.

The former. ITL file is there and intact. I try to IMPORT PLAYLIST, which is the closest thing to what I think I need, and it says that the file cannot be imported because it doesn't seem to be a valid exported file.

I try to import the .xml and it is said that some of the songs in the Itunes music library file were imported not because they are not found. It means everything.

I tried to hold the ALT key and open Itunes, as seen somewhere, but it's apparently a MAC function only. Windows opens a properties box, will not open the program and allow selection of the library as described.

I also just tried dragging the .itl file itunes such as discussed in migrating to a new computer, but appears not to work either.

If the old computer worked in anyway I will try to export the file. But alas, this is not an option.

I currently complete my collection, but any piece of data has disappeared. I would really like to return?

    Thanks for nothing.

    Frank

Hold down the SHIFT key while you start iTunes.  When you arrive it is fast:

Click choose a library... then navigate to and select the iTunes Library (.itl file) hard disk external.  This is the only way to get iTunes to use a specific library - import, a double click, etc. have no effect.  Once you've done this iTunes will continue to use the library selected (without having to use the SHIFT-Start option) so that the external hard drive is connected and its drive letter does not change.

You may need to check the layout of your iTunes library on the external HARD disk is correct - it should be like this:

More specifically, the iTunes Library.itl file should be in the folder that contains the iTunes Media folder.  See tips to the user of turingtest2 on do a split cell library for more information.

  • Cannot find external hard drives - Windows XP Media Center

I just got a new external HDD two days ago in the case where my old drive never fails. I have connected both to my laptop and copy all my old files from the old drive to the new. Yesterday, I clicked on 'Stop' under 'Remove hardware safely', and both readers suddenly stopped being recognized by my computer. When I plug in, they light up and run, but their records are not displayed in my computer. I don't get any error message (or any kind of message), but they always show upward under Device Manager. I tried to move the USB cables, restarted my computer, update device drivers, do a system restore and run a virus scan (some files on my drive C: disappeared recently, however, the scanner found nothing). I also tried to attach external hard drives to other computers, but they are still not recognized. Please help - I have files that cannot be replaced and the new cost of drive hard $100, and I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to get a replacement without warranty or invoice.

Hard drives not recognized in all other computers as well? There lies the problem.

Try to connect to some other computers (XP, Vista or 7) and see if the problem repeats.

If so, your disks are dead (because no computers detect them).

Download and run the utility to diagnoses of the Web site of the manufacturer of the hard disk to check for disk errors.

    Hi Itay,

Thanks for posting on Microsoft Community.

I understand that you get this error "the application \Device\HarddiskVolume4\Windows\System32\svchost.exe prevents this device to be stopped. Close the application and then try to stop the device again. "Whenever you try to eject the external hard drive.

You can try the suggestions below and check if it helps.

    1. Download Process Explorer from the link below http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653
    2. Click search, find handle or DLL (Dynamic Link Library) in the tool menu.
    3. Type the drive letter of the USB device in the handle or DLL substring text box and press the search button.
    4. Find the process and its PID (process identifier) in the following box.

I'm trying to access a hard drive using Windows XP on a portable computer that uses Windows 7. I continue to turn in "inaccessible" and "you don't have the required permissions. • External hard drive issues with Vista

Hi - I have a WD MyBook external hard drive with all my music and pictures on it. Today, when I hung it, my computer didn't recognize it. I have had this problem before and finally fixed by trying all my USB drives until one worked.

This time, I kept getting a message that the driver (or player?) had malfunctioned. I've tried the drive on another computer and it worked fine.
I went back to mine, it will appear in my computer, open, all records, finally got, but each folder was empty! Back to the other computer - everything was there and very well. Back to the mine - recognized her immediately but said there are mistakes that had to be fixed, ran the scan suggested, open upward, all records, everything here too. Yay!
Go to open iTunes, can't find my library. Back to My Computer, suddenly, everything in the drive disappeared again! Even the main issues.
Help! I am a total novice with the computer hardware. I tried Googling this but none of the ideas worked. Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi midwestgirl80,

To resolve this problem, delete the UpperFilters registry value and the LowerFilters registry value. These values may cause access problems. To do this, follow these steps:

Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
