Cannot Change The License server on server VC2.5

Hi all

I looked around these forums but couldn't find a solution for my prob.

Our license server was wiped out by a member of our team at the time, but was replaced by another and all licenses we are reissued for the relevant esx servers.

recently, we have added two new esx servers allowing it added ok.

But when I try to add them to the VC, I said that there are not enough licenses available. I look on the license server and not lacking.

some still study showed that the VC still points to the old license server (there is not) and not the new licenserver...

I tried to change that [email protected] but the message warns me that there is no license no s on this server

I telneted to the license server and can connect, and all the esx servers are picking up the license there from there.

How can I get the Victoria Cross to licens to the new server?

Restart your virtual Center service.  If there is a license on the vc server, the old server, make sure that all of these services are stopped.  You plug your ESX host directly, or pass vCenter to configure licensing it?

  • Cannot change the license OEM keys in XP Pro

I installed XP Pro on a laptop of Levovo using Lenovo recovery media, no tricks all 100% according to the rules. Now, I want to change the license key of the OEM key to our valid XP Pro volume license key.and get the incorrect product key. We have a handful of laptops that need XP and they get to slow down and want to reload with Lenovo XP.

You * may * be able to use the product key update tool - it usually works the other way around (from Volume to the retail/OEM), but it can also act the way you want.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-GB/Windows/help/genuine/product-key

Normally, however, you must install a Volume with Volume media license - especially in WIn XP.

Also note that a Volume license can only upgrade a valid original OS - Win XP Pro in this case.

Its a known problem with the 5.1 version of ESXi.

  • Virtual Server Center down and as its also the license server, it cannot start

I have the virtual center server which is also the license as a virtual machine server. We had problems with the SAN today and decided to move this server to local storage in the case of other issues during the weekend, until we can diagnose/solve the problems of SAN. However, it will not start back up to stop the virtual machine to move (no installation storage vmotion again) and complains that cannot see the license server, the license server's so how can we start it?

I tested stop this server before and to work around the problem, then we have just activated evaluation mode, the server restarted, and he returned to the license server mode when it was high, but he used to do that now and I can not start any vm at all and since most of them failed because of problems with SAN storage I need to get this resolved as soon as possible. The difference between when we tested before and now 4 months and update 3 has been applied recently.

How do I start the server in its current or is configuration - it is no longer possible to use the evaluation mode and we do the licensing of other words, IE non-virtual?

    ......

I managed to start the server using VM Player running in another physical server, but this is not an ideal long-term solution, but out me an affair until we solve this problem.

Many people run in this mode.

As a backup, just getting up an another license server using your existing key.  Point the ESX host with virtual machine on it to the 'temp' license server by connecting to the host ESX directly with the VI Client.

    Back up the virtual machine.

Change license server address that you modified on the back of ESX host.

  • How can I change the license to another host?

    Hello

I am replacing a host, but cannot change the license to the new host.

The ability to change the license on the vCenter (administration, licenses, manage vsphere licenses) appears dimmed (unavailable).

All the licenses that I own are associated with former guests. I can't add new hosts because all licenses associated with the former hosts. I removed the host the vCenter, but the license is always affected.

How can I change the license of a former host (which no longer use) by the new host?

    Thank you!

As mentioned earlier, it should actually take a few minutes, so with the two days, you've already waited, there seems to be something wrong. Please take a look at KB VMware: vCenter Server 6.0 incorrectly states the amount of licenses in use by the ESXi host to see if this helps you to identify/solve the problem. In the case where you don't consider opening a case of pension with VMware.

  • The former "cannot change the power state of virtual machine: the process has exited with an error: end of the error message" thing again (Fedora 8/Server 1.08)

OK, this problem beautifully undescriptive I've seen caused by what seems to be dozens of things happening for me.

I made the mistake of horrible update my FC8 kernel to the latest one (2.6.26.8 - 57.fc8).  Mind you, that's all that's changed.  It was with a 1.06 server with happiness and perfectly good computers running virtual in use before the upgrade.

After the new kernel and reboot, I had to rebuild vmmod.  I had to get a fix of any - any later that I used with my previous kernel (116 does not solve the problem of compiling) so I used all-any117d.  Update like a champion.

Try to turn on a VM and Ihanta!, the above error.

    Nothing else was changed.

I tried the upgrade to VMware Server 1.08.  Used all-new any117d - update OK.

    Error again.

I have re-run the compilation, this time to say 'yes' to what the installation script to "adjust the permissions of all virtual machines in xxxlist" or whatnot.

    Error again.

  • Cannot power on the license server

    Hello

Busted a physical machine containing several virtual methods, including the license server. Now, I want to run several virtual machines, starting with the license server, but I got an error message: "there are not enough licenses to complete this operation." Help, please!

Evaluation mode is not an option.

    Thanks in advance,

    Gerard

You can create a new license server (the installation file are on the CD of vCenter and VMware download site).

Place the file lic (get it from the backup of the old server or Web portal of licenses).

And point each ESX to the new license server.

  • License for SRM on D drive file will not be perceived by the license server

    Hello comrade VMers...

One of our license server is not see the SRM license file. We dropped in the folder with all our other license files. We did the troubleshooting normal as, adding the license file with file license vmware tools, restart the license server service and restart the vmware virtual center server service.

Does anyone know if the license server has a requirement on drive c for MRS?

    Thank you

    VIC

If you use "VMware License Server Tools" and look at the "Services Config" tab, you can see 'Path to the license file"set to 'C:\Program VMware license Server\Licenses'. If this is the case, change the location to match the location of your SRM (and VC) licensing files and restart the service.

When you look in the Administration/Licensing under Virtual Infrastructure Client tab, you should see "SRM" listed under the features under license.

  • Changing the DNS server for ESX hosts?

Our network administrator will change the IP address of the DNS server.  In this way, we will change those corresponding to ESX hosts.

    We would like to know

    (1) can we change the DNS server on execution of the ESX hosts without going into maintenance mode?

    (2) under what circumstances the ESX host will do use DNS servers?

    (3) memory, we should add all the IP addresses of ESX host in the hosts file in the Service Console, where is this hosts file located at?

    Thank you

    Tony,

Use "service network restart" command to restart the network service

    Do not forget also that...

Very dependent on DNS HA, HA will not work without the correct DNS configuration. The servers ESX and vCenter server must be able to resolve the name (FQDN full) / IPs in both feel to get a working HA.

  • Number of CPU of the license server to the servers of a socket

I searched the community but found no solution or similar results. Maybe it's so trivial...

So the question is on the (Macrovision FlexLM) license server and how this licensing system for guests.

We use vCenter Server v2.5 3 update and license server is running on the same hardware. Are all ESX v3.5 hosts and update levels varies between 2 update and update 4. In this thread (Enterprise license) David Weinstein said with an example how many CPU is consumed from the license server.

You can use 16 CPU Enterprise License 'package' in different ways:

    • 2 servers with 8 CPU sockets populated = 2 * 8 = 16 CPU of the license server

    • 4 servers with 4 CPU sockets populated = 4 * 4 = 16 CPU of the license server

    • 8 servers with 2 CPU sockets populated = 8 * 2 = 16 CPU of the license server

Or you can do any combination of fill 16 CPU:

    • 1 server with 4-socket full CPU + 1 server with 8 sockets populated CPU + 2 servers with 2 sockets populated CPU = 484 = 16 CPU of the license server

So far, everything is correct and understandable, but when you add a server socket for the things the soup becomes interesting. Servers a socket use only 1 CPU since the license server and which is correct from the point of view License Manager server.

    QUESTION (S):

    1. Is an enterprise license for the ESX (up to two CPU sockets) the right to split into two servers a socket?

    2. In the opposite case and an enterprise license for ESX (up to two CPU sockets) is related to a single physical host and there is a socket server, how the license server should deliver CPU from the pool of license? CPU in a relationship?

    3. A good way to request a report where the license server shipped number of CPU's match with one, two, four or eight socket servers? Or is it all good 3rd third-party tool for that?

  • Stuck to the configuration of the license server to the virtual Center

    Hi all

I tried to configure VI3 on my laptop and did almost all the configurations below

I created as a result of VM on my laptop on Vmware workstation 6.5

    -2 Esx 3.5 Server

    -1 open run VM SAN

    -Center Virtual Win2k3 VM

Everything is going well so far the esx servers start in 5 minutes and SAN targets are visible. But I don't see the Vmotion option on my virtual Center Server (probably because I n, t configured license server).

I try to add the file licesnse to the file licsencse on the server of VMware, but still no help. I din, t get any mail from vmware with licenses in so attachment.

anyidea what can be done here?

    Thanks in advance

    Anuj

    Hello

Okay, I think that the license server is already there.

    is how to enable vmotion

in each of your esx hosts

go to the tab slot-> choose the networking-> click Properties of the vSwitch that is connected to your network vmotion (it must be a network of vmkernal)-> select the vmotion network in the new window and click on edit-> click on the box where it says enable vmotion.

    do this for both servers.
