Cannot delete video files. Error "Destination folder access denied".

Cannot delete files on Vista Ultimate vidoe as owner/administrator.

I am the owner and administrator of my laptop and a single user. I am running Vista Ultimate. I have video files, that I can't remove. In the Properties window, it says I have full access and permissions for the files and folders. However, I get the message "Destination folder access denied."  Or "you must be authorized to perform this action." I get the window with the options RETRY or CANCEL. So boring. Any help would be great. I'm not a pro with computers, but know my way around the essentials. Step by step would be great. Thank you!

Hi David,

·         What is the location of these files?

Try the following.

Method 1: Check if you can change the location of the files and then remove them.

Method 2: Start the computer in safe mode and try to delete the files.

Method 3: Check to see if this article helps you.

  • Destination folder access denied. You need permission to perform this action.

OK, I'm absolutely sick freaking that. I am logged on as administrator, and there are some files that I can't remove everything. I get the message "Destination folder access denied you need permission to perform this action."

Why the hell do I need permission? I am an administrator and it's MY computer!

I tried to fix this for hours now, searching through the forums looking for answers, trying all the things that people give to think (as the change of ownership of the files - didn't work).

I tried to turn of UAC, but it tells me that I have to restart, which I do, but then when the computer turns UAC turns on again!

Gaaaah! It's driving me crazy - I'm trying to delete files and folders that I need not, they take up valuable space and they have nothing to do with the functioning of the system.

Now I know why everyone hates on Vista.

A lot of files and folders in Vista are unable even to administrators (unlike was the case with XP).  To remove a file, you need all rights to him and maybe same property (and these can be inherited from parent folders or their parent folders is not just a simple matter to change the permissions of the file - unless you remove the inheritance rights in the section advanced as well).  It has nothing to do with YOUR computer, it has to do with the protection of the system of files to be modified, moved, deleted or otherwise modified by people who do not really know what they're doing and causing significant damage. There are places called junction pointshttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb968829 (VS.85) .aspx which should NOT be accessed by anyone for any reason for example.  Now there are places in your own profile which you denied access.  That's how it works on Vista (and I don't think it's different in Windows 7).

If you think you should have access to delete the file and know that it will cause no harm, so some information here about obtaining permissions (you want full rights for yourself) and appropriate (not always required but sometimes useful).  Being the owner does not necessarily give you the permissions of all rights - sometimes, you need to do both.  Don't forget to go to the Advanced section to check the rights listed there as well as on the home page - they can block you all also if you don't fix them as well.

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To solve this problem with folders, folders takeownership or the reader (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

If this does not work, try to use one of the following free products to remove the file/folder.  Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when the normal functions to remove Vista not work properly - but it helps if troubleshoot you permission first (even those programs may not work to override only).

    I hope this helps.

  • Destination folder access denied

Background.  I recently bought a new cell phone. It came with the dropbox app to move photos and videos taken with the phone to a PC.  I've installed dropbox on my PC and photo & video transfers started without problem. I run Windows Vista Ultimate x 64 operating system. I am the only user and the administrator of the machine.

Today, I received an alert of dropbox on my PC telling me I had run out of disk space, and dropbox will not sync until I had released sufficient disk space. I went in my camera under dropbox downloads folder and started to remove. No problem delete pictures, but could not remove the videos in the folder. Any attempt to remove result in destination folder access denied. I right click Properties for the folder and the files that will not delete are showing I own and have full control.

Need help remove the videos downloaded so I can solve the issue of disk space low on my PC.

    Hello Andrew,.

Thanks for posting your question on the forum of the Microsoft community.

I would like to know some information about the problem so that we can help you better.

When exactly you receive error message "destination folder access denied"? It's when you try to add or to save any file to external hard drive?

This problem may occur due to lack of permissions on the appropriate folders.

Please refer to the suggestions of Kia Zhi Tang replied on 1 January 2010 and check if that helps.

  • Destination folder access denied when deleting the .mp4 files

HI its as says, I can't delete the .mp4 files, I followed ALL (and I say all possible solutions, I can find online) solutions step by step and still it is messed up, I can not delete a single .mp4 files, I am the administrator, .mp4 files are all created by I, me and me and no one Since I'm the only user of this computer and I have to activate all possible permissions. What should I do next? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Then without being able to see your computer, I am of ideas. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to help you. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

Hi, its ok if you ran out of ideas, but I still have to thank you for your help because I learned some new things myself. The only solution I've found to remove my video files .mp4 without having to reboot in safe mode is to use unlocker software to help remove my .mp4 files, so far it has been helpful and has not posed no problem to my computer.  I changed to windows 7 since then, and there have not been problems with the far .mp4 files. Thank you again once, appreciate the help you gave. ^ ^

  • Cannot delete a file in a folder that I can see his name in the list of directories

    Help

I can't delete a file that I can see in a folder and a list of directories of files.

The name of the file is "000" without visible extension.  Don't know if there is a hidden extension, but it isn't.

I went into the same folder using the "Command prompt" window

However, to enumerate the files in the command prompt window, the file name is not visible, but the forlder report indicates that there is a file whose size is 15 bytes.

The file is not readable in a normal DOS window or text editor, which means that a file such as 'Crimson Editor' Editor opens the file, but there is no visible ASCII character.

How can I delete this file?

It is a virus, and if so, how can I delete?

    Best regards, Roy

  • Denied destination folder access (EA 6500)

I have an EA6500 with a hard drive connected to the USB port. When I try to copy a file to the drive VIA the network on my computer folder, it says "Destination folder, access denied, you have Permision to perform this Action." I used to be able to copy files to the disc, so I don't know that it is just a setting on the router or something. Any idea?

    Thank you

Reset your router can be addressed. Note that this will eliminate the actions that you have configured previously (if any) that it will set the router to the factory settings. For good measure, safely remove your network drive before you perform a reset. You can also save a backup of your current router configuration file before you do a reset. Use the saved file to restore your settings from easy reconfiguration.

If you have not upgraded to the latest firmware, go ahead and do it. Go to the Page in Support of EA6500 for the latest version.

  • denied destination folder access - authorization to administrator?

I just bought a new computer and new for WIndows 7, so sorry if this is a stupid question

I'm trying to copy files from one external hard drive to another to save them. WIndows 7 tells me that the destination folder access denied, and I need administrator permission to copy to this folder. I click on 'Continue' and then... nothing happens. I have my computer and I am the only user of it. Who is the administrator? How can I get permission? And why do I need?

    Hello

Did you change in the computer before this problem?

I suggest that you try the following method

    a. open the computer and right click on your external hard drive.
    b. go to properties > Security.
    c. click on modify under a quote "to change permissions, click on change."
    d. click Add. Type in "everyone" in the white box.
    e. then check in the box "total control". Press OK.
