• Cannot update or download anything from Microsoft

  I have windows XP pro 32
  I had problems with the updates and downloads from microsoft. It seems that I can not download anything from microsoft, MSN to the service pack of windows update I tried to download recently. When I click 'Download' the Web page just says I can't connect. The problem is not intermittent its recurring. I tried to email microsoft several times and the problem still has not been resolved.   Went to Microsoft Update and downloaded and installed a few optional upgrades, including one about a driver. After installation, will not restart.   You can check the KB number for the update in the update history:

• I get calls from someone who says he is from Microsoft, I asked to call back number, which is 650-989-1221 it is Microsoft?

  This man sounded like he was reading a script with an accent as the India, but he said he's in California... He said my computer is corrupt and sending signals and something else I don't remember. He said that it is from microsoft, but I told him not enything and ask for a number to call back later.

  This is a scam that has become increasingly common in recent years. Microsoft does not cold-call customers, so if you do not contact this 'service', don't give them access to your computer or personal information. Most of the time, they extort money (if you give them the remote control of your computer by going to the sites they tell you of to correct 'issues'), or at least the factory door programs and malware hidden on your computer.

  If you provide access to or information, you should be fine.

  There are a number of complaints or similar concerns registered by the other posters about the present; Unfortunately, there are many fictitious companies to try this type of scam, and international jurisdiction is find and their closing difficult.  The best option is just to ignore the calls for more ' we received your computer Windows error reports.

  I need help! My CD/DVD drive has disappeared, it is not even in the BIOS, and all the other removable disks since I installed an update from Microsoft. I went through all the troubleshooting steps and nothing has worked, including the fix it. How can I fix it? I contacted Microsoft and back an email that I had to PAY for technical support to resolve this issue. Which seems hardly fair since there was an update on their part that messed up my laptop. I have a Gateway MX8738 with Vista Home Premium. I have not seen the error messages it just that there is no CD/DVD drive installed and when I check in my computer the only things that are displayed are the drives C and D.

  Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check the cables

  Unfortunately, this is not possible. Apple only supports the display mode of the target if you want to use your iMac as external to display for an another Mini DisplayPort or Mac of Thunderbolt.

  Also, note that you would be able to plug a laptop with Mini DisplayPort connector, or Thunderbolt, and two of them are very strange connectors on non-Apple computers.

  Mac users often ask if they should install "anti-virus" (AV) or software "anti-malware". The answer is 'no', but it can give the false impression that there is no threat of what is loosely called 'virus '. There is a threat.

  1. it is a comment on what you should - and should not-do to protect you from malicious software ("malware") that runs on the Internet and gets onto a computer as an unintended consequence of the user's actions.

  It does not apply to the software, such as keyloggers, which can be installed deliberately by an intruder who has convenient access to the computer, or who has been able to take control of it remotely. This threat is in a different category, and there is no easy way to defend against it. AV software is not intended to and does not, to defend against these attacks.

  The comment is long because the issue is complex. The essential points are in articles 5 and 11.

  OS X implements now three levels of integrated protection specifically against malware, not to mention the protections of runtime such as quarantine the file, execute disable, sandbox, protecting the integrity of system, System Library randomization and randomized address space layout , which can also prevent other kinds of exploits.

  Apple took too long to revoke some known attackers codesigning certificates, thus diluting the value of the keeper and the program developer ID. These variances do not involve the App Store products, however.

  For the reasons given, App Store, and, to a lesser extent - other applications recognized by signed Gatekeeper, are safer than others, but they cannot be considered to be absolutely sure. "Sand" applications could make to access to private data, such as your contacts, or for access to the network. Think that before granting access. Security sandbox is based on user input. Never click through any application for leave without thinking.

  4. by starting with OS X 10.8.3, a third layer of protection has been added: a "Malware Removal Tool" (MRT). MRT runs automatically in the background. Malware is a problem of human behavior, not a behavior machine, and none only of technological solution will solve. Software protect you from trust only will make you more vulnerable.

  The best defense is always going to be your own intelligence. Except perhaps feats of Java, all the known malware, circulating on the Internet wearing reached a completely setting installation to update to OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "Trojans", which may have no effect if the victim is deceived in their execution.   Unexpected events

Never activate Java for a public Web site that carries the third-party advertising. Use only on websites that are well known, protected by login and secure without ads. In Safari 6 or later, you will see a padlock icon in the address bar when you visit a secure site.

  A few hours earlier, I received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft. TO NUMBER A BLOCKED (no caller ID).  Said that they were receiving messages from my computer it has been infected by a virus. I ran the two Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, and as MANY say that NOTHING malicious was detected.

  Please advise me how to proceed. I asked them to call back tomorrow.
