Cannot go beyond the updates configuration: 1 3-0% complete state. don't put off the computer.

When I turn the lap top, the display shows that the computer is in the process of configuring updates.  Display shows "Configuration updated: step 1 of 3-0% complete.".  Do not turn off your computer. "I left the computer for hours and he stuck in this mode.  The circular clear ball appears on the screen, but it does not turn. Windows Vista Home Premium is at the bottom of the screen.  I have turn the power off.  I can't go to the start menu.

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

See you soon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If the above does not work, try to make a Bootable ERD to do a Startup Repair:
As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.
As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the link provided and make a bootdisk of it.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.
Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.
http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/
ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
It's a very good Vista repair disc.
You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
There is not a disk of resettlement.
And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.
See you soon.
    Thank you for using Microsoft Vista answers Forum!
    Michael Murphy has provided these steps already; I'll just say it in a different way.
    HOW TO START YOUR COMPUTER IN SAFE MODE
    1. Restart your computer if it is running.
    2. Press the F8 key after your computer powers initially.
    3. Once you see the menu Advanced Startup Options , you can stop tapping.
    4. Up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
    5. Select Safe Mode with network and press enter.
    6. You should see loading drivers and then Please wait.
    7. You should then be on the Welcome screen.
    When my printer stopped working because of error messages about "printer cannot communicate with the computer" (from "twisted into the USB pins?), I tried to change to 2nd USB port without success. I tried a new cable; that did not help.
    Then I uninstalled and reinstalled my Lexmark printer and changed the error message. Now, the printer does not work because "the USB device is not recognized."
    I tried to update the chips; Use 1 USB port; and using the old cable, all this without success. I checked the connections of the cable to the printer and the PC and turn on the printer and goes off; I'm out of ideas. Any other suggestions?
    My laptop ACER Aspire 5610 in a loop of update configuration for three days now.  Don't have a Vista installation CD as provider did the installation.  Have tried all the safe mode restarts without success.  The display is still in phase 3 of 3 endless loop.  Ideas to fix/repair or recover data from disk hard 160 GB I need to keep?
    I want to thank everyone for friendly advice and assistance information.  After a few days (of frustration for me) and your continuous encouragement, I have finally overcome this "infinite loop".
    What worked for me was downloading neosmart.net for work properly CD/DVD burner.  I tried initially using my office old CD drive, but I forgot that it was a device to read-only and wouldn't be able to burn a copy of the restore CD.  I found a DVD burner work to correctly copy download neosmart.net.
    It took several boots cold on the laptop with the recovery CD as well as access 'shift F6', then quickly by "any key" for the necessary recovery menu.
    On Google, I noticed that this "configuration updates: stage 3 of 3-0% complete." has been on Vista for 2008.  It is almost of 2012 and it always creates problems?
    Hello
    1. you have any security program installed on the computer?
    2 did you a recent software or changes to the material on the computer?
    Method 1:
    I suggest you to disable any anti-virus program and check if the problem persists.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software
    NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
    Method 2:
    You can also run the printer Troubleshooter and check if it helps.
    Open the printer Troubleshooter
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-printer-Troubleshooter
    Method 3:
    I also suggest to try to run the System File Checker scan on the computer. The scan will replace all the Windows files corrupted with new ones.
  • Cannot scan to the computer. Photosmart 6510
    I have just purchase a photosmart 6510 and I cannot scan to the computer.  The printer tells me that I need to activate this via the printer software.  I know that I have installed all the software from the disc supplied.
    I can't find where I have activate the scan of the computer on my laptop.  Support information tells me to click the icon for the printer to my desktop, I do not have!  I tried going through the control panel and impossible to find something there.
    I go in the HP folder in my Start menu and click on scan HP that I get the following message "the machine HP photosmart 6510 series is not found".  I don't have a problem with printing at all.
    Tried to start printing and scanning of doctor and who did not make a difference. (In fact, the scan option came not on it).
    How can I fix this please?  I'm running Windows Vista Home premium.
    Hello.  Thanks for your reply.
    I've sorted really the problem now.  But let me explain what it was.
    I tried tool doctor who recommended you after browsing these forums, without success.  In fact, when I ran the scanner, he told me that he had no problem with printing, but there was no mention of the scanning anywhere.
    In fact, I uninstalled all HP software, removed the printer from my control panel.  Then reinstalled the software from the disc and then installed the printer again (I did things the opposite of the front walkway).  And the scanner function now works.
