Cannot import photos into Lightroom

I have a new macbook air. I downloaded pictures from a memory card to the laptop. They are there when I go to 'Photos' on my mac. However, when I try to import into Lightroom, nothing. Under my name, I have various applications folders, desktop, documents, pictures, etc.. But when I go in the photos, I can't find the pictures I want to import... I'm quite new to photos on mac and certainly new to Lightroom, but I'm confused as to how to include my photos under the "Source" option when I try to import into Lightroom. What I am doing wrong?

If you upload to 'Photos' on your Mac, they will not appear in Lightroom.  Photos from Apple and Adobe Lightroom do not play well together.  You must export the images of 'Photos' in a folder on your Mac before you can import into Lightroom.

I'm unable to import photos into lightroom on my Mac 5. It will be the first segment of unit import photos and the last bit, but leave out the middle section of photos. I thought it was because I changed the settings on my camera one day and those pictures of that day could not be imported, but it did just the same thing when I tried to import photos from my iPhone. It would incorporate pictures from October and December, but none since November. I tried to uncheck "do not import suspected duplicates", but which did not help either. I can import these pictures on my computer, but not in Lightroom. Lightroom is how I organize and classify all my photos, so it is a big problem for me. How can I fix?

I can't import photos into lightroom free trial cc/6 2015. Lightroom can see all my pictures from my SDHC card and allows me to select and configure the import, and then clicking import it says that all the selected files (245) has not can be imported because they could not be read. I use MacBook Pro 2015 OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, photos taken with Canon G1 X Mark II. Any ideas?

This message indicates that you have not permission in writing to the destination directory.

    So:

    1. Determine the destination directory... go in the Lightroom import dialog box and note the location of this directory specified on the right side under "Destination".
    2. Go to your operating system and change the permissions on this exact directory have WRITE permission.
  • Importing photos into Lightroom CC

I always had problems trying to import my photos into Lightroom. I have read many articles on it and watched many tutorials, and none of them does not seem to work for me. I'm working on a Mac OS (El Capitan) and I use the Photos App on my computer. I take photos for a living, and I want some "records" of the Photos App to import into Lightroom so I can change, so I want to save them back in the 'File' or 'Album' from the Photos App. I'm frustrated that there is no means to achieve and that Lightroom is so different from Photoshop and other items.

If someone could help with this, I'd appreciate it greatly - thank you!

    Hi shelbys.

Well, you cannot migrate your images directly from App Photos in Lightroom as opening.

You export your App Photos images and save it somewhere on the machine, then Lightroom would be able to see your images and can add/import your images into the software so that you can edit them later.

  • Import photos into lightroom on another machine and keep your changes.

My hard drive has failed, but I could extract my lightroom with my pictures folder and place it on an external hard drive. Is it possible for me to import the photos in that folder in lightroom on a new machine and keep my changes I made?

CHETNA response is good for running off LR the external drive.

If you prefer to use an internal hard drive, simply copy the catalog and images to the new internal drive, then "relocate" images using the link of Claes.

    Hi ktgreenwell,

Please use the option to "Copy" when you import, expand as all the panels on the right side in the import window.

  • When you import photos into Lightroom 5 take disk space?

I store all my photos on the D drive on my PC, Lightroom 5 is installed on the C drive. When I import my pictures in my library using the Add option should they take place on the C drive and D drive? They appear to do, but I thought that they would not be using the Add option rather than move or copy. Can someone please advise?

    Thank you very much

    Stephen Cooper.

Where your LR catalog?  If it is on your C drive, additional space only on C should be for the information added to the catalog and previews, which must be low, unless you generate 1:1 previews, which can be larger and take more space.

  • cannot import photos into iphoto 9.6.1 using el capitan

I imported a batch of photos to my phone yesterday, but today I can not import. My camera when it is connected to the Mac book is displayed in iphoto. IPhoto would not complete the import. Message came saying import was underway, but nothing happened. Same thing happened when I used the "Import to library" option in iphoto after dragging the photos on my hard drive. I tried to drag the photos from my hard drive to iphoto and received the same message, 'import in progress'. I would appreciate any suggestions and ideas, thanks

  • cannot import images into lightroom cc using Mac

everything I try to import images of the map, I get a message that says lightroom could not read image. The card reader works because I can import pictures from another app like iPhoto.

The most common problem for errors "failed to read", it's that your destination folder has WRITE permissions added.

In your LR import dialog box, verify that the destination folder is where you want it to be and correctly spelt.

Then, using the Finder, go to this folder and make sure that your username has both READ and WRITE access to this folder and its parent.

  • I just bought a Kumix FZ300. IAM taking pictures in RAW. When I went to import photos into Lightroom 5.7 photos were not recognized. Help, please. Mark

IAM trying to post photos of process taken in RAW of my Lumix FZ 300. Lightroom 5.7 ca't recognize the photos. Help, please

If you are targeting on the Panasonic Lumix FZ300, the camera was first supported by Lightroom CC 2015.1 or Lightroom 6.1. It will not be supported in the version you have. You can upgrade or use the free DNG 9.1 Converter to create DNG copies that you can use with what you have now.

  • How to import photos into Lightroom?  I get an error every time.

I tried to import pictures from my camera card, on desktop and my "photos" on my Mac.  I get an error every time which includes: not able to copy a file to the requested location.  Help, please!

Make sure you have the destination (TO - the column on the right in the import screen) set to a location where you have write privileges on your computer. The level of the root of your hard drive is usually not writable with the standard user on mac os X configuration. Generally, you want something like the pictures folder in your home (/Users/photos) directory.

  • Photos on my Flickr account can be downloaded and imported directly into Lightroom?

Photos on my Flickr account can be downloaded and imported directly into Lightroom?

You can download photos from Flickr on your hard disk, and then import those in LR (a two-step process).

If you want to then maintain the relationship between these photos in your catalog and photos on Flickr, you can use this third-party Flickr plugin. It is a little more complex to implement than the Flickr edition built-in service for LR, but she is more capable and more reliable.
