Cannot install VMware Tools on Ubuntu VM

I'm not having any success installing VMware Tools on a Ubuntu VM.

If I try to use the GUI and click twice on the

8.8.2 - VMwareTools - 590212.tar.gz file, I get "the content of the folder could.

not be displayed. Operation not supported".

I don't remember what I used in another attempt, but got, 'Extraction do not run. You

don't have the appropriate permissions to extract archives in the folder

""file:///media/VMware%20Tools"

If I right click on VMwareTools - 8.8.0 - 471268.tar.gz I choose "Open".

With Archive Manager' which takes me to the vmware-tools-distrib

file, where I can double-click that expose the content. There I

see the vmware - install.pl folder and double-click the same, but nothing seems to happen.

I tried to use the CLI, and I saw so many different suggestions

(tar - xvf, - xvzf with and without the "-"). I get "Archive not found."

If I opened a terminal in the folder/media/VMware Tools and enter:

sudo tar - xvzf VMwareTools - 8.8.2 - 590212.tar.gz

then it looks like it all begins is extracted for almost a

minutes and then I get:

"Smoothly with State failure due to previous errors"

and if I scroll to the top news, the screen is loaded with ' no file or.

Directory"(many times) to what whatever in the vmware-tools-distrib

folder.

I'm new to Linux and VMware... Please be gentle.

Thank you.

  • How to install VMware Tools in Ubuntu guest with no Internet connectivity?

I need to install VMware Tools in a Guest Ubuntu (10.04) running in VMware Player.

The machine on which it is running has no internet access; It is part of an isolated network.

I know there are a LOT of instructions on how to do it, and it seems that they all begin with "mount your ISO file...". ' or "click"Install VMware Tools..."."

Of course, I have not and cannot find a file ISO of VMware tools for Ubuntu.  I admit that I can be looked in the wrong place, but I watched several times and have spent many hours on it.   I tried Open VM Tools as well and followed the instructions included, but orders did not produce the responses described.

When I click on "Install VMware Tools" the machine just made several attempts to connect to a server that will never happen.

Although it does not prove that I know what I'm doing, I installed VMware Tools on several hosts of Windows XP.  For some reason, I was able to find many versions of VMware Tools for Windows ISO.  The installation worked everytime with very little hair loss.

Thanks for any help on this eternal question.

You will need to download the ISO images for the VMware Tools installation media at least once, on a computer with internet access.  Player menu--> File--> Preferences of the player.  Click on the button download now all components.  Once complete, there will be 6 ISO files in the folder of the player.  You can copy them to the same location on the PC that you are currently underway.  Then, you can follow the instructions to install VMware Tools in a Linux Guest, located in the help file.

  • Cannot install VMWare tools on first installation of VMW Player for Windows

Y at - it a tip to install VMWare Tools on VMW Player for Windows.  Tried as a Player 7.1.1 and 6.0.5.

I downloaded the "darwin" and "windows versions" of tools with version management for versions of reader (for Player 6.05 6.05 tools).  But I don't know how to get VMWare to see downloaded files.  I connected the darwin.iso in the folder of the payload for the CD/DVD drive under settings of the virtual computer.

I always get a dialog box with this message when I select install VMWare Tools in the menu:

"Cannot find component on the update server. Contact VMware Support or your system administrator. »

If you have the appropriate iso image attached to the guest, you have no need to use the "Install VMware Tools" menu - it's all that.  Go to comments and run the installation from the CD-ROM drive.

  • "Easy Install cannot install VMware tools"

As I began to create a virtual machine for Ubuntu 12.10, VMware Player displays a message indicating that it recognizes this OS and install it and VMware Tools with Easy Install. "Good idea," I thought to myself 'I am all in favor of easy'.

And the installation went great, until VMware Player try to install VMware Tools. This is where the process has frozen and not exceeded. Now, whenever I try to start my VM the screen says "install VMware Tools... Please wait. »

    How can I fix?

Personally speaking General and I use Easy Install, especially with the Linux Distros!   With some Easy Install distributions do not properly size the volume/boot, causing issues later during the upgrade of nuclei.  I don't like what he does with it two CD/DVD of configuration and how it leaves things when doing even if it can be cleaned manually to the top.

I recommend not to use is installed and instead select "I will install the operating system later" and then create a manual installation of the Linux operating system and then install VMware Tools then.

I tried to download from two PC different and two different networks.

Try disabling the web Updater by going to Preferences > uncheck the "check the Web for updates at startup".

You can uninstall and then install vmware player.

You can also get the tools using Apt - get, instead of by the bias of the player interface. See this page:

    Hello

I compared it with mine and there are 2 major differences.

First of all, I use older virtual material (version 4 instead of 7) but I do not expect that this is relevant to this problem. In addition, it makes little sense to use older virtual hardware unless your virtual machine must be compatible with VMware ESX. For example the old version of HW I use excludes the directx features, and you probably want to use.

The other main difference is guestOS, in my version, it has the following value:

    guestOS = "winxppro"

Could you try that and see if it helps?

If this does not help then I'm afraid, we're going to need more details. In this case it might be useful to the vmware.log file loading

One thing you might try must in any case completely re - install VMware tools in removing it first.

In order to do not find themselves trapped by the windows activation logic or other inconveniences while experimenting, I recommend taking a backup of the virtual machine when it is completely stopped before doing anything else.

To add the tools to start, try to add the entries you need to preferences-> Sessions-> startup programs

A new message with details on how to accomplish this would be a very good thing, because this application is a lot around here.

  • Cannot install VMware Tools on Windows 10

Having trouble installing VMware Tools on a Win10 business VM (vSphere 5.5). Installation lance then anything beyond that never reports. Is there something special that needs to be done to make this work?

I click the button on the drive, select manage and then install VMware Tools. I get an error: component not found on the update server. Contact VMware Support or your system administrator.

I have confirmed that I can browse the Internet from the virtual system. What other steps should I take, so that I can install the tools?

Post edited by: BigSam1 Thanks to each of you for the information. I was curious to know if this could be done, so I searched and found a blog with instructions. Now that I know it's not cool to do, I have deleted the virtual Mac.

Because MAC OS on an Apple brand hardware not violates Apple EULA, this is not supported by VMware Player, which is the reason why there are not VMware Tools available for it.

  • Cannot install VMware tools - "cannot find the component...". »

I created a Windows XP Pro VM under a host Windows 7 Pro using Player 4.02. When I try to install VMware tools I get the message "can't find conponent on the update server. Contact VMware support or your system administrator. "The host and guest both can work a network connectivity and the internet. I saw at least another poster on another forum mentioned this error message and told him to install by mounting the ISO and install it manually. I looked in every subdirectory of the installation of the reader and any windows.iso file could not be found. Is it supposed to be there in this version of the player? If this is not the case, how can I get the iso? Any help is appreciated.

This question will probably be corrected in the next few days and I see this with other versions.  Right now the last repository showing is: http://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/player/4.0.1

Installs a XP VM to this platform - formerly hosted by VMWare Server 1.x on XP also. It works! Installation of the Vmware tools just leads to the 'there was a problem updating a software component. Try again later and if the problem persists, contact your system administrator or the VMware Support. "So I... Help, please!

    Herbert

You must first extract the files in the archive, then use sudo in the command line in a Terminal.

An example would be in a Terminal...

    sudo vmware-installer --install-component=vmware-tools-linux-8.4.4-301548.x86_64.component

To display the GUI installer and then you just follow the instructions.

For VMware Windows tools that you have downloaded the command line should be as follows.

    sudo vmware-installer --install-component=vmware-tools-windows-8.4.5-324285.i386.component
