Cannot install VMware tools - "cannot find the component...". »

I created a Windows XP Pro VM under a host Windows 7 Pro using Player 4.02. When I try to install VMware tools I get the message "can't find conponent on the update server. Contact VMware support or your system administrator. "The host and guest both can work a network connectivity and the internet. I saw at least another poster on another forum mentioned this error message and told him to install by mounting the ISO and install it manually. I looked in every subdirectory of the installation of the reader and any windows.iso file could not be found. Is it supposed to be there in this version of the player? If this is not the case, how can I get the iso? Any help is appreciated.

This question will probably be corrected in the next few days and I see this with other versions.  Right now the last repository showing is: http://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/player/4.0.1

  • PowerShell remoting to install VMWare tools

    Greetings

It is true that it is probably focused more on PowerShell and less on VMware VMware tools is the target

I'm trying to write a script to install VMware tools remotely on the virtual machines that do not have VMware tools installed.

So far I have the below...

    Import-Module VMware.VimAutomation.Cis.Core

    Import-Module VMware.VimAutomation.Core

    Import-Module VMware.VimAutomation.HA

    Import-Module VMware.VimAutomation.Sdk

    Import-Module VMware.VimAutomation.Storage

    Import-Module VMware.VimAutomation.Vds

    Se connect-VIServer vCenterserver.domain

    $username = "domain\username"

    $SecurePassword = Read-Host -Quick ' Enter * FIELD * password " -AsSecureString

    $Credentials = New-Object System.Management.Automation.PSCredential '

    -ArgumentList $UserName $SecurePassword

       $VM = "Test01"

       Get-vm $VM | Dismount-Tools

       Get-vm $VM | Mount-Tools

    $RMsession = New-PSSession -ComputerName $VM -Credential $Credentials

    Invoke-Command -Session $RMSession -ScriptBlock { }$CDRom = Get-WmiObject -class Win32_CDROMDrive | select Drive | ForEach {$_. {{ Drive}}

    { Invoke-Command -Session $RMSession -ScriptBlock { }$Subpath = '\setup.exe s-v - SB ADDLOCAL = all THE REBOOT = R'}

    { Invoke-Command -Session $RMSession -ScriptBlock { }$ExecuteEXE = Join-Path -Path $CDRom -ChildPath $Subpath}

    { Invoke-Command -Session $RMSession -ScriptBlock { }start-process $executeEXE}

    output

    Remove-PSSession *

    Disconnect VIServer * -confirm:$False

    I confirmed that $executeEXE = indeed Z:\setup.exe s - v - SB ADDLOCAL = ALL REBOOT = R

When I run the script in the ISE, I get:

Start-Process: this command cannot be executed due to the error: the system cannot find the specified file.

    Online: 1 character: 14

    + start-process < < < < $executeEXE

    + CategoryInfo: InvalidOperation: (:)) [Start-Process], InvalidOperationException)

    + FullyQualifiedErrorId: InvalidOperationException, Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.StartProcessCommand

It is true that I am very inexperienced with PowerShell remoting.

It seems that when I run the script it seems in fact be invoking the command on the remote computer, but rather on the local computer. VMware tools are piling up and the path in $executeEXE is 100% correct and the PSSession is also open, no doubt, but not magic?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Greetings LucD

Looks like I may have found the problem.

Looking for a way run the background process, so that I can do a get-process, while he was running to show he was running, I discovered that start-process allows you to specify the - ArgumentList parameter. (windows - start a detached in PowerShell background process - Stack Overflow) (2 responses)

    So, it looks like this:

    Invoke-Command - Session $RMSession - ScriptBlock {"$CDRom = Get - WmiObject - class Win32_CDROMDrive | select drive"}

    | ForEach {$_.} Disk}; $Subpath = '\setup.exe '; $ExecuteEXE is $CDRom join-Path-Path - ChildPath $Subpath;. start-process $executeEXE - ArgumentList's - v - SB ADDLOCAL = ALL REBOOT = R'}

    To my surprise translates:

    [Test01]: C:\ PS > Get-Process of installation *.

Manages the NPM PM (K) k VM (M) CPU Id ProcessName

    -------  ------    -----      ----- -----   ------     -- -----------

    68 10 1540 5088 56 3220 0.17 setup

    108 10 2324 7340 76 0.14 3504 setup64

    And VMware tools installed.

Thank you very much for your time and trouble. Always very appreciated!

Transferred to the virtual machine and OS forum comments.

You get the error then 'install' or 'mount' the ISO image?

Also, you go through and remove all equipment and unused hardware drivers of your virtual machine after the P2V?

  • "The system cannot find the specified file" error when you try to install a hotfix/cab package using the DISM tool Package Manager

I'm testing the integrity of the addon ".cab" packages and patches by installing using the Package Manager (pkgmgr.exe), or alternatively, the Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool (DISM.exe) for Windows 7.  To do this, I am aware that I have to call a tool through the command line.

In the Package Manager, I use the syntax

    Command prompt > pkgmgr.exe /ip /m:C:\Test\test.cab

Otherwise, I might add the path in quotes:

    "Command prompt > pkgmgr.exe /ip /m:"C:\Test\test.cab.

The error returned in pkgmgr is:

Operation failed with 0 x 80070002.  The system cannot find the specified file.

My first impression was that my syntax is incorrect, although I can't have room for error.  The path points to "test.cab" which is a renamed windows addon that contains the necessary file "svcpack" and the file "entries_XX.ini".  I used several different ".cab" file, that which some I know to be genuine, hopefully exclude the possibility of a corrupted or incompatible file.  I also tried this procedure on different computers and received the same error code, so I doubt that the tool pkgmgr istelf is corrupt.

Finally, I tried an alternative Windows 7/8 DISM tool to try to achieve essentially the same task by using the following syntax in a command prompt:

    "Commnand prompt > DISM.exe / Online /PackagePath:"C:\Test\test.cab Add-Package ".

    This produces a similar error:

An error occurred trying to open it - C:\Test\test.cab error: 0 x 80070002
    Error: 2
The system cannot find the specified file.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I'm really not sure why I produce these errors.  Any idea is appreciated.

  • Cannot install VMware ESXi 4.1 "cannot find the image of the installed system.

Started in iso ESXi 4.1 downloaded, burned on a CD, CD, go to the screens, press F11 to install.  Immediately get the following error:

    -

    The installation operation failed!

The installation operation encountered a fatal error:

Cannot find the image of the installed system.  This is due to the image being not mounted correctly or the CD-ROM not supported.

    -

The material is a system of handcrafted with Intel DQ35JO Council, latest version of the BIOS, Intel E6850 CPU, 8 GB of RAM, 2 SATA drives.  I know this isn't on the list compatible but is a 'white box '.  I installed ESXi 3.5 on it in the past and got it working, and I saw other success stories with this Board/CPU.  Yes, I have activated the virtualization mode in the BIOS and powered down/up.

    Here is what I tried:

-Redownload VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 4.1.0 - 260247.x86_64.iso to ensure that it was not corrupt (2 copies, against perfectly)

--Also tried another drive (IDE) CDROM

-Created a bootable USB using uNetBootin 4.7.1 and booted from it

-Switched SATA setting in the BIOS from AHCI to IDE

I get the same exact error.  I searched here and everywhere and don't find any reference to this error.

Help - all do you offer for my next step?

Have you had a previous vSphere installed on your system?

I had the same error on my 'white box' (in fact, it is black).  I used to run esxi 4.0 (u2) on my Acer X 3300 (6 GB, Quad Core AMD Athlon II).  Controllor internal SATA is not supported, but it allows me to use the box for normal windows task and ESXi is sitting on a SDHC 4 GB flash card.

When I started my freshly burned ESX4.1 cdrom, I got the same error.   I thought that the fact that maybe there was an existing install on my destination drive (the flash memory card), and that the CD could not perform an upgrade.

So, I tried the upgrade path (first trying to utility of the host and the .xml error message).  After reading the manual, I did the upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 using the device of vMA and I must say that esxi 4.1 works great on my white box.

Then I suggest that you try upgrading and see how far that gets you.

Good luck (and a beautiful weekend)

I downloaded the "darwin" and "windows versions" of tools with version management for versions of reader (for Player 6.05 6.05 tools).  But I don't know how to get VMWare to see downloaded files.  I connected the darwin.iso in the folder of the payload for the CD/DVD drive under settings of the virtual computer.

I always get a dialog box with this message when I select install VMWare Tools in the menu:

"Cannot find component on the update server. Contact VMware Support or your system administrator. »

That's good news. I think you also need to analyze of rootkits being on the right side. So, now:

Search for rootkits with a program SPECIALLY designed to detect and remove the (aswMBR):

Download this file to your desktop. Double-click the icon to run the program. When the opportunity to download and install the latest Avast definitions do.
Run a scan. Results in red indicate that this was not a false positive! Do you need to remove the rootkit (including "FixMBR" if necessary).

And finally, leave your PC on overnight and search for viruses, using this site:
Once we are convinced that your PC is clean, here are my instructions (just in case where you still cannot run batch of Geek-Tech file, etc.):

    1. download the installation of SP3 and IE8 (beforehand) files. I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links for the installation files:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

(You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)

(You need to install IE8 AFTER SP3! Trust in me.)

    IMPORTANT NOTE!

It is VERY important to ensure that Internet Explorer is at the level IE6 before installing SP3. In case you have IE7 or IE8, you must uninstall it / them, using the Control Panel Add / Remove programs. Let us know if you need assistance with this.

    Once again:

Make sure that IE is IE6 level before installing SP3. You can go directly from IE6 to IE8 after SP3 has been installed.

    2. disconnect Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices.

    3. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:

Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates

4 set up a clean boot. The last thing you need is for a program that runs in the background to interfere with these updates! (It happens!) For more information:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

(Note that this is the same as setting up a "Diagnostic boot.")

    Reset.

5 install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

6 switch to IE8. Restart TWICE.

(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

7 unscrew the clean boot. (That is, return to the Normal startup).

8 make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):

Start | Control Panel | Security Center

9 visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.

10 re - enable automatic updates.
