Cannot perform updates Windows, windows update says service not running

I have a HP Pavilion notebook computer Windows Vista Edition, 64-bit home premium, Norton Security 1 year Service pack 2. I'm having the same problem when trying to get out and get windows update says service does not. I spent in and restarted and also rebooted several times without change. Any ideas to fix?

1. are you referring to the windows updates? If so, then what is the number of update?

2. do you get this message for all the updates?

Method 1.

Step 1.

Unplug all external devices, restart the computer and then try to install the updates.

Step 2.

I suggest that you follow the steps mentioned and try to start the Windows update service.

Check if the following services are running.

Background Intelligent Transfer Service

Cryptographic services

Windows Update

Windows install

a. click Start, type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press enter.

b. double-click the service name in the Services list.

c. under the general tab, next to startup type, make sure that automatic is selected.

d. If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start and then click OK.

e. once the services are started and defined as running, try to install the updates and check.

Method 2.

You can follow the steps in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997

Warning check disk.

Important: all by performing the check disk on the hard drive if bad sectors are found then check disk try to repair this area, all the data available in this area may be lost.

I cannot perform certain functions because he says that I'm not an administrator, but it's my computer and I'm the only person who uses this computer

What are the functions? More global changes (changes to the system, software installation) require an elevation in Vista/Windows 7.

User - recommended configuration (Vista and Win7) accounts

You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all other Windows 7, Vista, and modern operating systems are operating systems multi-user with integrated system of accounts as default Administrator and comments. These accounts should be left alone because they are part of the structure of the operating system.

In particular, you do not want account only one user with administrator privileges on Vista and Windows 7 because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult. It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but it may require more work you want to do. Better not to get into a bad situation at first.

The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. As a user Standard is recommended for security reasons and will help protect your computer against infections. After you have created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

If you want to go directly to the desktop and ignore the Welcome screen with the icons of the user accounts, you can do this:

Start Orb > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null). MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • I can't add a component from the Add Remove program window as says could not initialize winxp

I can't add a component from the Add Remove program window as says could not initialize winxp

My victory is xp professional ver 2002 service pack 3

It's usually easy to fix, but if you removed all the dll and inf files, you can have a bunch of other problems that you have not yet discovered.

If you mean when you try to use Add/Remove Windows components you see a message like this:

Install was not able to load the master file.
The application could not be initialized.

This happens because this file is missing:

    c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf

There is no copy backup of this file on your system and run the System File Checker will not replace the missing file (sorry, that Microsoft committed Support Engineer 'experts').

You will need to get a real copy of your XP bootable installation CD or from a reliable source.

There's a copy on my SkyDrive, you can download - here's how:

I downloaded a copy of XP Pro SP3 file you need on my SkyDrive (everyone has a SkyDrive for file sharing).

You can download it and when you do, put a copy of the file in this folder (assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive):

    c:\Windows\Inf

Here is the link to my SkyDrive and you can get the file you need here:

    https://SkyDrive.live.com/?CID=6a7e789cab1d6f39&ID=6A7E789CAB1D6F39! 311

When you see the files available for download, you can not see the file extension (.exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip, etc.), but when download you them they will have the right extension.

When you download the file (especially if you use Internet Explorer), when you get a chance to save the file, your browser is unable to save the file with an extension (by example, .exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip, etc) then you will need to manually add the extension appropriate to the file when you download the file before you save it.

You can download the file without the extension, and then rename the file to add the appropriate extension.  You do not want to use a file named sysoc when the name of the file should really be called sysoc.inf (if the downloaded file has no extension, you will need to change the name of the file to add the appropriate extension to make it work.

You must then copy and paste the downloaded folder appropriate on your system.

    Hello

You are running a third part of the internet security solution? Many of them include a firewall that is clean and disable the Windows Firewall. If this is the case, you should first disable this one before the attempt to initialize the Windows Firewall. It is not advisable to attempt to run two firewalls at the same time.

If you have recently deleted (uninstalled) a third party solution, you may need to run a cleanup this provider of software tool to remove any debris WASTE of this program in order to activate the Windows Firewall.
