Cannot pin a program from the taskbar

So my spazzed computer out for a reason, and now I can't delete a program in the task bar. Not that I don't want it there, but when I right click on it it will not pop up with a menu that gives me a choice to her PIN on the bar of. There is no open in an entirely separate icon. Observe. The program is Google Chrome:

(Sorry, it's a little small - you'll have to zoom in)
Then it starts to get a little boring and I would appreciate it if anyone had a solution in fixing it.
Thanks again.

Hello

You can solve the problem, but it will remove all of your icons also pinned.  Here's a script that will make the necessary files and registry changes for you.

  1. Copy all the text in bold below and paste it into Notepad (there are 4 lines)
  2. When you save the file, choose the "All Files" type and give it a name ending in .bat (example: Taskbar.bat Reset)
  3. Double-click your new command file to run commands, and then restart your computer.

DEL/f/s/q/a "%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\."

REG DELETE HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband /F

Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

Start explorer.exe

Well, strange question. It is maybe something wrong with the CD rom of s?
The best idea is to recover this unit with the supplied restore CD, but first of all you can try to remove the CD rom from Device Manager device. After OS start the player will be recognized again. If the problem persists after this procedure, I would recommend to recover the device.

  • Cannot pin a program uninstalled in the bar of

I uninstalled a program that has an icon on the taskbar.  Now that the program is uninstalled, I can't remove the icon.  My first inclination was to do what you always do to remove an icon from the taskbar, right-click on the icon and click "unpin this program from the taskbar".  However, you cannot right click on this icon.  To the left by clicking on the icon generates the error message: "problem with shortcut: this action is only valid for products that are currently installed."

It seems that the only way to remove this icon is to do it manually via Windows Explorer.  I can't find the directory that contains the shortcut.  Is - such a directory exist or should I take additional measures outside the GUI?

    Windows 7 RC Build 7100.

    Much help appreciated!

PS: Yes, I rebooted my computer!

Update: I solved the problem.  I uninstalled the application and then reinstalled the application.  For some reason any option to "detach from taskbar" was now available on the shortcut when it had not been before.  Strange behavior, but it is now fixed.

Thanks for the suggestions.  This is a good resource for Windows issues.

  • Can't pin the program to the taskbar.

Ive been try instructions on how programs PIN over the taskbar, but I can't.  I clicked on the start menu and right click on the program I have to pin, but no 'Code Pin to the taskbar' option. I also tried to drag the program on the taskbar, but it did not work. What will I do?

Sorry, but that's the wrong answer. Absolutely NO program (executable file) would PIN to the taskbar. I found out why and would like to present this as the correct answer to anyone having this problem. This is because I removed the arrows on the icons on the desktop, thanks to a program called "Wise Fixer." If you choose to provide these arrows on the icons you can then pin any program to the taskbar again. Go figure.

No, what you wrote, you don't want to disable anything of the program startup list.

  • Cannot pin or loose most of the things from the taskbar / / Win7

Hi people, I have an apparently strange issue where I can't PIN or loose most of the things in my taskbar. The generic search has many similar situations but none of them seemed exactly the same and none of the listed solutions worked for me or seemed appropriate.

    Symptoms/findings

    • When you drag the icon 'Documents' from the library of Windows Explorer in the taskbar for example, I see "Pin to Windows Explorer" as expected.
    • Nothing else seems to work like / expected.  There is no context of rt - click on "Pin to taskbar" anywhere including the icons on the desktop or the start menu.
    • I can't for example remove Visual Studio from the taskbar.  (I must have had it there somehow in the past.)
    • "PIN to Start Menu" appears for most / all of the selections.  It's just pin/detach from the task bar which seems to be down.

    Any ideas?

  • Start icon disappears from the taskbar. Command prompt concludes that he cannot fix corrupted files.

My power icon disappeared from my taskbar after a reboot. Following the advice of the Forum I turned on command prompt and asked the sfc/scannow.

After a long search, I received notification that there were a few corrupted files and not all could be fixed. This had occurred previously in 2012.

After a security alert, security, I downloaded the program named Emet. After reading more below in the Microsoft forum, I found the comments which Emet

may damage files. I decided to uninstall Emet. When I finished that I discovered that the Emet icon has disappeared from the taskbar along

with the battery icons and a few other icons. I took my Asus laptop at Best Buy and the tech there called a Microsoft service don't. and

has got instructions to restore the missing icons using the appropriate record. It was in summer 2012. When I stopped my laptop Sunday, December 21, 13

and then reopened Tuesday, December 23, 13 I found that, once more, my power icon had disappeared from the notification area. The correspondent

subprogrammes in the control panel for the management of the icons in the notification area were inoperative for the icon of power and a few others. This

was the exact situation I had in 2012, about 16 months ago.

After failing to solve the problem with the command prompt, I thought I would ask for help. For the moment, I managed without going through the power icon

presented at the center of mobility in the office and after having pinned the control panel to the taskbar on the right.

    Hi Ronald,.

When you first start a new computer, the operating system typically runs Startup service initializations that can take anywhere from one to six hours to finish, depending on which applications are preloaded on the computer. Make sure that you give the operating system sufficient time to finish these Startup service initializations until you stop or restart the computer. This problem generally not happen once the operating system has completed initialization of all before background services is restarted.

I suggest you refer to the following article which has a few registry tweaks to solve the problem. Please follow the steps and check out them.

System icons do not appear in the notification area in Windows Vista or Windows 7, you must restart the computer

Note: this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • Pin a shortcut to the taskbar

I just installed Windows 7 7100 on SBS2003 R2 32 bit workstation.  Everything seems simple with two exceptions...

    1. I am trying to pin a shortcut to the taskbar, but when I I drag it to the task bar there is a red circle with a bar diagonally and it won't PIN.  When the application is running and I click right to "pin to taskbar" the only options I have are to "close the window.

    2. is there a way to remove, hide or remove a program running in the taskbar (Windows Messenger for example)?

    Thank you very much.

My understanding from what I've read of Microsoft... shortcuts, folders and disks can be pinned. The icon must be associated with an exe file. You may not remove or hide a program running in the taskbar either. Jonathan Matthis aka "7test" on MSN QnA
