Cannot receive emails after installing updates

After that update was installed automamtically, I can't receive emails.  Happens as follows: connection to the server has failed. Account mail.btinternet.com. Mail.btinternet.com.Protocol POP3 server. Port 110. Secure SSL not. Socket error 10061. 0x800CCC0E error number.
I can always retrieve the emails via the web page, but not via outlook.
I contaced Norton and my ISP - as much say problem not with them.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Prior to the problem, I sent some a very large file with photos which does not pass so I had to divide photos and s little at a time.  Nothing in Outbox.  Also, ran a sync of my accounts. Do not know if or the other could have contributed\caused problem and do not know how deterimne?

    Sounds to me like the malicious software that you have installed ruined some files of Windows and even if you think you've fixed the infection, the files are always broken.  If this happened to me, I back up all my data, collect all my kits installation of software and product keys, then wipe the disk and reinstall everything, restore my backups of data later.

    According to Bruce, OE has no spam or junk folder, so this file is likely on the server.  Sign in to your e-mail via webmail account and then look for a folder spam or junk e-mail on the server and you can delete the Junk there.

    My server contacted me and told me to check my spam using their webmail account, because it was full.  It seems that when I used the rules of the mail I had clicked on delete from the server, just "do not download".  My spam folder was so full that I couldn't receive. Thanks for all your advice!  Mark as resolved.

    Last week, I installed the latest update of Windows 8, however once installed, I was no longer able to access the internet and became a message saying that the page cannot be displayed.     WIN 7 Home Premium running on a gateway PC connected to the internet via an ethernet connection using a RealTek network adapter for the past 5 years with no problems. Running Avast Pro antivirus / internet security.  09/02/2016, Microsoft and Avast downloaded and installed updates on the PC.  After the PC auto-redémarré as part of the Microsoft updates, I couldn't connect to the internet.  Connect to the network now says unidentified network - no network connection.  The adapter looks like to she always sees the (watch 100 Mbps) connection, but no data packet move.  Device Manager indicates that the unit is working normally.

    I ran through the resolution of the problems of Windows network. I checked the cable was attached, reset the home modem, reset the adapter (toggle), uninstalled/reinstalled using the latest adapter driver available.  I have disabled the Windows Firewall because Firewall Avast wouldn't start.  I disabled all the Avast settings to see if it eliminated the problem.  I tried to run the system restore before the updates but continue to spread the message that there was an unexplained error and restore failed.  All this was done in Normal mode. I restarted mode safe and had the same problems without success.

    I was able to clear the problem by manually uninstalling updates of security Windows which were loaded on 09/02/2016 through the programs and features Control Panel. Then I did the repair of Avast program operation.  I rebooted the computer and the internet connection worked. Then I reinstalled manually updates Windows security on the Windows Update program.

    I contacted Verizon and I shared my screen with them and they changed some settings.

    They changed the port to 465 and connection from none to SSL/TLS security. They had me also to change my password to 8 characters instead of 6, and then it worked.
