cannot restore or repair system

says not enough memory but I'm only using about 54% of my total memory.

Hi Jeffreyrobwilson,

Try to increase the size of the shadow copy of volume. Follow the steps below to do so.

1. click Start and type cmd in the search box.
2. right click on cmd in the list and select run as administrator.
3. when the command prompt window opens type: vssadmin list shadowstorage and press enter .
4. This command gives the full list of the used Shadow Copy storage allocated Shadow copy storage space and Maximum shadow copy storage space.

You can increase the allocated Shadow copy storage space by executing this command:

Type: vssadmin resize shadowstorage / on = [drive letter]: / For = [drive letter]: / MaxSize = [add the maximum size] and press enter .

For example, the command should look like this:

vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage / For = C: / On = C: / MaxSize = xxGB

If all goes well, you should see a message saying "resized instant storage association successfully. Your ghost of the restoration of the system memory has now been resized".

You should be able to perform the backup successfully after this procedure.

    Hello

Method 1: I suggest that you do the startup repair using the Windows Vista installation disc and check if it works.

If you have a Windows Vista installation disc, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc. If you do not restart your computer from the disk, the option to repair your computer will not appear.

    a. Insert the installation disc.

    b. restart your computer.

Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

    c. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

Note: If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.

    d. choose your language settings, and then click Next.

    e. click on repair your computer.

    f. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.

    g. in the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair.

See: How can I fix a startup (startup)?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/how-do-I-fix-a-boot-startup-problem

Method 2: If above method fails, then run the command chkdsk WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment) and check if it solves the problem:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7

Note: Select command prompt from the system recovery options and follow the mentioned below as follows:

Type the following command and press ENTER.

    Chkdsk /r

Note: Chkdsk /r command erases / corrupted hard disk data corrections. Some of your personal files/data may be erased.

  • System Restore utility cannot restore to restore point

I am under Windows XP SP 3 and have a disconcerting problem.  (SR) system restore will not restore my system to an earlier time.  SR is activated and creates automatic restore points every day, and I can also create points of restoration on request.  But when I actually try to restore the system to one of these points, the RS utility is unable to do with the useless message that it was impossible to restore my PC to an earlier time and no changes to my PC.  I suspect that some interviews I've done recently is the culprit.  I downloaded and installed a maintenance of Uniblue software, including Registry Booster and Rescue Disk.  The first is an optimizer registry/cleaner and my PC doesn't seem to work faster as well.  The latter is a disk defragmentation tool, and when it runs, it displays the names of files and folders, as it reorganizes.  I noticed it was the defrag the System Volume Information folder, including RPxxxx files, which of course contain restore point information.  (It is my understanding that the System Volume Information folder is not available for normal Windows interface and how this tool is there to do for maintenance is a mystery to me.)  But since I have used these two tools, the RS utility has not completed a restoration successfully.  It doesn't matter if I try to restore to a prior restore point or after the time when the interview was made.  I can create a restore point and immediately try to restore it with negative results.  I uninstalled the software Uniblue, but that did not fix my problem.  How can I overcome this severe limitation and recover the critical capacity of system restore?  Thank you very much...

I've never seen Vista for more than a few minutes, but it is a fairly common problem with XP.  It is usually not a problem to Microsoft at all.

(You are in a group XP... Vista forums are here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsvista)

Here is my copy/paste standard for an XP system with the problem described by capehaze13 above.  Maybe it will give you some ideas or to reflect:

Some tools AV 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.

For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:

Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...

It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:

    http://Service1.Symantec.com/support/sharedtech.nsf/pfdocs/2005113009323013

Depending on what you use for malware protection, you will maybe disable the product temporarily, make the system restore and then turn on the product.

Sometimes, you will need boot mode safe, and while that your protection programs do not, then do the system restore.  Microsoft refers to this in some of their writings too and it works sometimes favorably (do the system restore in Mode safe that is).

Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.

Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.

No matter what you use, I do so and then only begin to solve any problems:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/

    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

It can be uninstalled later if you wish.

The scans by operating clean, reboot, test and we can fix any other issues.

Do not guess what the problem might be - understand and resolve it. I need YOUR voice and the points for helpful answers and propose responses. I'm saving for a pony!

The microsoft logo is on the screen with the Green crossing bar and two (yellow & green) Flash on the computer. How long the process will take from the beginning to the end before I give up? Minutes? You may need to disable it.

    Restore point:

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

  • My restoration of systems said that it cannot restore the dates, I've tried. What could be the problem?

I played Solitaire Easter when my XP screen turned blue with the notice of a serious error had occurred.  One proposed remedy has been remove recently installed software and that was AVG Linkscanner and use the systems I tried using two different dates, which brought the response that systems of restoration cannot restore to each date.  What would prevent restore work systems?

    Hi MissLizz,

Thanks for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

It would be great if you can answer the following questions:

    1. What is the accurate and complete error message when you received the blue screen of death?

    2. What is the full and exact error message when you try to do a system restore?

I suggest to refer to the article and follow the steps in advanced troubleshooting to solve the problem with the system restore:

Steps of troubleshooting for problems when you try to use the System Restore tool in Windows XP

I hope this helps. Let us know if you need more assistance.

  • cannot restore from the previous date says computer is unprotected I just get rid of the virus of audit system

rid of virus check system but cannot restore the computer to the previous date

You never said how you got rid of the "System Check" malware. As far as we know, he is still there. Follow these instructions (if you have not already done so):

Also, as Jose pointed out, there are programs that are designed to interfere with the system restore (Norton is one of the most common). But there are really two questions. First of all, we will treat your malware problem. We can always revisit SR at a later date.
Finally, even once as Jose pointed out, you NEVER run the system restore after the removal of the malware! Which could only bring him back! That you have to turn it off and then put it again, which will REMOVE all previous restore points. You really all gone!

I saw that error and even if it says access denied it will actually save your changes.  After you disable all move forward and apply then restart and see if it kept the changes.  If it's not then I hope that you are able to borrow a disc it would in time look for resettlement. If you have problems with the system restore, this can help you:

    1. If you are using Norton, you should disable Norton inviolable Protection before using the system restore.

  • Cannot redownload trial after system restore

I had downloaded CC as well as Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects as trial versions, and very well without any problem, they launched. However, my computer went through a restoration of the system (at an earlier date) and now these programs are no longer on my computer. CC is always installed, and it keeps acting like it updates all three, but he throws any of them; and they appear as programs in my control panel (0 search results).

I thought I could solve this problem with a simple redownload the site, but apparently he thinks I still have programs installed and refuses to do. No idea what I need to do? My trial is wasting away!

I use this on a PC with Windows 8.

    Hi hmiller61615_,

Run the Creative Cloud ( http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html ) cleaning tool to remove all/all CC products installed.

Also delete Adobe Application Manager. Download the MAO from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4773

    And then install the product.

  • Cannot restore from a backup

I cannot restore from a backup and don't know why.

I have a Crucial SSD of BX100 in my mid 2010 MacBook Pro. It is divided into two partitions. I got Snow Leopard on a partition and Yosemite on the other. For some reason any I've never understood the Snow Leopard guarded beachballing partition. This happened if often that I decided to wipe the disk and reinstall from my backup, do it before the beachballing began to occur.

But I can't restore. I wiped the drive of a Snow Leopard system, repaired and reformatted. The drive is not Core Storage, this is Mac OS extended (journaled). When I try to restore the restore on it works for about two minutes and then stops. Finally, I get a message saying that the disc has been ejected incorrectly.

I noticed that when I receive information on the drive, an element appears different from other readers and which corresponds to the element, owners enabled: no each other drive I've seen says owners enabled: Yes. Is it all just because there is no system on the partition?

Also "ignore ownership on this Volume" must be checked or unchecked?

Suggestions welcomed, I am baffled by this.

    Snow Leopard erase and install

    1. Insert the Snow Leopard DVD in the optical drive and restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after hearing the chime hold down the C key.
    3. Release the button when the Apple logo appears and wait for loading to complete.
    4. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the continue button. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu.  After disk utility charges select the entry out-bumpy in the list aside (mfgr. size ID and disc drive.)  In the right side of the disk utility window, click the Partition tab.  Set the number of sheets to (1) on the menu drop down. Click the Options button and select GUID, click on OK, the value of the Mac OS Extended journaled format type. Finally, click on the apply button.
    5. Once the format is complete, quit disk utility.  Continue with the installation of OS X and follow the directions.
    6. Once installation is complete, the computer will restart in the installation wizard. After completing the Setup Wizard, you will use a new installation of Snow Leopard. Open the software update and install updates recommended.
    7. If you plan to sell or to give to your remote computer, then proceed as follows: once you reformat your hard disk and reinstall Snow Leopard, the computer restarts with a welcome screen. To leave the Mac in a State OOTB (Out Of The Box), do not continue with the Setup program. Instead, press the command and Q keys to stop the computer. The installation wizard will guide you the new owner through the installation procedure, after that it turns on the computer.
    8. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 updated Combo. If necessary. It is not necessary if you are selling or giving your computer away.
