Capture several layers of application on a virtual machine

Another newbee question. I'm following the VMware Horizon Mirage App layer v4.0 capture guidelines on page 9 where he describes the process if you are going to use a virtual machine, so you can capture several layers of app. I followed steps 1 - create own reference machine, install Client Mirage and centralize the unit to a CVD of reference; 2 take a snapshot of the State of cleanliness; 3. in the MMC, use the launch App layer Capture (actually called Capture App layer in the commune of assistants, unless I'm mistaken) option... Here's where I hit a roadblock. Unit is a CVD of reference, the wizard takes me to select from pending devices, and I can't access the device but it is located in the area of reference CVD. The virtual machine itself also appears in Devices.Do assigned I must withdraw from somewhere? I'm confused !

To capture an application tier, you must have 'reference' machine in a wait state. To capture a base layer, you must have the machine of 'reference' centralized as a reference machine. It's a little confusing. You can use the same machine to capture both types of layers. You can remove the reference CVD of inventory and it will appear in the expectation of devices.

  • Shortcut to the Application on the virtual machine

    Hello

I wonder if it is possible to have shortcuts on my dock that points to an application installed on a Windows 7 VM?

When the user clicks the shortcut, VMWare Fusion is open, the Windows 7 VM boot and application loading?

If so, what would be the shortcut text?

    Thanks in advance.

When you run an application when the Virtual Machine is for unity a Dock tile for the app shows on the dock and you can ctrl-click it and select Options > keep in the Dock and use it to open this app if the Virtual Machine is running or not.  Of course after that, if the Virtual Machine does not work it will be started and then the application open.

  • is it possible that an application on a virtual machine is faster than in its host?

To measure the performance of our software on vmware, compare us the performance of vm compared to its host machine.

We found that performance on three different machines showed a very different behavior, of 50% slower at 10% slower.

And the strangest thing is that there is a single machine, his vm is faster than its host.

Any help on the possible reasons is appreciated!

    Thank you!

    Additional information:

    The application is time CPU,.

CentOS 6.2 for the vm and host,

    VMware Workstation 10.0.1 build-1379776

    Hardware Dell R720VM vs host
    Xeon 2 CPU E5-2620 0 @ 2.00 GHz 12-Core, 32 GB-50%
    Xeon 2 E5-2650 V2 2.60 GHz, 16 Core CPU, 32 GB-10%
    Xeon 2 E5-2630 0 @ 2.30 GHz, 12 Core CPU, 64 GB20%

After eliminating the various factors, we finally understood the cause: hyper threading

After that we switched off the hyper threading, everything became normal, the slower and faster virtual machines showed same performance.

Host performance has even improved, about 10-20% faster than the virtual machine.

Hope that this experience and this information can be useful for others in the future...

  • AppVolumes 2.7 do not keep the applications installed on virtual machine provisioning

using AppVolumes 2.7 - Windows 7 for the machine provisioning, R2 2012 Windows for the Manager,

Everything works fine until I have install an application on the provisioning server, once I click Ok to restart, the application disappears. Gone!

Tried, local administrator permissions, domain administrator permissions. Both allow me to install an application with involved AppVolumes and reboot several times, and the application is still there.

Once the option of commissioning is added applications will not be installed when you restart.

    Any thoughts?

I only noted 2.7 also, but I always come back to clean once finished snapshot.

    who says to run:

    blackberry-airpackager -uninstallApp bar_file_name -device IP_address

However, when I ran the following, I got an error:

    Thanks for your help.

    Hey moshek,

to uninstall an application, you use the blackberry-deploy instead of the blackberry airpackager tool to uninstall applications of the Simulator. call the following command, and it should do the job:

    >"C:\Program Files\Blackberry Tablet OS SDK\blackberry-tablet-sdk-0.9.1\bin\blackberry-deploy" -uninstallApp -package AIRHelloWorld.bar -device 192.168.56.138

Make sure that you are in the directory where the .bar file. hope that helps! Good luck!

  • Orchestrator can be used to deploy applications in virtual machines?

    Hey guys,.

It is a matter of general features.  I spent a few hours trying to figure the best technology to use for deployment of applications within virtual machines.  It looks like vFabric Application Director would be the * best *, but I am also looking to vCenter Orchestrator.  He seems mature, but I don't know if it can be used to deploy applications within a virtual machine (for example, install IIS in a Windows Server 2008 VM).

Any input would be appreciated, marketing white papers are not totally clear!

    Thank you

    Drew

You can use the workflow operations comments to run commands install or a complete script to do. This says that you can also use vCO to orchestrate the Application Director as part of an workflow provisioning of end-to-end.

  • The research of virtual machines in several VCs

    Hello

I always connect with VCs several at a time looking for virtual machines (4 to 5 VCs).

Even if I found a virtual machine, I need re search using the name of the cluster or host name to find the name of VC.

So is it possible to get the virtual machine with the details in which VC he resides.

    I usually like this...

    Connect-viserver vc01 vc02, vc04 vc03-name of user-pass password

Then use get - vm to find the virtual machine.

We have no naming convention right to find the Victoria Cross using the Cluster name, the name of VM still host name.

You can get the vCenter like this

    Get-VM |Select Name,@{N="vCenter";E={$_.Uid.Split(":")[0].Split("@")[1]}}

  • Open with: 'Application name' - 'Name of the Virtual Machine' (2.0.4) AND (2.0.5)

    Hello

    Looking for help here...

I notice that if I try to open a file on my Mac with an application of my virtual machine (Win XP Professional) I get 2 options for each windows application:

    1. Windows Media Player - Windows XP Professional (2.0.4)

    2. Windows Media Player - Windows XP Professional (2.0.5)

The 2.0.4 option never works but the 2.0.5 option. I know this has something to do with the upgrade to the latest 2.0.5 version, but how do you / is it possible to remove the non-fonctionnel 2.0.4 options?

    Help, please! It's pretty boring.

I have only haveone of virtual machine set up.

    Rich

Make sure that the virtual machine is turned off and not suspended.  First locate the virtual machine in the finder.  You can do it by Ctrlclicking on it from the library of the virtual machine and choose Show in Finder.  In Finder Ctrlthe .vmwarevm of the virtual machine and choose "show package content".  If some shows as a folder go there.  Of in the virtual machine folder, you will see a folder named Applications.  Applications are the links to the Applications that you open in the virtual machine.  Remove vouchers there should do.  You may be able to determine the good by the update and the last number should be also the most recent.  These changes to take effect, you will need to reboot or restart the finder.  To restart the finder press and hold Esc, command,Option, and choose finder in there and restart.

You can also just delete the Applications folder and then start the virtual machine.  Once that the virtual machine is started just enter the unit.  Entering the unit will recreate this Applications folder with the correct files in there.  You should always restart or restart the finder once this is done before it takes effect in the mac operating system.

  • The Exchange 2010 on Esxi 5.0 virtual machine snapshot

    Dear Experts,

We have Exchange 2010 VM under windows 2008 R2 on Esxi 5.0. I need to make the updates of windows on this machine. I want to inform if it is okay to take instant Exchange 2010 machine before performing windows updates and then delete the snapshot once the updates are performed successfully, OR it is not good to go for the snapshot and back problems due to the behavior of the application exchange 2010 I/O.

Please let know us your opinion.

    Kind regards

    Jocelyn

But by the way in this case once the updates are successful and we want to remove the snapshot that we took earlier by turning off the virtual machine, to remove again he must turn off the Exchange 2010 VM?

No, you don't have to. turn off the functions of the virtual machine as a precaution to ensure that you capture a consistent instant State of the virtual machine and it is the system of files/databases, in the cases where you may need to restore the virtual computer. It is not necessary when the snapshot is deleted.

Towards the end of the removal of snapshot operation, the virtual machine will be soon stun/unstunned to merge the last exceptional blocks into the basic disk. This basically any time a break the VM to stop him from delivering IO and the creation of delta data more, but it's transparent to the client (similar to a vMotion). You can see a loss of ping or two, or clusters of DAG can initiate a failover the virtual machine is a little inaccessible, but it should be no. impact on or be heard by the customer.

Merging delta of the snapshot in the basic disk can take a long time, depending on how big the delta grew at the same time and the amount of data continues to be changed upon removal. The process will put some additional IO load on the storage, so I recommend you usually do the delete operation during off-peak hours. Also, make sure that you have enough free space on the data store to meet the growth of delta file.

If we don't take any snapshot for this virtual machine, we can also directly proceed the updates of windows as we do in the event of physical Exchange Server, right?

Yes, there is no difference for physical systems in this regard.

  • You can hide virtual machine within a program?

I tried to play Sword of the New World on a virtualized xp platform.  I think I had it finally work because Direct X 9 works well and it didn't crash at startup.  However, it is an online game and safety online and measures anti-piracy captured that he was running on a virtual machine, and he said something to the effect of, "Sorry, you cannot run this program on a virtual machine."  I think that a program should not be biased against virual machines, after all, what have ever to it?  The program is called x-trap BTW.  I don't want to try to work around x-trap by disabling or other because it might compromise my account.  However, I would like to know if I can hide the fact that the game runs in a virtual machine of the game.

Any suggestion would be appreciated and we thank you in advance.

    Then, you must provide info...

This app in question can check for

    • detect the VMware-backdoor - can be turned off in line mentioned in vmx

    • check for typical virtual hardware - oh dear - it's hard to avoid--exactly what device it scans for - there may be ways

  • Allocate multiple cores of the only host for CPU on a virtual machine

    Hello

You don't know if it is possible, but could find is not online.

An application on my virtual machine uses only a carrot and I want to accelerate.

Add more cores on this virtual machine is meaningless, to that effect, I would like to allocate multiple cores of the host that will act as a single core on the virtual machine.

    Is this possible?

    Thank you

    Herman

As already stated above, this is not possible, and you have two options:

    1 buy a new CPU with a clock higher;

    2. that your application works with multiple processors.

  • default virtual machine resource allocation

    Hi all

I have a host vmware with 64 GB Ram and 12x2.799GHZ cpu cores with 12 VCPU known as multithreading is not active

When I create a virtual machine with the default settings (there is no reservation or limitation)

    (1) in the tab of the virtual machine resource allocation I see 4167 MB of memory host and 4096 MB of memory comments

-Why the host memory is only about 4 GB so I have 64 GB of physical memory, which is displayed on the summary of the host tab

-When I create a virtual machine with the default settings it should be able to use all the resources I'm wrong? in my case, it should be able to use 64 GB of ram

    (2) with the default settings, the virtual machine has only 1 VCPU

-does that mean that the virtual machine will be able to use speed 1 VCPU? for example, if my vm has a lot of work and it may be necessary to use 3 GHz so I'll have to add virtual vcpu another machine? as the speed of a vcpu is 2.8 Ghz am I bad?

    -If I activate multithreading I 24 VCPU

each vcpu speed will be (2.799 / 2)?  without active multithreading I have 12 vcpu each 2,799 GHz

    Please clarify for me

    Hello

You asked a few questions, so that questions will be answered inline

) in the tab of the virtual machine resource allocation, I see 4167 MB of memory host and 4096MB of memory comments

So I guess that you have created a virtual machine with 4 GB of memory (windows 2008 64 bit R2 virtual machine default settings). For this purpose of resource allocation tab 4 GB (4096 MB) of comments. The virtual machine is like a container, providing a configured together to programs and the operating system inside the virtual machine. If memory watch kernel scheduler is 4096MB is available for this customer.

Now, the kernel needs to use little memory to run the virtual machine, it's called an airline booking memory and is in your case 71 MB, therefor the memory footprint of this virtual machine in the VMkernel (memory of the host) is 4096 + 71 = 4167 MB MB

-Why the host memory is only about 4 GB so I have 64 GB of physical memory, which is displayed on the summary of the host tab

This is because you have provided that the virtual machine 4 GB, it's the "use-space" for the virtual machine guest OS to run in. It cannot expand beyond the limit of the virtual machine.

-When I create a virtual machine with the default settings it should be able to use all the resources I'm wrong? in my case, it should be able to use 64 GB of ram

If there is no claim, where the demand for resources is less than the provision of resources, the scheduler memory is going to provide the virtual machine, the resources that it requires, and that can go up to 4096 MB, as this is the limit of the container.

A vCPU runs on a physical basis and may not exceed, for this purpose if you need to have several cycles availble cpu for your virtual machine, you must configure the virtual machine with more than 1 vCPU.

    -If I activate multithreading I 24 VCPU

each vcpu speed will be (2.799 / 2)?  without active multithreading I have 12 vcpu each 2,799 GHz

A vCPU can be scheduled on a full physical core or on an element of hyperthreading (SMT), this is done by the VMkernel CPU scheduler. It is completely transparent for the virtual machine.

Remember that the default settings are a few recommendations, they are not strict guidelines.

  • Question on networks of Virtual Machine

I have a host machine running Windows 7. I installed VMware player and I create a virtual computer running Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5 (almost identical to the version 5.5 of Red Hat). In the end I will be installing an application on the virtual machine that is not compatible with DHCP. So, when I install OEL 5.5 I need to manually provide information from network devices (IP address, primary DNS, subnet mask and host name). I've done it before on successfully on a material physical but never before on a virtual machine. On my first attempt I was wrong and my web browser running on the virtual machine can connect to the Internet.

My instructions say "set the gateway information based on the IP Address of the gateway router. I wonder if this is correct in view of the virtual machine.

On the machine host, when I run the ipconfig command in the DOS window I see a mask of address and the IP subnet for the host, and I see two additional network adapters for VMware (VMnet1 and VMnet8). The three entries (for example, the host VMnet1 and VMnet8) have the same subnet mask value and different IP addresses (first two segments of the IP addresses are the same, third and fourth segments are different).

My question is, what are VMWare network cards and I have to pay attention to these IP addresses when I manually configure networking on the virtual machine?

VMware Player provides essentially 3 types of network connections:

    • 'The bridge' - directly connected to your router
    • "Host-Only' (VMnet1) - limited to the host and the virtual machines network
    • "NAT" (VMnet8) - network address translation

VMnet1 and VMnet8 virtual cards that allow the host to communicate with the virtual machines and vice versa.

Depending on if your virtual machine should be accessible from other systems, you can consider using (in - and outgoing) Bridged or NAT (outgoing mail). With Bridged networking, addresses are usually provided by your router/DHCP server. For NAT, the address of the gateway/DNS is 192.168.x.2. Since the VMware Server DHCP internal for NAT and Host-Only uses 192.168.x.128... 254 for dynamic addressing, you want to select a static address in the 192.168.x.3... range 127.

The easiest way to find out how to correctly configure the network, must first set the operating system to DHCP, note gatherings settings and then just choose another IP address when you configure static settings.

    André.

  • Run a remote command on a virtual machine

I have a remote application that generated virtual machines by request. After that each machine is generated and custom, I need to run a command-line on this machine (machine all have Windows OS installed) of the application itself.

Is there a way to do it through the java/vsphere API?  (The machine is running on)

    Thank you

the vSphere API does not provide capabilities to execute commands within the guestOS which is what uses the SDK for Java (VMware Tech Preview of Java SDK) and VI (Version of Steve Jin).

However, VMware has an another API that is available for the management of comments called VIX API. This API allows you to perform operations within the guest, transfer files to/from host, etc. There is even a project open source similar to that of VI Java API called Toolkit Java VIX you could look in - http://sourceforge.net/projects/vixjava/
