Run a remote command on a virtual machine
I have a remote application that generated virtual machines by request. After that each machine is generated and custom, I need to run a command-line on this machine (machine all have Windows OS installed) of the application itself.
Is there a way to do it through the java/vsphere API? (The machine is running on)
Thank you
the vSphere API does not provide capabilities to execute commands within the guestOS which is what uses the SDK for Java (VMware Tech Preview of Java SDK) and VI (Version of Steve Jin).
However, VMware has an another API that is available for the management of comments called VIX API. This API allows you to perform operations within the guest, transfer files to/from host, etc. There is even a project open source similar to that of VI Java API called Toolkit Java VIX you could look in - http://sourceforge.net/projects/vixjava/

Run a Windows command on all virtual machines
Using PowerCLI, is it possible to run a Windows command on all virtual machines? I would like to hiberbation disabled on all my servers as it is unnecessary and take up disk space. Running powercfg-h off will do, but I really want to do it on all 200 of my VM.
I can't seem to find the option in group policy, so I was hoping that this could be an option.
The above posts are excellent resolutions. Here is another possible approach.
You can do this with a Powershell script. Something like this should work:
The list of virtual machines:
SE connect-ViServer here VCenter server name
$vms = get - VM
If you have installed Powershell and PSRemoting enabled on each virtual machine, run the following:
$vms | foreach-object {Invoke-Command - ComputerName $_.} Name - ScriptBlock {powercfg - h}
If you have not installed Powershell and PSRemoting on each virtual machine, use WMI:
foreach ($vm to $vms)
{
$vmName = $vm. Name
(\[WMIClass\] ")
(' $vmName\ROOT\CIMV2: Win32_Process "). Create ("cmd /c powercfg - h)}
You should probably use the WMI method since it is unlikely that all of your virtual machines have Powershell installed and configured for remote access.

Hello
I wanted to run vista on the same computer; but on a virtual machine. I wanted to know if I should buy a seprate key. I was perplexed because it is on the same computer at home. I wanted to use it for personal use as run the operating system on the virtual machine for programs to avoid viruses and use it kind of like a backup. I asked around only to meddle with the answers. Many people need to know the right answer to this question. Oh guys please keep this thread alive for others!

Run the script file from a virtual machine
Hello
I have a script (c:\script.ps1) I want to run on a virtual machine. Can someone tell me how to do?
When I want to run the single command on vm I follow these steps:
> > $cred = get-Credential
> > Invoke-VMScript - win1 VM - GuestCredential $cred - ScriptText "dir".
but I don't know how to put the script in a variable so that I can place it after the parameter - ScriptText.
PS Script is not on the virtual machine, it's on the computer I have installed PowerCLI.
LucD thanks for help
I managed to do this way:
$script = Get-Content - Path C:\script.ps1 | Out-string
Invoke-VMScript - win1 VM - GuestCredential $cred - $script ScriptText
without out-String I received the error "failed to convert System.Object [] to the System.String type.

Local and remote to the same virtual machine replication?
Is it possible to configure replication for a virtual machine to replicate locally and remotely?
For example:
ServerA is my server I need to replicate.
I set up replication for this VM ServerA to storage replicated in the same site (local)
I opened the replication again for ServerA VM and I can only see/manage this replication.
I would like to reproduce ServerA VM offisite in a remote cluster of VCenter for DR purposes.
Is this possible? What I am doing wrong?
same source VM cannot be replicated on the two sites with vSphere replication targets.
If you use replication level storage table between the source to the target and the second replication, you use the replication of vSphere, it would be a different story.

Remote access to the virtual machine from another computer?
is it possible to access my virtual machine, I have on my desk from the local network on a Bill pro forma raspberry for example or this kind of a thing is not possible?
VMware Workstation (or player) is needed on the source machine, i.e. one on which the virtual machine is running. Access to a properly configured VM trough the network is essentially the same as the access to a physical system.

Sorry if this has been requested a lot of times before, it was difficult to try to sift through responses to this particular configuration through research.
I have a MacBook which double - start by training camp. I generally run Windows but do have occasional need to pop in Mac.
Is there a way to get my Mac running as a virtual machine in Windows partition? I've seen a lot of discussion of the scenario opposed using Mac and Fusion, but not found on my installation.
Thanks in advance for any help, especially if it's the ten thousandth time it was requested.
Within the limits of your question, it is not supported by VMware. That means that the only product from VMware that supports the legal vitualization of legally virtualisables versions of Mac OS X is VMware Fusion when run under Mac OS X on a Mac to processor Intel.
In addition, if it's not Mac OS X Server 10.5, 10.6. 10.7 or Client Mac OS X 10.7, so he is not allowed by the Apple ALS and cannot therefore be discussed in these forums without violating the terms of use of the VMware community.

Physical running Windows 7 install as a virtual machine
Is it possible to run a Windows 7 OS installed previously as a virtual machine inside a linux host?
I don't want to convert the physical system to a virtual machine. On the contrary, I want to be able to start installing natively both run like a VM when necessary, everything that can be done on a Mac with bootcamp/Fusion.
If this is possible, what warnings are there? I have seen support articles to do this for Windows XP profiles and hardware but I don't think that would apply to Windows 7.
Thank you!
With the license of the company, Windows will ask for reactivation when you switch between the VM and the native boot?
I think that he won't complain or request you the reactivation.
VMware Workstation has a computer Assistant virtual for putting in place of an existing installation of physics?
No - you create a new Win 7 VM and specify to use a physical disk.
First boot you will most likely meet a BSOD. You post the number of BSOD here - we help.
That will have to be repeated several times and if you're lucky - or use a physical host and Intel-chipset - ultimately both variants work.
If you have no luck pilots to start in a VM setting will result in a normal start unusable...
Stupid question: why do you want to use the original installation within a virtual machine also?
It doesn't have a single advantage over simply configure a fresh Windows 7 VM.
The times where dualbooting Windows natively, so much as a virtual machine have been fun are gone forever after Vista was introduced...

to run a spare drive in a virtual machine?
In a Fedora 11 vm on vmware workstation, I made a mistake by modifying a file. Therefore, the startup process is not complete. I want to get the virtual machine to boot from a rescue disk (the Fedora 11 install disk or any liveCD in fact). I tried to load the installation disc, and navigation in the settings of the virtual machine from CD, but it was ignored. Is there a way to do this?

The BIOS boot screen happens so quickly that it is almost impossible to enter the BIOS setup without running the virtual machine-> power-> power on BIOS option. (See screenshot)

How to run commands inside a virtual machine?
Hey,.
I train hard run commands inside a machine virtual on vSphere (batch scripts) and could not find a good way to do it,
in ESX 3.5 "vmrun.exe" did the job, but it does not work on vSphere for some reason any.
I also tried to do with PowerCLI but could not find any help for this command.
Am I missing something?
Maybe my syntax of the command is wrong and someone can give me the proper syntax?
Im sure there is a way to do it and would appreciate any help that anyone can give me.
Thank you very much in advance,
Omer
vmrun must work with vSphere, in fact, vSphere is the only version of ESX that vmrun (and the VIX API, on which is built vmrun) officially supports. ESX 3.5 is only experimental support.
Please make sure you have the latest version of VIX installed; You can find it at www.vmware.com/go/vix.
Once you have installed, if you still see an error, please post what this error is and what kind of host you are using vmrun.

SQL Developer running slow, perhaps caused by Java Virtual Machine
Hi all
Currently, I am working with SQL Developer 1.5.1 connection to an Oracle 10.2.0.2 database and it takes about 10 minutes for Developer SQL load. I believe that the problem may be due to the Java Development Kit. I've upgraded to the latest version of last week.
Versions running under Java settings is:
After reviewing other posts here, I ran SQL Developer with the console and messages that are as follows:1.6 1.6.0_15 http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe true 1.6 1.6.0_07 http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\javaw.exe true 1.4 1.4.2 http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2\bin\javaw.exe true
I also use a photo of the Web Site, which is not related to my work as Oracle, but for it's photo uploader also uses Java, and which is slow, that's why I think that the problem is based on Java. I would say that the problem occurred in the last two months but has gotten much worse in recent weeks. Developer SQL is slow at times, especially when I used another application and it's just in the background.Exception initializing 'oracle.ideimpl.searchbar.SearchBarAddin' in extension 'S earch Bar': TimTwo things here at first:
* JDK:
If you do not remove one sqldev used before, he always uses this one. You can change yourself in \sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf:SetJavaHome C:\Archivos programa\Java\jdk1.6.0_10
Be sue to point to a JDK, however, not a JRE that you mentioned above. Update 1.6.x generally better performance than 1.5.x update.
* GeoRaptor:
You installed this extension and it's errors. If you don't need or it doesn't work anymore, better to disable it in preferences - Extensions. The NullPointerException in SearchBarAddin is already for several versions, but dev seems not very motivated to solve. Just ignore it.
If you still see exceptions after checking the JDK and GeoRaptor, or sqldev is still useless, do come back and give some details about the memory usage.Hope that helps,

Virtual machine is unable to ping host on vSphere5.1 fresh install
Hello
I did a new install of vSphere 5.1 (previously 4.1 installed that works well). No vCenter for now.
Running a virtual machine on LAN Paessler PRTG under Win 2 k 3 x 64.
This virtual machine has been moved from 4.1 to 5.1, nothing has changed.
This virtual machine can't ping the host. No monitoring WMI class too.
A physical computer on the LAN can ping on host vSphere with no problems.
What's wrong?
Thank you
Vincent
According to the screenshots, the subnet mask, you use in your local network is 255.255.0.0. As a first step, please run ipconfig / all in the virtual machine to verify that the virtual machine is configured with the same subnet mask. Secondly, run the ping command from the virtual machine, rattling of its own IP to see if it succeeds.
BTW. What type/model of virtual network adapter is configured for the virtual computer?

Hi casolorz,
He has since vSphere 5.0 API managed object GuestOperationsManager , which currently provides three categories of manager API, each represented by its own managed object.
You want to take a look at the GuestProcessManager of managed objects. You will find the StartProgramInGuest method that should meet your requirement.
