case of disaster with backup rman and archivelogs

Salvation;

When the disk failure comes and drop everything on disks, if we have a cold backup and logs archiving ONLY after a cold backup up to disk failure, we can restore files (datafiles, controlfile and everything) and apply to these cold backup archive logs and make the database updated up to the failure of disks.

I had this case in real life, and it works.

but

What happens if you don't have backup rman online that was taken before the failure of disk instead of cold backup and archive logs that was created after the backup online up to the failure of the drive.

We can restore the online of rman backup files, but can we apply archive logs to these restored files to update the database to the disk failure?

Best regards

Use the SET clause UNTIL - for example the VALUE up to TIME - before running the command RECOVER the DATABASE.

See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10643/rcmsubcl019.htm#i1000331

and example 4-38 on the same page.

  • Full RMAN and Archivelog backups

    I'm scripting rman of my stuff and it is a much larger part of an interview of Perl. I have all night and schedules of jobs. Every night will make a full and hourly backup will do archivelog backup. Full backups take about 2-3 hours.
    My question is: is there a problem with running in archivelog backups run while I do a full backup. If the system resources are not a problem, what are some arguments for or against?

    One of two simultaneous backups can sometimes fail with

    "ORA-00230: forbidden operation: snapshot control file queue unavailable."

    When you attempt to update the controlfile.

  • Performance on the backups RMAN and LOBs

    Hi all

    We have 4 data nodes (11.2.0.3) running on a RHEL. The db has 2.5TBs, and we realized that the backup incremental level 1 takes too long to complete. Doing some research, we found a few posts saying that, during a backup of a segment, if this same segment has a large number of business segments (and that's our case... a large number of business segments) and backup compression (we use COMPRESSION to CONFIGURE ALGORITHM 'HIGH' OPTIMIZE for LOAD REAL EN BROADCAST 'DEFAULT') this backup even can take much longer than an uncompressed backup. What I would like to know, is if you have had an equal experience and if you change the algorithm of compression to zero, the backup will run faster.

    PS - the entry and exit of the backup is disk.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello;

    Yes is the simple answer.

    SELECT
      ALGORITHM_NAME,
      ALGORITHM_DESCRIPTION,
      IS_DEFAULT
    FROM
      V$RMAN_COMPRESSION_ALGORITHM;

    Compression can take a long time depending on the stored data. Try to compress a file zip for example, it is generally slower on the second pass.

  • Incremental backup RMAN and compression

    RMAN compresses data for additional membership 0 and level 1 backups. Specifically - can I use advanced compression if olny use incremental backups?

  • System Restore (with backup) for Windows XP how to restore the files from here?

    I saw the other posts for this but they have not answered the question. When I look in the C drive, and open the folder backup (backup C:\My--01/12/23 1134 AM), my photos, videos and documents are not available or are invisisble. When I tried to make hidden files visible, all my desktop icons and all the Start Menu program buttons disappear. I can see the files when I search with a software such as jdiskreport - 1.4.0, but I'm unable to move with this program. When I tried to move them with jdisk... they is locked in the tree of files of jdiskreport. Whenever these trees of missing or file icons has locked, I had to restore to the good previous restore point. In my view, the full restoration of the system (with backup) fails and should be avoided at all costs.

    So, if someone knows a way to access these files, I would appreciate the help of course. And please, no answers don't like "cannot not you just copy and paste?" because it is not currently a solution until the files are visible without erasing my desktop and the Start Menu.

    Hello

    Select the advanced restore options to restore the files. See the steps in the following article.

    You don't seem to have a level 0 incremental script.  You would need a level 0 are common (for example weekly or fortnlightly) who would act as the base line for the differential level 1 cumulative runs.  (i.e. a level 0 backup is needed because it must be restored first before restoring level 1 incremental backup).  The full monthly database backup script CAN act as the base line of level 0 to level 1 incremental backups.

    (I wonder what made the monthly script, when it changes the hourly script at beginning and end).

    The backup failed, run the 02/02 was certainly a truncated - script as if the script was in the Middle being changed.

  • Execution of disaster with RMAN recovery

    Hello

    http://kamranagayev.WordPress.com/2010/03/29/RMAN-video-tutorial-series-performing-disaster-recovery-with-RMAN/

    I want to do the same thing available in the link above. But my ways little different since I use asm as the storage.

    ex: -.

    SQL > select name from v$ controlfile;

    NAME
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    +Data/proddb/controlfile/current.258.730005353
    +Arch/proddb/controlfile/current.258.730005353

    but my new database server is not configured for asm.

    I can do the same thing by changing the path of the path parameter file everything I love in the dr site?
    Or
    I need to create a storage asm for the same thing?

    My attempt to base is to check the rman backup on a daily basis by restoring to a separate database.

    Any ideas...? can someone give me a help to do this please... If you have any good tutorial as above, please report it here.

    Thanks in advance,
    Max

    but my new database server is not configured for asm.

    I can do the same thing by changing the path of the path parameter file everything I love in the dr site?

    Do not create instance ASM (also diskgroup). You have full backup, then this means that you can restore this backup to any location and there is no difference restore backup any file system or ASM. Yes as above Hemant mentioned, you can use The VALUE of NEWNAME clause. If you have a lot of data file, then I suggest that you use the DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and DUPLICATION of RMAN initialization parameter. But consider now that your database running in the ASM then take full to simple (not ASM) backup file system as BACKUP of DATABASE ARCHIVELOG FORMAT ' / u01/backup/full_ % d_ % u_ .bk %s '; (also take controlfile backup or activate backup AUTOMATIC). Now copy all the backup on the new server and

    /*Restoring spfile*/
    export ORACLE_SID=
    rman target /
    startup force nomount;
    restore spfile  from 'AUTOBACKUP_LOCATION';
    /*After restoring spfile then connect using sqlplus
    and change need parameter like CONTROL_FILES and others
    due to this is not ASM FS and again*/
    startup force nomount;
    restore controlfile from 'AUTOBACKUP_LOCATION';
    alter database mount;
    /*catalog backup*/
    catalog start with 'backup_location';
    /*Now change datafile location*/
    run
    {
    set newname for datafile 1 to 'new location';
    .............................................................
    set newname for datafile n to 'new location';
    }
    restore database;
    switch datafile all;
    recover database;
    alter database open resetlogs;

  • Restore to another node with RMAN and EMC Networker

    Please, really need help :)

    I took hotbackup using the RMAN catalog who went to Ribbon. Here's the script to this:

    connect target sys /***@PROD;*
    connect rcvcat rman /***@catalog;*
    * run {*}
    allocate channel t1 type 'SBT_TAPE ';
    Send ' NSR_ENV = (NSR_SERVER = '* ', NSR_DATA_VOLUME_POOL = Oracle)'; *
    * backup database more archivelog; *
    * output channel t1; *
    *}*

    My settings include the following control file autobackup:

    * RMAN & gt; View all; *

    RMAN configuration data are: *.
    CONFIGURE THE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY OF 10 DAYS WINDOW; *
    CONFIGURE THE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION # by default *.
    CONFIGURE THE DEFAULT DISK DEVICE TYPE; *
    * CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP. *
    * CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' AT ' /NMO_%F/';*

    CONFIGURE THE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY NONE; # by default *.
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME to ' /data/backups/PROD/hotbkp/snapcf_PROD.f';*

    I am trying to restore this backup tape (EMC Networker) to a different node. I can do this outside Networker without any problem. However, when I try to get the tape backup, I have this problem:

    1 initPROD.ora is created and changed accordingly on a new server

    2 export sid, startup nomount on new server

    export ORACLE_SID = PROD (on server)

    Make a list command to see if the backup controlfile is on the tape.

    RMAN > list backup of controlfile;

    I suggest to read the manual of EMC Networker or call EMC on how to restore the database to another node. I am using Veritas Netbackup, it can be likened to EMC Networke for your reference. There are a few things that must be met when you restore the database to another node:
    (1) (whole DB_ID, you did
    (2) set NB_CLIENT (in your case NSR_CLIENT) on the head node from which the backup was made
    (3) configure the backup server to restore redirection between two nodes.

    I hope this helps.

  • backup rman design database with phsical ensures

    Hello

    12 c database, after physical expectation is created, I need backup rman configuration,

    The goal is: a) backup of database b) remove archivelogs that have been backed up, free up space FRA.

    Design as below:

    1:

    in RMAN (primary and standby):
    RMAN >
    Configure controlfile autobackup on;
    set the type of backup device type disk compressed backupset;
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;

    2: primary school:
    RMAN > CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY to the 5 DAY RECOVERY WINDOW;

    3: in priamry, turn on track changes to block

    4: primary, implemented since rman level 0 (full backup) on Sunday.

    5: in the primary, the installation program rman level 1 backup from Monday to Saturday.

    6: primary, set up since rman "save archive backup delete them all obsolete" every hour;

    questions here:

    1. as in step 5, for the protection of the o and delete archivelog, the script using:

    Run {}
    allocate channel d1 type disk;
    SQL 'alter system archive log current';
    overlap archivelog all;
    backup AS COMPRESSED BACKUPSET archivelog all delete them all input;
    output channel d1;
    }

    I wonder if ' archivelog all delete all entries "will delete archivelog which was not taken on the eve of the database and broken standby database

    (hanging and out-of-sync with primary)... it is a concern, is that possible?

    2. If the primary database crashed, failover to standby mode, then restore/recovery primary, switch back to the primary, this design is just? If you have any good suggestions, please let me know.

    (to put it simply, I don't want to full/incremental backup to install standby, primary server CPU is good enough)

    Thank you very much!

  • Behavior of abnormal (Tag Date and place of automatic backup) RMAN script

    Hi all

    I have 11 GR 1 material running on Sun SOLARIS 10.

    The parameter default RMAN for backup of control file is on DISK (format: u02/oracle/backup/rman/control/%F.ctl)

    I have the RMAN script following (L0.rman):
    Run {}
    allocate channels ch1 type SBT_TAPE parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.opt) ';
    tag backup "${CURRENT_DATETIME}" additional 0 filesperset 3 format 'DB_%T_%U.dbf' database more archivelog;
    output channel ch1.
    }
    host ' cp /oracle/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/network/admin/tnsnames.ora/u02/oracle/backup/rman/$(echo $CURRENT_DATETIME) /';

    This is called by the following (L0.sh) script:
    #! / bin/bash
    CURRENT_DATETIME = "$(date + 20 %y %m %d %H %M)»;) export CURRENT_DATETIME
    export ORACLE_SID = EDWH
    export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1
    mkdir/u02/oracle/backup/rman/$(echo $CURRENT_DATETIME)
    RMAN nocatalog target / cmdfile = L0.rman log = L0_EDWH_$ CURRENT_DATETIME.log

    The anomalies are as follows:

    1. the backupsets are created with a literal tag "${CURRENT_DATETIME}" instead of "201010051915" - why?
    FYI, the command 'host' at the bottom of L0.rman successfully copies the file in the right directory (/ u02/oracle/backup/rman/201010051915 /).

    2. after the backup finishes, the automatic backup for the control and spfile is taken on SBT_TAPE instead of DISK - why?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    1. well, this $CURRENT_DATETIME is variable shell, RMAN does not interpret it (she can't and doesn't have to.) HOST calls the external commands by spawning the shell in non-interactive mode and when placing the order for her, and since you have exported the variable is available to all processes having engineered and develop properly, then files are copied in the expected location. If you remove the '; CURRENT_DATETIME export"from your shell script, you will see files copied in/u02/oracle/backup rman / / because the variable will not be in the environment of the layed shell (it will be local to the script) and will expand to the empty string. You must pass $CURRENT_DATETIME to the RMAN script as a variable substitution so that the shell expands it before calling RMAN, like this:

    L0. RMAN: {code}
    Run {}
    allocate channels ch1 type SBT_TAPE parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.opt) ';
    backup format tag & 1 extra strength 0 filesperset 3 'DB_%T_%U.dbf' database archivelog;
    output channel ch1.
    }
    host ' cp /oracle/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/network/admin/tnsnames.ora/u02/oracle/backup/rman / $ CURRENT_DATETIME /';
    {code}
    L0.sh: {code}
    #! / bin/bash
    CURRENT_DATETIME = "$(date + 20 %y %m %d %H %M)»;) export CURRENT_DATETIME
    export ORACLE_SID = EDWH
    export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1
    mkdir/u02/oracle/backup/rman / $ CURRENT_DATETIME
    RMAN nocatalog target / cmdfile = L0.rman using $CURRENT_DATETIME log = L0_EDWH_$ CURRENT_DATETIME.log
    {code}

    Note the * & 1 * variable substitution in the RMAN script and * using * keyword in the RMAN command line.

    2. control file record is taken to the same media, that the last backup, this is normal. You can't "CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON the DISC" or something like that, you can only enable or disable it and specify format for various types of devices. Default device type does not play here, you are precisely the configured default device type substitution tape backup.

    If OSB burn now 5 and reach at the end of the Strip and possibly another media, media to be selected by the OSB?

    Advanced thanks.

    If I place the order obsolete in the rman script as 'delete type 'SBT_TAPE' noprompt obsolete device;' the results will be the same as your

    the syntax because rman default setting (CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY to RECOVERY WINDOW OF 3 DAYS ;) has already been fixed on the command "Show all", right? @)

    Yes.

    I use the catalog of recovery on a different database and backup script has catalog db connection string.

    And if I only use controlfile instead of recovery catalog to save the backup information and put in place "control_file_record_keep_time" a default of 7 days to 365 days, "remove obsolete" command to remove several weeks backupset works well, is it not?

    Possible problem are existing backups for several weeks if you left default control_file_record_keep_time. Change now will not help unless you catalog later manually all the old pieces not catalogued on tape backup.

    After you clean up the situation and particularly to remove obsolete in your script, rman, you will never make problems with control_file_record_keep_time from this moment. By default will do just fine because it is larger than your window of recovery.

    Kind regards

    I would like to know what is the right measures to check if ITS configured right device of ZFS, the implementation of rman backups, etc.

    I'd appreciate someone here can point me to the right document.  I read ZFS Q and A and backup using ZFS best practices. All very unclear and seems none of them provide a digital step step.

    I wonder if Oracle provides an instruction step by step for the DBA.

    Q documents & you examined include the "Oracle ZFS storage pool: FAQ: Exadata RMAN backup with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance (Doc ID 1354980.1)" Note? This note has a lot of information and is updated regularly and includes information about configuring ZFS and RMAN backups to the device of ZFS.

    Some useful books of whites, an I have used in the past and has been updated again last year: Oracle Exadata with the Sun ZFS Storage Appliance protection: best practices in Configuration and backup and recovery Performance and best practices using Sun ZFS Storage Appliance with Oracle Exadata Database Machine

    These documents will in many details - including providing examples of scripts.

  • backup RMAN with damaged block

    Hello

    First-, I have problem on non-production 11.2.0.1.0 database, so I'm not deeply concerned about data. But I need to understand what happened with database backups and how to prevent these things in the future.
    So - I have backup complete regular weekly EM and daily incremental backups. Later, he had problem with equipment and some blocks corrupted database found. The weekly backup ran without error and obsolete backups have been removed. Now, it is not possible to 'retrieve the list of corruption' because there is no backup without the corruption (RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of the data file 6 found to restore). I'm not worried about the loss of data, but I need to know how is the backup contains the corrupt blocks.

    I checked the data file using utility dbv
    DBVERIFY - Verification starting : FILE = /opt/oracle/oradata/orcl/users03.dbf

    DBV-00200: Block, DBA 27525766, already marked corrupt
    csc(0x0001.7b01729f) higher than block scn(0x0000.00000000)
    Page 2359942 failed with check code 6054

    DBVERIFY - Verification complete

    Total Pages Examined         : 3840000
    Total Pages Processed (Data) : 453896
    Total Pages Failing   (Data) : 1

    Total Pages Encrypted        : 0
    Highest block SCN            : 2156227446 (1.2156227446)
    As you can see the data file 6 - user03.dbf contains errors. Also the backups now contain errors.

    (1) so how is it possible that the scheduled backup EM took place without problems and now the backup contains corrupted blocks. How to avoid this in the future? I know there is MAXCORRUPT setting. How can I check its current value? How can I configure using backups EM on-demand?

    (2) Secondly, at the same time, I studied the RMAN commands. So I have suspended the work of backup EM and run follwing command. And backup represented without error. How is this possible, if the data in the file users06.dbf is corrupted block?

    Thank you!
    RMAN> run {
     set MAXCORRUPT for datafile 6 to 0;
     backup as compressed backupset datafile 6;

    OK, sounds good, do not hesitate to open a TAR because bedbugs are not all public...

    Keep us in the loop.

    Good bye.

  • Restore the virtual hard drive backup on a different node with different IP and host name.

    Hi guys,.
    I want to do the following.

    My reliable backup strategy is the virtual hard drive backup. The database is installed on a virtual particulay machine (node). Now, I do not take the backup of the DBF files or control files or files from archive.
    I rely on the virtual hard disk backup. It takes the entire Virtual Machine backup. Now, I wanted to restore this virtual hard drive backup to a different node with different IP and host name.
    But before I start the database, there are some things I need to do.
    As change address IP address and the hostname registered with the database installed and its services.

    Please guide me through the steps on how to perform the activity.

    SOA admin.

    I think that the whole operating system will be restored in a new virtual machine... I have it... The changes will have to be done in the file listener.ora (hostname or IPADDRESS and also PORT NO in case you want another port as the existing one). Once you have made the changes that you have to bounce the listener, I mean stop and start the listener... I don't think that any other changes are needed... Make sure that the same need for entries (from the listener) to be included in the TNSNAMES file. ORA file both client-side... The tns service is used to connect to the remote database server (from the demand side or whatever source you used to connect to the database server)... I just think that the change to do... Hope its clear... Please try...

  • confusion with the categories and types of backups

    Hello

    I started studying the RMAN and I'm getting a little confused with the backups... ask someone to clarify the following queries:

    1. HOT times and COLD backup strategies perform BACKUPSET BACKUP and COPY of the IMAGE?

    2 about the HOT water and COLD backup, are they only associated with the FULL backup?

    3. incremental backup are also HOT or COLD backup?

    4. incremental has 2 types: Cumilative and differentiated?

    I'm a bit confused with the above...

    Help, please.

    Concerning
    KK

    Whether HOT or COLD:
    BACKUP DATABASE will create BACKUPSETs

    (this default value can be overridden if you have set up the TYPE of DEVICE...) BACKUP TYPE to... where the backup type can be changed by default for the COPY.

    Whether HOT or COLD:
    DATABASE BACKUP AS COPY will create Copies of the Image

    An incremental backup can be a HOT or a COLD backup.
