CentOS 6: / boot partition to small with Easy Install

Hello

I installed CentOS 6 64-bit in a version of VMware Workstation 7.14 - 385536 on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. If you are using Easy Install it came with a partition/boot to ~ 48MB where are only 8.3 MB of free space. Therefore, an update of the kernel fails with the error: '[...] 19 MB required. "This happends with the default size of the drive of 20 GB and when I changed it to 40 GB.

If I do not use Easy Install the partition/Boot has the size of 500 MB (size disc 20 and 40 GB), which would be more than enough. Another difference is the use of lvm (logical volume management) when I use the manual installation and the lack of it with Easy Install.

Is it possible to change the partition scheme when you use Easy Install?

Kind regards

Andreas

Easy install creates a custom Kickstart configuration file the autoinst.iso file created in the folder of in that the Virtual Machine is created and you must change the following setting in the KS. CFG file.

part /boot --size 50

Should extract the KS. The autoinst.iso file, change the setting and the injection of the edited KS, CFG folder. CFG file in file autoinst.iso before you begin the installation.  Or you are needs that this process can be script.

It has resized the partition of disk doing a great score including a remains a very small. He reloaded windows with avast antivirus and gave the laptop back to work. I wanted to use the Mcafee I had paid for, so I uninstalled avast and installed Mcafee. Everything went well and the laptop worked - however the mcafee warning sign came up saying scan in real time has been disabled - he turned back, but a few minutes it turned off again. I have contacted Mcafee used virtual tech then chatted in their eng who suspected a virus, a virus scanner from mcafee, rather than the laptop - it was very good. While the computer restarts windows laptop crashed and the WINDOWS FAILED to START SCREEN has appeared. I gave it back to my friend who reloaded windows and avast and widely used for a week. When we got it back avast had been removed and there was Windows Defender - didn't light alarm does not. We loaded on Mcafee and had plenty of updates (and hours) then tried windows live messenger telling to SP1 and SP2 are necessary. They were charged after an eternity using automatic updates of windows. After everything has been loaded on a final restart gave place WINDOWS failed to START screen and does not start in any mode. I thought it might be linked to the abduction of an antivirus and the installation of another, so I put in the original Windows restore disc in and formatted the large partition, then reloaded windows and all its drivers then went on updates auto and auto updates for 24 hours until what he said to date. Installed mcafee - no problem, then tried windows live essentials that required sp1 and SP2 - used auto updates to download SP1. When this is completed there were two messages from Mcafee saying restart the pc and the other problem Center and soln windows saying an upate problem was found to go online to find the solution, I checked windows update history and SP1 and all other updates were installed successfully, so I rebooted the laptop - at which point it crashed and WINDOWS has no PU START APPEARED to-it wont start in any mode. Suggestions as to the cause and or how to make the process of restoration in less time - much appreciated. We have a same laptop bought at the same time, running the same original software and Mcafee - never a single problem. Thank you very much

Usually, this means that Windows could not load the packages of metadata for some devices on your computer. If you do not already have it, you can run chkdsk/r (there is a space between thek and /) to verify the integrity of your hard drive. Follow the steps below:

    1. reboot your computer

    2. immediately press theF8 key until you reach the Advanced Boot Options menu

    3. Select Safe Mode with command prompt.

    4. at the command prompt, typechkdsk/r

  • Windows Easy Install in Fusion 3.1 - does not work with images of XPSP2, only XPSP3?

I am sure that that used to work before merge update itself, so I guess that's 3.1 who broke this - how can I install easy to work with images of XPSP2? My foreign XP images are a mixture of XPSP2 and XPSP3 - I managed to create the two guys before, but now, Easy Install only works with images XPSP3.

How can I get the old behaviour back?

    > Is your \FRENCH\WINXP\PRO_WITH_SP2\ ISO one of the MSDN disks with several operating systems on it? We do not support Easy Install for those, because we cannot tell which version you want to install.

The reason why I started this thread, however, is that I did with success of virtual machines of this same image with VMWare 3.0.x versions, so that the functionality has been lost by moving to 3.1.

  • NAT very easy install VM, but not in another

My host computer is a laptop to Windows 7 with a lot of memory and VT (virtualization on chip). I use most of the time wireless.

I am running CentOS 6.0 64-bit in VMware Player 3.1.4.

When I install CentOS with 'Easy Install', NAT works great - I can access the Internet. Easy installation, however, has two disadvantages: (1) it installs a minimal configuration instead of a developer workstation. (2) the system of files/Boot is a bit small; I tried to install the updates, and an update of the kernel has complained that he needed more space in / Boot.

When I get around easily to install and install CentOS myself, I can build it as a developer, workstation and make/boot any size desired, but NAT does not work! Firefox says 'server not found '.

I examined the .vmx files and changed a few things, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? BTW, my knowledge of networking is extremely limited, so please do not say things like "oh, just reconfigure a DHCP. Instructions step by step.

    Thank you!

Important entries for DHCP are missing from/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

    BOOTPROTO = 'dhcp '.
    ONBOOT = "yes".

The MTU = "1500" may not be as important in this case, but you can also add this if you want.

  • "Easy Install cannot install VMware tools"

As I began to create a virtual machine for Ubuntu 12.10, VMware Player displays a message indicating that it recognizes this OS and install it and VMware Tools with Easy Install. "Good idea," I thought to myself 'I am all in favor of easy'.

And the installation went great, until VMware Player try to install VMware Tools. This is where the process has frozen and not exceeded. Now, whenever I try to start my VM the screen says "install VMware Tools... Please wait. »

    How can I fix?

Personally speaking General and I use Easy Install, especially with the Linux Distros!   With some Easy Install distributions do not properly size the volume/boot, causing issues later during the upgrade of nuclei.  I don't like what he does with it two CD/DVD of configuration and how it leaves things when doing even if it can be cleaned manually to the top.

I recommend not to use is installed and instead select "I will install the operating system later" and then create a manual installation of the Linux operating system and then install VMware Tools then.

  • Partition too small BOOTCAMP?

    Hello world

I have a small question about Boot Camp.

Yesterday, I installed Boot Camp on a 500GB partition created with Boot Camp. I realized that on Windows, it says that my Windows disc is only 465 GB and even with the HARD of Macintosh disk that is 500 GB. On OS X (10.9.5), it shows the two 500 GB drives. I remember the time after installation of Windows, there was a slight reduction in space, but not 35 GB. Is this correct?

Thanks a lot for your time!

    ~ Mathias

OS X Terminal, please after the release of

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

This is a problem with how disk space is calculated by the software. You don't waste any space, but the calculations are different. Generally, the disks have sectors of 512 bytes. "GB" is generally calculated as (sectors * 2 / 1000 * 1000 * 1000) while "GiB" is (sectors * 2 / 1024 * 1024 * 1024).

  • Clean install of Windows 7 - partitioning and formatting with a new drive

I tried two installs with Windows 7 Ultimate edition.  The first is a straight out of the box and installed in a laptop SATA drive.  Windows 7 has created two partitions, a small partition of specific recovery and system information, and another large partition to install Windows 7 software.  It is very good.

Then I tried a new installation formattiing the reader as one big partition.  Windows 7 does not divide the disk into two partitions, only one on which the software of Windows 7 has been installed.

The question: how it installs a Windows 7 for the two partitions on a formatted drive?  Delete the existing partition and then start installation?

    Hello Askit,

When you install Windows 7, the installation program will by default create a partition of 100 MB with the Windows partition system. The system partition is created to meet a requirement of Bitlocker startup files and Windows files are found on separate partitions.

When boot you from the DVD to perform a clean installation of Windows 7, the installation program will create the 100 MB system partition in the following conditions:

    • There is not a partition system on the machine
    • The system does not have 3 existing partitions
    • There is space on the disk for the extra partition

In response to your question, Yes, the best way to get these partitions is to delete the partition and let the windows to their creation.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you

  • How to create a dual boot with Vista installed on my Satellite U400?

    Hello

I just bought a U400 - 17 H with vista installed on the HARD drive. I would like to create a dual boot with XP Pro.

I have only a drive HARD aleady with 2 partitions (1 for vista) + 1 for data.
I want to cut the partition vista in two 2 pieces to install XP Pro.
At the end I'll have 3 partitions 1 vista (65 MB), 1 xp (65 MB) and 1 data (125 MB).

Is it easily to create a new partition ok (I guess only on vista)
but is there a program dedicated to install another OS and create a dual boot.

Please help me because I like many things the other way around. I'm sure it's possible, but what are the right process to have at the end of two BONES and the choice at the start of the laptop

    Thank you
    Gerard

    Hello!

Create a new partition for Windows XP and install it. There is no problem.

After that, you need to restore the Windows Vista boot loader. You can do this with EasyBCD. Install and start the program.
Go to the tab "Add/Remove entries". You will see that there is only one option available in the bootloader of Vista at the moment. In the "Add an entry" section, replace the drive in the menu drop-down of C:\ E:\. Change Type "Windows NT / 2 k/XP / 2 k 3" and the name of "Microsoft Windows XP". Then click on 'Add an entry' and 'save '.
Then go to the "Manage Bootloader" tab make sure "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader" is selected, then click on "write the MBR.

Now you can restart the laptop and you should have a full system dual boot to work.

    Good bye

I accidentally reformat the boot partition (3.20 GB fat 32) on my envy dv6z-7200 with gparted under linux. My computer will not now boot windows 8. Is it possible to recover the operating system?

You burn your set of recovery disks? If so start from the first person to reinstall. If you burn a set you can order one from your page of software and drivers:

  • How to install Windows XP on a Windows Vista using Vista workstation to install XP in a separate mode dual-boot partition.

If you have a Windows XP workstation it is a piece of cake to install Windows Vista on the same workstation using the dual-boot using a separate on the same hard disk partition...  However, the main centre recently received a large number of donations new jobs Lenovo ThinkCentre with factory installed and perfectly running Vista operating systems.  Question: Is there a procedure that would allow using Vista to install Windows XP on these workstations dual-boot mode?  Workstations must be used in a class of main center where we need to teach using either XP or Vista depending on student needs.   A second hard drive would allow such a facility.  But we would like to use a 2nd partition on the existing hard disk of Vista to install XP.  However, Microsoft has always included features in its Windows operating systems that overcome by using the current operating system to install an older version of the OS.  There must be a work around there somewhere.  Thanks for your help.

If you have any available records of vista, you could make a partition in disk management (right click computer, manage, enable the UAC and then go into disk management.)  Shrink the partition and format it with NTFS free space.)  Then boot from the XP disc and install it.  Once you have completed the installation of xp. Start the vista disc and go to the repair options.  Go to a command prompt and type "bootrec.exe /fixboot" (without the quotes) and press ENTER.  After restart, you should see a start with windows vista and xp listed menu.  If xp is not in the list, let me know and I can tell you how to add it.

  • How do I set up a dual boot Vista and XP with 2 hard drives?

Dual boot Vista and XP with 2 hard drives

I tried to get my computer has a separate hard drive put in place that lets me run Windows XP or Windows Vista. I tried the path of the CMD, but I could do things wrong with that because the news NTLDR appeared much too different info from Vista. Currently, I have deleted this change to the startup configuration. I want to know what I have to do to get these two to be able to boot. I noticed problems similar to mine, but the answer always seems to be a software that would cost me money.

    Thank you

    Tevans95

    Hello Tevans95,

You cannot install two different operating systems on two different disks. For a dual-boot environment, you must install both XP and Vista on the same drive with different partitions.

In addition, you must install Windows XP first and then Windows Vista.

You can check the items below which will give you information on Dual boot.

    Install multiple operating systems (multiboot)

    Set up a dual-boot system

Change the default operating system for startup (multiboot)

There is no software that can help you to install XP and Vista on different drives.

    Thank you

  • I accidentally put my system as boot partition and my windows partition not marked as boot! Windows will not start! ):

    Hello

The other day, I have been stupid, play with my windows partitions, I tried to dual-boot android 4.0 with windows, of course, as a study (this version of android has been mainly Linux).
