Change a setting, now paragraph Styles no character longer apply long Formats

Hi all

I use InDesign CS4 ver 6.0 on Mac OS 10.5.8.

My document has loaded in her paragraph Styles. When I click on the text in my document, the corresponding paragraph Styles are highlighted in the paragraph Styles window. But the text is not formatted with character formatting that is associated with the paragraph Style.

I took a glance at my character Styles window, and I see that, regardless of the selected paragraph Style, the text on the page is locked in a single character Style, substituting the selected paragraph Style.

I've must have changed a parameter but do not know which. Someone has any advice on how to get to InDesign to apply the formatting of characters specified in paragraph Styles.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Given that the others don't tell you how to remove the default character style setting, I'll do it. With no active text cursor, will the character styles, and choose [none]. Do theat in a doc open to fix this doc. Do it with no docs open to fix all of the new files.

    Y at - it an option to change a font that is used in many styles of paragraph to a few other fonts.

    Thanks in advance,

    Try this:

    var myDoc=app.activeDocument;
    var pstyles = myDoc.allParagraphStyles;
    for (var a=1; a

    explanations:

    allParagraphsStyles Gets an array of all paragraph styles in the doc, whatever the group that might be in. myDoc.paragraphStyles.everyItem () Gets a collection of all the styles of paragraphs outside groups.

    not run the table for 1 paragraph styles, 0, because the first is 'no style paragraph' and it is read-only. trying to change it will cause an error.

    using a regular expression to match the name of the police because appliedFont.name returns a string like this: font_style font_name {tab} for example: 'Minion Pro\tSemibold subtitle.

  • Changing the names of paragraph style

    I asked this question a month ago, but I did ' t really ask him just.

    I get InDesign to InDesign6 documents. In the process, we change the style names to make things future compabile makes all the spaces. periods, dashes, etc.

    Thus, for example, title 1 becomes Heading_1 in Page No. -left becomes PageNo_Left, etc. Easy, just do one or two documents by hand, but I literally desgines of the documents that are going to need it.

    So, I'm looking to write a script to automate this process, more or less. I think I need something like:

    App.documents [0].paragraphStyle.Item ("Heading 1"). Name = "Heading_1".

    App.documents [0].paragraphStyle.Item (page no. - Left). Name = "PageNo_Left".

    etc.

    Am I headed in the right direction? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Figured it out. Script is:

    app.activeDocument.paragraphStyles.item("Heading_1").name = "Heading_1".

    app.activeDocument.paragraphStyles.item("Page_No.-Left").name = "PageNo_Left".

  • Change the paragraphs found in the standard paragraph style?

    I have look here for about an hour and could not find a discussion for this.  I see where it clears the substitutions but not change Style all together.  Here's what I need help do.  If I left saying text 4 selected boxes, I want the power to change the standard paragraph to paragraph and character set to None style style. If there is already can a discussion that I missed in this regard you point me in that direction.  If this is not the case, can I please help with this.

    You can usetpk1982of script to change all the paragraphs of the standard paragraph. But if you only want the block of selected text, then you will need to adjust thescript to change paragraph styles in the selected text frames.

    basically replace line 2 by var allTFrames = app.selection;
    Also, if you need to clear character styles need to do before you change the paragraph style or character styles will be removed and the formatting will be left as a local override.  Your final script after that these changes would be:

    myDoc var = app.activeDocument;

    var myTFrames = app.selection;

    for (var i = 0; i)< mytframes.length;="" i++)="">

    var tFrame = myTFrames [i];

    pStory var = tFrame.parentStory;

    var allParas = pStory.paragraphs.everyItem ();

    pStory.characters.everyItem () .appliedCharacterStyle = app.activeDocument.characterStyles [0];

    allParas.appliedParagraphStyle = app.activeDocument.paragraphStyles [1];

    }

    Note: instead of simply replacing the 2 wire I also changed the name of the variable to reflect rather than leave it in the form allTFrames; and add line 7... Other than these two changes everything was the script of tpk1982

  • Chip color character/paragraph style

    Hello

    When I double-click a paragraph style or character and try and change the color chip, it does not bring up the color picker. I have a list of predetermined process colors, but I can't make my own. That's probably the problem?

    Thank you

    Antony

    Change the color of your screen type using the swatches or color

    Click once on the name of the style (you will notice a sign more)

    and the more went showing your selection matches and confirming that the style has been redefined

    All instances using this style now displays the new color.

  • Why paragraph styles did change his mind during a project?

    Using CS6 (CC), I am to convert a booklet our firm designed for Kindle. Since we would cut apart all of the text, and it has been published several times in the original, I'm cut and paste into a new document, implementation of brilliant new paragraph styles and essentially creating a clean export document.

    However, some weird things happened along the way, the following:

    1. a created paragraph style is "intro text". Based on 'no paragraph style', the black value Adobe Garamond, etc, etc. It works perfectly in all of the document except the first page. When I apply the same paragraph of its text style, the text shows quite differently (bright red, Meta). No substitution showing. Can I just retype the text and try setting up from scratch, but no idea why the same paragraph style that works on all other pages does not work here? (Screenshot showing the selected type and style that works everywhere else below.)

    2. the book is indexed by section color, so the first section has all red heads/subtitles, next heads yellow/subtitles, etc. I created the yellow subtitle based on red, the color change in the "color" box in paragraph styles. Several pages in the second section, the style of Pará yellow subtitle abruptly changed his mind and refuses to do the subtitle yellow unless I have replace manually in the text box. Even if the yellow is shown in the color of the box (see example below), and although it worked perfectly for several pages, this style now refuses to act according to its parameters. However, this works perfectly if I apply it to another type of text where I don't want it to work (see example below). If the same paragraph style works differently when applied to a different text on the same page. (aaaarrrrrgh)

    Everyone knows about this problem or questions, and what did you do to solve / them?

    Thank you!

    Some of what you describe could be caused by the application of styles to characters in addition to the paragraph styles, but it also looks like there may be a few file coruption. See remove minor corruption by exporting and see if that helps.

  • The font color do not apply on a paragraph style

    Hello

    I try to change color on a paragraph style, and it won't change. I try another color, another paper, same thing. So, it's a software problem. Not a file. I delete InDesign and re-install. I fix the permission with disk utility and Cocktail. I restart the computer. I have reset PRAM.  I run the last ID CC 2014 on Yosemite. No problem since the update. Do you have a solution for me? Thank you in advance.

    If you select the entire title is an applied character style? The character style must be set to [none]. What you are showing can also occur via a style nested inside the paragraph style.

  • How clear the text paragraph styles imported from the word?

    I am trying to create a user manual and I use a model that has its own set up paragraph styles.

    I use InDesign CS6 because I use the PDF2ID of Markzware plugin that I bought for this version. I used it to bring in the instructions of the users who have made their work in Word and saved in PDF format.

    I just want to take their work and re - format to match the styles of paragraphs in the model. But when I select the text and choose a new paragraph style, it does not change.

    I tried to use the button 'Clear the replacements' but nothing happens.

    I found a site that offers to use keyboard shortcuts to clear the formatting, but they no longer work.

    What Miss me?

    PDF don't know anything about styles. The plugin could have done a few "intelligently" all styles, based on the formatting, but I don't know if he is capable of that because I've never used.

    Hold Shift + Alt\Opt click a paragraph style should apply this style and remove character styles as well as local formatting overrides.

  • Text does not accept paragraph styles

    I changed the paragraph styles in a document that I did not create. Sometimes after I change the style, the text will not change. In the paragraph style palette, it seems that the text has received the style and does not show a sign indicating a replacement option.

    I tried to create a new barn and set the text of this new style. The text will not just change. What could be going on here?

    Thank you!

    Check the nested styles.

    You can quickly verify this by placing the text cursor in the text and checking the character styles. There should be "carriage return" symbol and a character at the base of the Panel style showing you what the template is applied.

  • Is it possible to automatically check the paragraph Styles?

    Changes to a paragraph style are indexed with a star. That shows you where the styles are not applied correctly - as long the cursor is in this line or paragraph.

    But is there a way to index changes automatically? As you can for example check and index wrong spelling by the correction tools or the low resolution of preflight...?

    To show all the "bad points" without clicking on each paragraph.

    You can create a custom preflight profile to check text replacements: InDesign help | Preflight files before transfer. The property that you want to check is 'Text', then 'Paragraph Style and character Style overrides'. Be sure to turn off all other controls, because they slow down the whole process.

    To check if all paragraphs will have a style assigned, search for [no paragraph Style]: InDesign help | Find/replace, scroll down to find and edit the text in the shape.

  • Paragraph styles question: is it me?

    Whenever I create or even try to apply a paragraph style in the ID, despite the size of the font, I indicated in the style, and whatever style I choose, my fonts appear on the page as 24 points. I tried to delete styles and start again, but no luck. It's stopping me from using paragraph styles and forces me to use manual formatting everything until I get this fixed. Could sure use some help!

    Check your character Styles palette. There must be a character active 24pt style. (By design) character styles replace paragraph styles. Character change none style, and that should fix.

  • 2 fonts, 1 paragraph Style?

    Hi all

    I received a file from Indesign with already defined paragraph and character Styles. I'm trying to change all the fonts in document by updating the text styles.

    My problem is with some existing text. The text appears in 2 different fonts, but has only 1 paragraph Style is assigned. There is also no Style assigned characters.

    When I change the font of paragraph style it effects among the displayed fonts, but not the other.

    My question is; How is that possible!

    Thank you very much!

  • Make Illustrator CC paragraph styles

    CC, Mac OS 10.8.4 Illustrator: When pasting of text formatted with a paragraph Style, the style decreases and the text converts to myriad. I copy and paste from/to the same file - even in the same text box.

    Hi Jill,

    I had the same issue this morning and spent a good half hour + try from figre. Try first the character Style formatting, and then create a paragraph style with the same name, and then set the paragraph style. That work around was to work and to hold for me.

    Don't know why CC Illustrator works like that but InDesign is much easier and more consistent when you set the paragraph Style.

    Hope that helps!

  • Application of paragraph to a single paragraph style affects all paragraphs

    Hey,.

    I am trying to create a script that would take a picture of text objects that describe the text and style of a particular line of text. And in a few lines to apply character Styles as well.

    The problem is that, although the script works when the loop is in the character styles 'mode', it seems to apply paragraph styles for all the last lines of the text when the aforementioned object asks him to only apply the paragraph style (no character styles).

    The offending line is the following:

    if ( typeof line.text == 'string' ) {
        frame.contents += "\r" + line.text;
        frame.parentStory.paragraphs[-1].appliedCharacterStyle = doc.characterStyles[0];
        frame.parentStory.paragraphs[-1].applyParagraphStyle(style);
        continue;
    }

    I even copied the lines of style-lap of the application section of the script ( the other part) character Styles, but it still applies the style to all the last lines of the text. The script below is the full code I have I want with one of the objects of text data. If I comment the lines of 'offending' mentioned above, the script applyes all models correctly. Otherwise, only the last line (Product - Description style) is applied, while all the previous lines reach the style "Spacer".

    Can you see what I'm doing wrong? (Sorry for the giant piece of code, but I can't pin-point this is not relevant here).

                    else {
                        line_styles.push({
                            'start': line_text.length,
                            'end': line_text.length + bit.text.length,
                            'style': bit.style
                        });
                        line_text += bit.text;
                    }
                }

                frame.contents += "\r" + line_text;
                frame.parentStory.paragraphs[-1].appliedCharacterStyle = doc.characterStyles[0];
                frame.parentStory.paragraphs[-1].applyParagraphStyle(style);

                    char_style = doc.characterStyles.item(line_styles[j].style);
                    frame.parentStory.paragraphs[-1].characters.itemByRange(
                        line_styles[j].start,
                        line_styles[j].end
                    ).applyCharacterStyle(char_style, true);
                }
            }
        }
    }

    It was strange. Can't really see what's going wrong here. But it seems to be resolved by changing this line:

    text_frame.contents += "\r" + product.text[i].text;

    to do this:

    text_frame.parentStory.insertionPoints[-1].contents = "\r" + product.text[i].text;

    This has the additional advantage of targeting of history and therefore do not break if the textframe overflows.

  • Problems with paragraph styles in CS4?

    Let me start by saying that I recently switched from Quark, so I'm really a newbie in InDesign. I was watching videos as much as possible, but can't seem to find the answers to questions like that.

    I've been taking the old brochures that have been created in ID3 and sticky type and pictures in a new format that has been created in ID4. The new format has already created with the update fonts and other formatting paragraph styles as well.

    When I circulate in all the new type and click the style sheet, it does not change the correct font type and size, but there is in the paragraph of formats that are not updated. For example: the whole paragraph (according to the applied style) should be the book of Gotham, but even after you apply the style to it, part of it remains "BOLD" Gotham. He has been "BOLD" in the previous version of the document, but must be regular in this one.

    Why, when I apply the style, it does not the whole paragraph?

    I can think of a few possibilities, but the I would like to write specific instructions vary from one case to another. The find/replace menu is invaluable here. I could find everything he scored with a given character style and replace [none], replace by other layout specified shape or replace with a different character style that I could then remove. Note that when you delete a character style, you can choose to replace it with a different style of character or to preserve formatting after the character style has disappeared.
