Change default installation folder

I installed Windows 7 on my SSD, but I don't want my software must be installed on the SSD. I'm trying to change the installation path by default for 32-bit and 64-bit software. I followed a guide where I change my registry value ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesDir (x 86) to the \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE|Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion . My question is on the amendment of other values such as CommonFilesDir, CommonW6432Dir, ProgramW6432Dir?

The registry hack option is not supported by MS and can cause other problems.

If any program you are wanting to install has the option to install in a directory of your choice, use it.

Even if you select another drive of files will be written to the drive to victory

Some programs cannot be custom installed and it will install on victory drive.

Basically if you use an ssd that is less than 128 GB its probably too small

Libraries can be found on another drive

  • Cannot change the default installation directory (missing ProgramFilesDir)

I'm changing the default installation on my computer directory.  I looked at the number of threads here that cover the topic.  I go to regedit and follow this path: 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion' but I can't find the value 'ProgramFilesDir.' "  It's on Windows 7, 64-bit.

Your much more course using the option 'tailor-made' for each program you want to install. Most of the applications have this option. Change the system variable or the registry entry can cause other issues, you may not like.

  • My default download folder is on my server at work, so when I'm at home the download window does not open and I can't change my settings to download.

I tried to reset my default download folder, but it just goes back in the download folder on my server to work that I won't be able to connect to the next month. When I try to select a different download folder, does not have the button "Browse". I also tried to select the option to ask me where to save every time, but nothing appears when I try to record something.

You can also double-click the preferences that I mentioned in connection: config and manually add a custom - path C:\ for example will be the root folder of your hard disk the new default download location.

  • How to change the default installation for MS Reader in Windows 10

So I have all my settings for applications (on windows) changed to where I want Acrobat Reader DC, but the installer always puts on my C drive (with no option to change the installation location). I would like to have it on my D drive. I don't see a framework to achieve this. Am I missing something or do I have to learn to deal with it on my C drive? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to change the installation of K: drive C:?

When I load software on my computer he always asks the K: drive. Could you please inform me where I can go in to C:.  My K: is my external hard drive.  Thank you Dee

Here is the procedure to change the default path for the installation of software on Vista:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/03/23/how-to-change-default-windows-installation-path-to-your-desired-path/.  In this case, you would choose a location on the C: drive (maybe C:\Program Files if it is still there - or create this folder if it is not).  Make a new folder in the directory root - don't bury it in another folder or even deeper.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • How to change the download folder?

I use firefox for android and I couldn't change the (default) download folder.
It should be added in order to change this setting, I think.

    THX

Unfortunately, this solution does not work. First of all, there is no browser.download.lastDir on Fx Android, and even if build you it, it seems that it is ignored.

The right solution is described here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/978679

  • Custom installation folder (LV 2009)

I was instructed to build an installer from a customer for a base of existing code written in LV2009 (windows XP, Vista, 7).

The code is not well written and a LOT of hard-coded paths.  I'm not paid to recode, and I would like to avoid that if possible.

EXE must be located in c:\projects\FOLDER.  However, I can't get the installer to place anywhere but the standard Windows folders (office, Program files, etc.).

I didn't have to do an installer this before (I always locate my exe in the PF record).

Am I missing something?  I could have sworn that I've done this before.  I can find no Ko or forums about this, which seems strange (well that NEITHER research and find relevant results has been doing worse and worse)

    Hi Jed,

Here is a link with some useful measures on how to define a custom installation folder.  Make sure that you make your default location as well by clicking on the folder with the Red check mark on it after you add the file in the directory.  I hope this helps!

  • HP Officejet 4630: change default location of scanning 4630

I would like to change the destination of my scanned documents to the default "Documents" folder.

I use OS 10.8 but it should be the same. I found the answer on my own as he tried to find it online. If you have not thought about it, then the following should work:

    1. go to the app (in the folder applications-> Hewlett-Packard) HP utility

    2. Select your printer, where it should give you a list of all possible parameters

    3. from here, click on setting Scan (Scan of"the computer")

    4. go to the tab "Scan tasks" and choose JPEG or PDF (same process for both)

    5. the second box down on the page should give you the option to choose the destination of the scanned documents.

    I hope this helps!

  • Cannot change default programs as an administrator

I opened the JPEG files for the past 6 months with a program called FSViewer, but yesterday when I did it, the file is opened with a Windows program that is basically useless. I tried to reset the default value, but the program, FSviewer will not appear in the list once I selected it, I tried also in Control Panel by using the Folder Options. Does not allow me to change it. If I log in as a guest or with another account, no problem, I can change the default program, but it only works in other accounts and not as my main account, which is also administrator of the computer. I also tried to change another account limited to the administrator of the computer, and it allows me to change the default settings of the program without problem. If I change my main account to limited, it still does not change the default program. I guess I could remove the primary account/computer Manager, and start again, but I'd rather not. I am able to download and install programs, but not able to change the default programs.

How can I get my main account to change default programs?

  • How can I change the destination folder to Windows Picture import in the Vista autoplay version. ?

The destination folder somehow Autoplay went under the windows default 'Photos' parameter in a subfolder in 'Photos' when you use the option 'Import using Windows' Auotplay. Default AutoPlay program area does not choice for import folders, only actions to choose from. How can I change the default import folder back to 'Pictures' Autoplay when importing photos using Windows Vista import?

If your Options to AutoPlay in Control Panel, Autoplay, devices, (your camera that there are listed) are defined to import pictures using Windows on the menu drop-down, then when you plug your camera you will get a low popup to the right of your screen.

Click on Options, you will get an another popup that you can change the destination folder.

  • No option to change the installation location of the program

    Hello

I have problems with my laptop running Vista Basic.

Whenever I try to install a new program, it automatically starts the installation on drive C.  There is no opportunity to change the installation location.  It must now to the point where drive C is almost full yet D drive is almost empty.

Is it possible I can get Vista to start giving me the option to choose where I would like the installation to occur or may simply change the default location?  I don't have a problem with the deletion of all programs that are running on my laptop that I have all the disks necessary to reinstall, I just can't continue as things are.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Andy

If you get a choice of the place where the software is the responsibility of the installer, no windows.  I would say it's time to start looking in an upgrade of the hard drive if you are running this short space.

  • The printer icon changes to a folder

I installed the latest drivers/software Windows 8 HP for my 110 want on my new laptop Acer printer and the icon of the printer in the Control Panel/devices and printers into a folder on my first reboot.  Everything works fine with the printer wish just the icon looked like a printer.  I deleted and reinstalled the software after deleting all temporary files, etc., and it still does the same thing.  Any ideas on how to fix it?

    Hello

First try following the below document and see if it can help you, the same should apply for Windows 8:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01996838

In addition, you try to open Control Panel and search for "device".

Under devices and printers, select "change device installation settings.

Yes, select "do this automatically" and save the changes.

Wait several minutes and check for the difference.

If it persists, you can manually replace the icon by clicking on the Windows key + R simultanly, if displays the dialog box run.

    Type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Device Stage\Device

Search in the subfolders of the folder like 110 (inside files must contain the printer model).

Paste the attachment icon below in this file to manually replace its icon.

    Hope that helps,

  • By default and the default installation path

Should I use best practices in default installation of MS Office and other programs path because my company uses the directory default for MS Office installation and other programs? The default path points or C:\Program Files (x 86) C:\Program but my company created a new folder directory outside the Program Files directories for several executable programs. Let me know that my company should follow best practices to avoid the mess of the operating system?

Typically, you leave the default installation path is.

Show you the paths are for 64 bit & 32 bit programs, more often that it is senseless to do otherwise.

And if you talk to a separate partition/drive programs usually function properly, or not at all, if installed on other than the partition Win
