change the simple url search engine

Until I downloaded Weather channel destop, when I type any general term in the URL automatically, he went to google search. Now, when I type a general term in the URL box, he goes to ASK.com I have google in my search engine in the search box at right, but I want to make my search "go to" when I type in what either in the URL. Is any way I can change it to GOOGLE vs Ask.com?

Thank you
Mandy

  • Cannot change the default to search engine address bar

Whenever I have try to search using the address bar firefox search in youtube. I tried to go to about: config to reset keyword.url but keyword.url is not yet listed in the list of config. I tried manually in a keyword.url preference but that does not change.

Change for Firefox 23, the keyword feature. Pref URL has been removed. The search box now controls the search engine that is used in the address bar.

    This restores this preference.

  • I can't change the same Bing search bar after the removal of Bing!

I would like to change the default Google search engine. I put Google on the top of the search engine list, but every time I close FireFox and reopen Bing is located in the search bar! I even deleted Bing in the list of search engine to manage, and even after closing and re-opening FireFox sits is Bing. Very frustrating! I love the browser but I'll change if I can't get this straightened out. I completed all the steps to make Google default, but somehow Bing is always in the search bar when you restart FireFox.
    Help, please

Make a check of malware with several malware scanning of programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs, because each program detects a different malicious program.
All of these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before scanning.

Alternatively, you can write a check for an infection rootkit TDSSKiller.

It could be the work of one of your modules, or even add / bad-ware.
Look through your list of modules and make sure you know what each of them is
    and so. In addition,
check the programs that are on your computer
Windows > start > Control Panel > uninstall programs.
Go through the list and a web search to check that you have not
    know what they are.

  • How can I remove the selection of search engines to the search bar as you type?

Since the last update when I type in the search field, all the possible search engines are visible, and it's very confusing use now. It is also a double feature as I see that the selection of search engine is still available next to the search icon.

Is there a way to disable the display of all the search engines available in the results 'search as you type "?

    Running Ubuntu.

Please, do not react with an antibot question or answer, the only goal, is that I see if it's possible or not until you switch to another browser. Seems more recent updates to firefox are based mainly on the subjective views of individuals rather than on the wishes of the user. Such a shame for that one good browser.

Best regards and thanks in advance.

You can find research tab to change search engines in Options/preferences between the tabs and content in the current version.

If you want to restore the window previously used independently to manage search engines, you can enable or disable this pref to false with a middle-click on the topic: config page.

    • topic: config page: browser.search.showOneOffButtons = false

You will need to close and restart Firefox to make it work properly.

You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • I run Firefox on Mac OX 10.4.11 3.6.19. The component of search engine has now expanded to env.10 inches and adresse_web is now only about 1 inch and full URLS in a drop-down list. I want to restore the previous configuration

You can place the mouse pointer between the address bar and the search bar, and it will become an icon of resizing that you can drag to the right or to the left with the left button of the mouse to change the relative width two bars.

  • In the dialog "Manage the list of search engine", the "Restore Defautls" button is grayed out!

    Hello

    I use Firefox 6.0.1 on Windows 7.

I installed software player Free Desktop Clock 2.37 and then Firefox was hi-jacked, so I chose carefully the custom displays.

Edit: Free Desktop Clock itself does not hi-jack Firefox. This is another program (forget the name) comes with Free Desktop Clock that made him, adding a toolbar, change the home page, change the default search engine, etc. In fact, these forced alterations can be changed easily, return as a reset of the "keyword.url" pref For example, "hi-jack" can be a description which is too strong.

In any case, I managed to clean - toolbar requested, forced homepage, forced the default search engine, etc.

But there is still a problem.

In the dialog, to manage the search engine, listthat appears when you click the arrow to the left of the search bar and then click on manage search engines, the default button is disabled (grayed out).

How can we reactivated this button?

    Thank you.

Finally, I realize that the 'Restore Defaults' button is enabled only when the default search engine is removed. The purpose of this button is to add all the missing default search providers. She, as I misunderstood, does not serve to remove search providers added by the user.

So, I was wrong to blame Free Desktop Clock, no matter how bad it is.

  • How to stop the diversion of search engine

Right to the point: how to prevent sites like yahoo to misappropriation of your research?

Now, before the flames begin to-I checked several sites and non of show them how to STOP yahoo (and others) of hijacking, only how to FIX. It is easy fixing. These are two completely different questions. Stop, it's what interests me.

That said, lets ask it differently this time, why mozilla is allowing other sites in an arbitrary manner, a whim, authorize a Web site changes to the someones browser? If someone sets their browser to a specific search engine, mozilla shall not permit to be changed by one source, other than the owner (the user in this case), at BEST maybe a fox herself warning system requesting a change.

This would raise the question, how many other problems of security work in the background that are not intrusive (recorders, data mining etc..) which are 'allowed' to manipulate the Fox without knowing them users? How can I install / activate some features of alert that maybe says:

"Your current search engine [search engine] was changed, are you sure? Now, users are less likely to lose their search engine without warning.

Web sites cannot change your default search engine in Firefox without having to install a local file, is a program that changes your settings or an add-on. If you've seen any site show how to hack the default search engine setting while visiting a web page, please report the URL to Mozilla for urgent investigation.

Downloading a program and especially an add-on install prompts the user to allow/disallow installation, although the site may not be honest about the purpose and effect of the program, and Firefox is unable to break down a program in real time and tell you in advance what he does.

The most frequent cases seen on this forum is where a user has downloaded free software as "watch live sports anywhere" or "video" and it comes with a range of invasive software that either has not been disclosed or you just didn't notice in the 10 pages of small print, you have accepted. In fact, the installer may have been downloaded with any browser and affect all your browsers.

In regards to the programs that you are allowing your system how can Firefox, Firefox assumes that you accepted and allows them to run if they meet the current validation requirements and have not been reported for blocking. There is not a ban on Add-ons that affect research. If you think that there should be, you could raise this suggestion on the forum of modules here:

  • Why Yahoo is now the default Firefox search engine?

I'm curious to know why Mozilla decided to move the engine of Firefox default to Yahoo search, without initially to provide an explanation to users. Specifically, how does this change benefits users? »

Hello ariel, please fill in this question. the reasons to change the default search provider in firefox are explained in https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/11/19/promoting-choice-and-innovation-on-the-web/

of course, users are free as always to set their search engine preferred as default choice: use the Firefox search bar
