Changing the settings of Cluster SWAP without the virtual machine downtime

Hi all

My question refers to the vSphere 5.0 version.

I need to change the settings of my VMware Cluster swap file.

It is set to "store the swap file in the data specified by the host store.

I want to change it to "store the file in the same directory as the virtual machine.

Can I do this without the VM downtime?

Kind regards

Martin

You can change the setting in the cluster without affecting your running virtual machines, but virtual machines will not use this new setting until they have been rolled power.

    Hello

How can I change the name of a Virtual Machine - I want to say the name that appears in VMPlayer (or VMWare Fusion) as it has recently used Virtual Machines. I tried to change the name of the vmx file but this does not affect the name of the virtual machine displayed in VMPlayer.

    Thank you very much.

VMware Fusion 3.x and 2.x but not 1.x, you can click on and change the name of the virtual machine in the Virtual Machine library on the right side, just under the display area.

For VMware Player you need to edit the "displayName ="parameter in the configuration file .vmx and of VMware Player virtual machine must be closed when you perform this operation."

I'm looking in the configuration of SNMP on our ESX for Solarwinds alert guests, and is the last step I have to restart the service mgmt-vmware.

  • How to change the virtual machine after clone

I'm a beginner to learn vm.

Now, I already cloned a new existing virtual machine in a virtual machine.

Then, I want to change it.

    (1) change the name

    (2) change the number of the processor

    (3) change the size of the memory

    (4) change the size of the disk

    How to do?

I use c# API. I put something when clone?

    Thanks for any help!

    Hello

You can clone the virtual computer to a model first and then deploy it to this model. For customizing the properties of guest operating system, you can use sysprep (from Microsoft) or customization Spesification Manager (from VMware vCenter Server). Of course, you can also configure it manually change settings menu (from vSphere Client).

  • Change the amount of vCPU in vCD deletes the virtual machine network connection in vCenter

It is a problem of crazy that we discovered, and I wanted to know if anyone had seen him.

First of all, we miss the following software versions:

    vCD: 5.1.1.867405

    vCenter: 5.0.0 Build 913577

    ESXi: 5.0.0 build 1024429

If you go to vCloud Director and change the material properties of an existing virtual machine (Powered off) any change in the amount of vCPU (to something new), inside of vCenter status of the network will change to the port group Standard (inactive) none.

Even if, before making the change, the virtual machine is connected to a distributed port group, and works well.

We now display an SR to VMware, but sometimes it is worth running this by the community to see if other people have already seen or indeed want to test on their deployment.

    Thanks in advance

We have solved the problem now.

The reason why that we faced this problem is because we used the wrong order in the API.

You must ensure that you use the undeploy command when you work with the vCD API otherwise you end up with a disconnected network card.

  • How to change the name of VirtualSwitch without running virtual MAchines of braking?

Does anyone know how to change the name of the virtual switch (used by VM) without braking the VM running in this cluster?

The best way to do this without losing network connectivity is add a group of ports with the new name and connect the virtual machines to the new group of port and when the initial group of port is empty remove - remember that it's the port group named not the vswitch.

  • You cannot use vSphere client to change the settings of the virtual machine v10 or more

    Hello

I just downloaded new version of Kali Linux to do some tests with my free version of ESXi update 5.5 2, the problem is that I can't change the settings of the virtual machine in vSphere Client.

It's so good because of the independence of Web OS Client vSphere but what about the free version? Everyone knows you need a vCenter running successfully and a license for the vSphere Web Client.

There is no free version of VMWare vCenter.

    Nice day.

  • Do we not have to change the settings for the virtual machine once moved from 2.5 ESX to vSphere 4.1?

    Hi guys,.

I just wanted to check, once the virtual machines are migrated from ESX 2.5, 2.5 Vcenter to ESX 4.1, Vcenter 4.1 of the NFS datastore on the iSCSI data store.

Do I have to make changes to the vm settings?

To use the features to enhance available with ESX 4.1 what I need to change the virtual disk to logical Bus to LSI logic? What is recommended or is not serious?

It will be very useful for me to know if there is any need for changes to be made other than on the virtual machine upgrade vmware tools.

    Thank you

You try to run ESX 2.5 VM on ESX4.1, if that's the case then ESX 2.5 VM are not supported on ESX 4.1

  • change the settings of the virtual machine through configuration files?

    Hello

Is it possible to change the settings of a virtual computer by directly modifying the configuration on the esxi host files?

And no one knows where these files are stored? Searched for them, but could not find at all (yet)

Say use winscp to change the config file that reflects the virtual machine?

    Thank you

Delete the original virtual machine. Right click on the VM 'delete inventory '. Open the data store and locate the vmx file. Right click and "add to the inventory.

  • Web client to modify the virtual machine settings

We have several VMware environments that I help manage. So that we can train the junior members on the use of VMware, we have a few stand-alone hosts running v5.5u1.

One of my colleagues copied a VM built with 10 Workstation to this host and received an error message on the VMDK becoming invalid. They tried to solve the problem by getting the host to upgrade the virtual machine. The virtual machine appears now as being "Version VM: vmx-10.

The network for this virtual computer is set on connects don't not to put under tension, so we have no network on this virtual machine. If we right-click the virtual machine in vSphere Client and choose change settings, we receive this message:

"You cannot use vSphere Client to change the settings of the virtual version 10 or higher machines.

Use the vSphere Client Web to change the settings for this virtual machine".

I know that the Web Client for stand-alone hosts was not available on 5.1 and I guess that's the same thing with 5.5. Is this correct? My attempts to try to load a page like this fails.

Y at - there a command I can use 'downgrade' the version of virtual machine to any where I can change the settings with vSphere Client?

It's not much you can do that and then get stuck without being able to change the settings for the virtual machine. Surely, they could detect if the host is connected to a vCenter and only enable this option if it is... or warn before you perform the upgrade!

    Thank you

    Neil

You can simply edit the vmx file and edit vmx - 10-vmx - 9.

  • Settings of CPU and memory of reserve on the virtual machine running...

    Hello.

I have two virtual machines in production with CPU and memory settings of reservation applied as shown below. I want to adjust these settings of reservation to "zero" for the CPU and memory on both virtual machines.

I can make these adjustments while VMS are running, or do I need to power their first?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the community,

Booking of resources being completely transparent for the customer, i.e. a host function, there is no need to turn off the virtual machines. Basically all settings in are available to be changed in the editable GUI generally without interruption of service comments.

  • Virtual Center stops all the virtual machines in a cluster HA

    Hello.

I have a question about vCenter machine. We have deployed

VMware ESX 4.0 HA cluster on Server Blade IBM 3. VCenter machine resides

on a virtual machine on the same cluster. When we tried to recharge a physical switch (in the)

IBM Blade Center), all our virtual machines on the cluster have been turned off automatically.

If the vCenter VM is turned off, then everything is fine - the reloading of the

Switch is not turning off the virtual machines (and the net is ok - start machines

work through another switch in IBM bladecenter). If the machine vCenter

powers (manually), all the other machines, which have been put off, are powered

on too (automatically, of course, with the help of the machine of vCenter). How

is that what I can adjust the machine vCenter, so it could not power power machines by

    itself automatically?

    ESX 4.0 (162856)

    Hello

Right-click in your cluster, change the settings. Select 'Virtual Machine Options' under 'Vmware HA' and choose the host response of insulation desired for the entire cluster or individual VM. If you do not have network connections redundant between your ESX machines, you probably want the virtual machine for when you need to do maintenance or your network switch died. You should probably also disable HA while doing maintenance. You should consider to build network redundancy in the case of a production environment.

    I hope that helps!

    Hello

The Windows XP operating system use a space on the hard drive as virtual memory. This means that a file is a space on the hard disk that Windows uses as if it were RAM.
The file size is variable and you can change the size of file in the performance Options.

Please go to control panel - system - Advanced tab. You will find the Performance parameters.
In the performance Options, you will find 3 tabs (Visual effects, advanced, Data Execution Prevention). On the Advanced tab, you can find the option to change the virtual memory.
