Check the State of the virtual machine remotely

Hi all

I want to check the status of my virtual machines remotely (start, stop, reset, suspend, resume). Is there a simple way to do this?

In fact, I am using the remote built into VMware workstation's screen but if I stop the virtual machine, I am not able to restart and go on the host computer. Is there a solution for workstation as the Web management or something else?

Thanks for help

See vmrun.exe in the VIX\ \Program Files\VMware\VMware directory.

You can script a whole bunch of things quite easily.

    Hi all

    The VM on Vcenter everything is perfect with the network connection. I can't do a ping of the virtual machine remotely but I can not connect via telnet.

    For the same reason? And even more, I have disabled the fiewalls of the virtual machine (Windows 2008 R2).

    Can you please let me know how to solve this problem?

    Since there is nothing blocking the traffic of the virtual machine in ESXi, you can begin troubleshooting in the guest OS. For example is running telnet server and configured to accept connections?

  • State of the virtual machine after the host failure

    Hello

    If a virtual machine is running on a host and that host suddenly powers off dirty, like a power failure or a remote access card power the server due to a fault, overtemp etc., what happens to the virtual machine?

    My guess is the virtual machine is actually difficult, dirty off too and if HA is configured, etc it is going to do a full power on sequence. Or is it restart on a new server and be automatically in the same power state with the same States of memory and cpu until the host has dropped dead? So if I got a connection of the DRC in a vm of windows server and the host dies suddenly and it restarts, reconnect to the session even State immediately before the breaking of the host?

    Thank you

    When ESX\ESXi fails due to power failure:

    No configured HA:

  • Alarm, based on the State of the virtual machine

    Hello

    I just started to evaluate the vFoglight to monitor our infrastructure VMware and so far, I really like the product, but there are a lot of things to take.

    Y at - it a predefined alarm that will enhance and alert and send me an email if a virtual machine crashes or goes offline? The default rule "VMW Virtual Machine power status change" will do that?  I feel that this will tell me if the virtual computer is shut down or restarted, but could not workout if it marked the top if a virtual machine has frozen or crashed.

    In the past I did using the base "no heartbeat Mike" in vsphere.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thank you

    Dan

    Hi Dan,.

    The Virtual Machine VMW power state change will do as below:

    Goal
    This rule triggers an alarm if a virtual machine has been suspended or powered down recently.

    The rule definition
    Conditions                                                                                           State   Action
    The virtual machine was not suspended or updates turned off recently.     Normal no
    The virtual machine has been suspended recently.                               No warning
    The virtual machine has been powered down recently.                                Reviews email VMware admin

    Maybe you can add, action of e-mail to the severity of the warning from the rule.

    I have Win7 Pro SP1 x 64.  I downloaded WindowsXPMode_en - us.exe (from Microsoft downloads) and run it.  The installation seems to work OK (I've specified a different location for the parent virtual hard disk file).  Then, installation happening and I provide the information requested (name of user and password for the XP Mode), updates Windows and OK to the issue of sharing.  The installation program then reports the following error:

    The disk hard virtual parent is in a saved state.  Discard the saved state or stop the virtual machine and try again.

    I get the error even if I try manually configure XP Mode (use the Setup Wizard).  I downloaded the installer XPMode (3 times) and reinstalled several times, always with the same result.  If it helps, I can't locate anywhere .vsv file.

  • How to check if the virtual machine is managed by vCloud Director

    Hello

    I need to find a way to check in Orchestrator so the virtual machine is managed by Director vCloud.

    I can't verify this with PowerCLI command below:

    (get - vm Vm_name *). ExtensionData.Config.ManagedBy.ExtensionKey

    You can get the same information from the VC:VirtualMachine object in vCO.

  • Cannot use 'lab1' host because the host CPU is not compatible with the judgment of the virtual machine suspend state.

    I see that this error was mailed here, but can't seem to find a position with a resolution.

    We use Lab Manager 4.0.4 and just upgraded the hosts in our laboratory.  Before updating to ESXi 4.1 ESX 4.0 u1, we cancelled all VMs in all configurations.  There is none who were suspended, they were all turned off.  We have improved vcenter 4.0 to 4.1 as well.  We moved from a dell poweredge 1950 with two quad core intel L5410 to a r610 with two quad core intel processor E5506.

    When I try to turn on some of the lab configurations (our VM models all work fine), I get this error:

    • Cannot use 'lab1' host because the host CPU is not compatible with the judgment of the virtual machine suspend state.

    I threw the State for the lab configuration (even if it was turned off and cancelled) and still get this message.  I guess the processor architecture of these chips is quite similar, and both are Intel.

    If I go into this directory of Manager of laboratory inside the data store for one of these virtual machines that does not light and add to the inventory, he turned and starts fine on my server esxi 4.1.  So how do Lab Manager to get account it's well deploy and start it?

    Hey billk.

    Although not supported completely, you can solve it by going to the SQL of Lab Manager database.  Make sure that you back up your database before you do anything like that.

    Open the table "fsdir" and corresponds to the dir_id with the id Lab Manager VM.  Once you find the relevant line, change suspend_proctype_id to null (Zero-Ctrl).  You can do this while Lab Manager is still running.

    The results can be unstable (i.e. Windows can crash if it was a drastic change of CPU), but at least you look at a hard reset.  The bat reset certainly not being able to return to the previous state.

    Also note that while Lab Manager does not include CVS, if you activated, your virtual machines still work in CVS mode.  If you have a mixture of heterogenious of hosts in a cluster for Lab Manager, you can see this question pop up a lot.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with take back the virtual machine because of the VCA, but Lab Manager thinks otherwise and prevents it.

  • Deleting the same files of many virtual machines remotely

    Hi all

    I tried to delete the same file several virtual machines remotely using the following script PowerCLI:

    $a = Get - VM | %{

    foreach ($nic as $_.) Guest.Nics) {}
    Write-output $nic. IPAddress
    }
    }
    foreach ($i in $a)
    {$b = get-WmiOBJECT-query "SELECT * from CIM_DataFile where Name='C:\\test\\deleteme.exe'"-computername $i}
    $b.delete)

    }

    It works perfectly when I run the script on the host virtual machines while I am running the script PowerCLI. When I Connect-viserver to another host however and try to run the script, I get the dreaded "RPC server is unavailable error (HRESULT: 0x800706BA)" for Get-WmiObject.  Virtual machines don't have Windows Firewall and have all TCP/IP, RPC and WMI services started, so who could eliminate any possibility.

    I am also able to run other scripts that use the Get-wmiobject across all virtual machines such as scripts to change the DNS or Netbios name across many machines on different hosts.

    Any comments would be greatly appreciated and please feel free to comment if you know maybe other ways which can delete files on multiple virtual machines in any other way.  Installation PowerCLI to run the script locally on each host would be a laborious process to do.

    Thank you very much!

    Best regards

    To solve the problem with the quotes, you can use double quotes inside the string. Like this:

    «del "«c:\documents and settings\text.exe»»»

    Or you can use for the string single quotes and double quotes inside:

    "del"c:\documents and settings\text.exe"

  • Stop and restart the virtual machines in the remote server

    I need to close virtual machines running guests 4 1 ESX from a remote server (IBM System i).

    The remote server in fact control the storage used by ESX and VM OS, so I'll have to scripts running on the remote server that:

    Stop the virtual machine

    Performs maintenance

    Reboot the virtual machine

    I tried to understand the big picture of the reading discussions here, but I'm still confused.

    VMA is to provide the best way for the virtual machines of withdrawal from a script running on a remote server?

    Scripts can I use SSH to connect to the vSphere environment to run scripts or issue the command?

    Thank you.

    vCLI (really its vSphere SDK for Perl), PowerCLI, VI Java, etc are all vSphere SDK to correct and they are a of the client-side bindings different scripts and programming languages which bind to the vSphere API. When I say 'API', I mean using one of these SDK is you use the vSphere API to perform the work.

    The SDK is initiated on the remote server, this can be windows, linux, etc as long as it supports one of these boxes to tools. In general, for admins, you will use either vCLI (vSphere SDK for Perl) that supports Linux and Windows, or if you are more windows-oriented, you can use PowerCLI.

    Documentation has been referenced in my first post, please take some time the documents because they provide much more detail on the use cases for each + a lot of examples with orders. Yet once, there no involved SSH if you use the vSphere API. As I told, vMA is a virtual appliance, you can download and start using if you do not want to install vCLI or PowerCLI on a remote system, this is assuming that you are comfortable in a Linux environment. If you're not, then I highly recommend using PowerCLI, who will need a remote server for Windows.

  • Generate the CSV file to the virtual machine by using get-stat statistics

    Hi all

    I put my VC for taking samples every 5 minutes for 3 days.

    I would create a PowerCLI script that I can then run on an ad hoc basis to connect to my VC and to get the details for ALL of the virtual machines that are managed by this CR and fill in a CSV (c:\foo.csv):

    • Name of the virtual machine

    • The ESX VM host is currently sitting

    • total number of virtual processors assigned to VM

    • total memory allocated to the VM

    • memory active average used by the virtual machine in the 3 days using samples of 5 minutes

    • average mhz CPU used by VM spent 3 days using samples of 5 minutes

    I have attached a sample file XLS of CSV output should look like.

    If anyone can give me a code to achieve or get on well on my way, I would appreciate it a lot.

    Kind regards

    Alex

    OK, so what you want is something like this then?

    Get-VM | Where {$_.PowerState -eq "PoweredOn"} |
     Select Name, Host, NumCpu, MemoryMB,
               @{N="Cpu.UsageMhz.Average";E={[Math]::Round((($_ | Get-Stat -Stat cpu.usagemhz.average -Start (Get-Date).AddHours(-72) -IntervalMins 5 -MaxSamples (12) | Measure-Object Value -Average).Average),2)}},
               @{N="Mem.Usage.Average";E={[Math]::Round((($_ | Get-Stat -Stat mem.usage.average -Start (Get-Date).AddHours(-72) -IntervalMins 5 -MaxSamples (12) | Measure-Object Value -Average).Average),2)}}

    I think that the issue that you have with the missing stat might be to do with your logging levels in VC, if these are not set correctly it will not save these stats for this period of time.

    What do you get if you do a simple:

    get-vm "SingleVM" | Get-Stat -Stat cpu.usagemhz.average

    If you found this information useful, please consider the allocation of points for correct or helpful.

  • Remote access to the virtual machine from another computer?

    is it possible to access my virtual machine, I have on my desk from the local network on a Bill pro forma raspberry for example or this kind of a thing is not possible?

    VMware Workstation (or player) is needed on the source machine, i.e. one on which the virtual machine is running. Access to a properly configured VM trough the network is essentially the same as the access to a physical system.

  • Unable to the virtual machine to a remote desktop another PC host then.

    I would be grateful for any assistance with this issue.

    At this point how to configure a network adapter on the virtual computer to get an IP address for an existing dhcp server?

    To gain a better understanding of the VMware Virtual Infrastructure of network I strongly suggest you read 14 chapters (setting up a virtual network) & 15 (advanced virtual networking) in the Manual of the workstation user , still less the rest of the documentation. (Also available in the help file of VMware Workstation).

    Then change the virtual computer's network adapter to use connected by a bridge.
