Chess Titans freezes computer with Windows 7

Upgrade to new computer from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and everything seems to work fine except the game Chess Titans in the beam of Microsoft games. When you run this game, the display shows the program splash screen and then displays a black screen in and out; and freezes the computer how far I have to restart. It actaully has worked well when I had Windows Vista, it just started to have problems of the the intall of Windows 7. Also I don't have the most current version of Directx 11.  I would really apreciate if someone can give me input on how to solve this problem.

Hi Swinget,

After the upgrade to Windows 7, I recommend you update the drivers for the graphics card, this could be a problem with drivers for the graphics card, follow these steps to update the drivers:

1. click on Start.
2. enter Device Manager to launch the search.
3. expand display adapter in the Device Manager window.
4. right click on the device.
5. click on Properties.
6. click on Driver tab.
7. click on update drivers.
8. click on OK.

Check if the exclamation points are displayed with the device. The exclamation point indicates a problem with the installed driver.

See the link for update drivers: update a hardware driver that is not working properly: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isn ' t-work properly

Even if the update of drivers does not help, I would say that uninstall you and reinstall the Windows feature set could solve the problem.
1. click on Start.
2. type Optionalfeatures.exe search.
3. click on the symbol + for games for Windows features.
4. uncheck the Chess Titans.
5. click on OK.
6. now restart the computer.
7. follow step 1 to 3 of the .
8. put a checkmark for Chess Titans.
9. click on OK.

Give it a try with the above steps and check if you are able to play the game without freeze him more.

I reformatted my computer with windows 7 and internet explorer 9 is not my games .it installed msn, which I can do on this problem

MSN games are not part of Windows 7 so when you reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 you have lost the. Depending on the type of game you will need to reinstall each game - this may mean to download again MSN. If they are browser based games simply to go to the MSN Web page for the game in the usual way.

If instead of MSN games, you actually mean that games built into Windows 7 as Chess Titans, Spider Solitaire & FreeCell, then you can just turn them on by using the following method:

    1. click on Start (lower-left) and then on Control Panel.

    2. click on programs and features.

    3. on the left side of the screen, click on 'Windows turn features on or off".

    4. find the entry called games & check the box next to it.

    5. click on OK.

    6 reset.

If the games box is already checked, uncheck the box , click OK, restart, then do steps 1-6 above.

  • I bought a new computer with Windows 7 free upgrade. We also have another office.

I bought a new computer with Windows 7 free upgrade. We also have another desktop computer. My son has paid and downloaded Windows 7 Home Premium on this computer (Asus), not knowing that I had the free update. ASUS sent me free upgrade disks. Can I use these on another desktop computer? Or I can download Windows on another desktop computer and transfer my registration to it, and then use the Asus drives on this computer?

Your question has nothing to do with the functionality of Windows Update (vs Windows upgrade), Jan.

That being said, Asus only can answer your specific question. Good luck!

  • Buy a new computer with Windows XP

I currently own a desktop computer that now requires to be updated for memory (softwrae sape memory!).  I don't want the hassle to change everything (I want to be able to transfer any form my computer to a new computer seamlessly) so my question is can I still buy a computer with Windows XP rather than having to upgrade to Windows 7?  Thank you.

    Yes and no.

In the body of your message, your question has been:
I can always buy a computer with Windows XP
The answer is Yes. Here again, it will take a used computer. If you close this doing, I would spend no more than $175 on this subject. Make sure that it comes from a reliable source and has a license to run Windows XP as well as accessories sticker certificate of authenticity to this topic. There are also the seller will give you the means to reinstall Windows, preferably an authentic Windows XP installation CD.
To answer the question in your subject line, the answer is no.
For what it's worth, there's nothing wrong with buying a new PC which has Windows 7. There is a transfer assistant that you can use that will make the process easier. If you find it's too hard, find a qualified technician. Do not forget that you would still need to transfer files from your old XP PC to your XP PC to a little more recent opportunity, too (if this is the option you choose)! It is not as transparent as you hope. :-(
    Or...
Maybe you can get two years out of your current PC (might as well as extended Support for XP will last for two more years). If so, we can help you with your memory most likely problem. Let us know. If so, we will need to know the make, model and model number of the PC and how much RAM is installed.
