Choose a profile Public or Private Network?

Am I right in thinking that the more secure option for a network is Public in windows 8?

Only, I have a PC desktop that is connected to a router and a printer.

Installing Windows missed me a private network setting. Should I change this in a framework of Public network or is it not really necessary?

Am I being too cautious?

Hello

Means of private connections you'll have some active options by default for example sharing file and printer sharing, private means that you do not. It is recommended to use private house connections to ensure when you buy another system they can reach eachother.
It is recommended that use you Public in cafes, trains, McDonald's and so on, to ensure that nobody can open a connection to your system and look at your files.
So in theory I would say that the private home use, there is no need to worry about the aslong that others do not have access to your network, which they shouldn't have...
Hope this helps you

I turned on my lap and a huge dialog box appears with the message above. I didn't know whether to 'Access' or 'Cancel' then just closed. Please explain.

Firefox 36 requires the Firefox Windows to create new access rules, and Windows asks if you really want to do this.

I do not think that these rules are necessary for the current version, but are designed to take account of the features provided in a future release, so you can cancel it just for the moment.

  • Migrate to vSphere/ESX4 host of the no routed private network to the public network mgmt mgmt

    Hello

I'm looking for advice on the best method to move guests to U2 ESX4.0 of a private network that is not routed on one vlan routed public. It is complicated by the requirement to keep all the VMs on the server farm running with no downtime / failure. Is this possible?

    Our farm config is:

1 x VM VC4 (32 bit) with two network adapters:

-1st NETWORK adapter connected to the vlan routed public (193.x.x.x)

-2nd NETWORK card that is connected to the private network not routed for mgmt/service console all ESX hosts. (10.0.0.x)

-Files local host on the vCenter server for DNS resolution of the ESX hosts on private non-routed network mgmt

10 + ESX 4.0 U2, console svc host 1, console svc 2 and all about vmotion network private not routed.

-The local Hosts file on each ESX host facilitates DNS on the network of mgmt ESX host.

    * We intend to keep the vmotion/vmkernel on the private vlan not routed

Here are the steps that I have written so far:

1 Vmotion all VMs off ESX host and switch to Maintenance Mode

    2. unplug and remove host ESX VC

    3. use VMware KB Article: 1022078 to change the address on the service console

4 update the hosts file on the VC and all ESX hosts with this ESX host's new public address

5 re - add a host to the CR

Q: I would be then able to vmotion between virtual private machines NET ESX host on this new net public ESX host?

    All suggestions welcome.

    Hello

To be honest, I have not fallen on this article before, except to say that a number of occasions I've reviewed or renamed hosts. When I do, it always works.

I usually restart the agents with the order you suggest just to feel safe.

  • Specifying the NIC Public private network cards during the Installation of the grid

    Version: 11.2
    Operating system: Solaris

We will install the 11.2 grid.
These are IP addresses, we will allocate for the Public sector and private Interfaces
    bge0--->10.80.143.214 ---- for public network (Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 )

    bge1--->172.132.116.81 ----- for private Interconnect (Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 )
But, during the Installation of the grid, the grid Setup will ask only those IPs with the last byte 0 as shown below url
    bge0--->10.80.143.0 ---- for public network

    bge1--->172.132.116.0 ----- for private Interconnect
    http://4.BP.blogspot.com/_0ut-UEg1S3k/SqI3w1QgVLI/AAAAAAAAA1w/Zq6jwWWh_48/S1600-h/8.PNG

The installer actually displays the "subnet". But Public and private NIC of the subnet is 255.255.255.0
Is this really? Why the installer of the grid is not inviting the real IPs allocated to networks of Public and private?

    Hello
    Litte Note:

Why the installer of the grid is not inviting the real IPs allocated to networks of Public and private?

The cluster runs under Network (e.g. 10.80.143.0) under any one or two IP, because several IP addresses of the network in question can be used (it is about scalability and availability), you install a cluster it show the networks used, not used IP (this occurs in any system of cluster, you must specify the network).

    Hello

You must open a new folder under the main hard drive (or any disk storage) (you can also add void structure of folders for) and share the new folder as a whole. and leave only the public folders. Move the relevant files to the new folder structure.

    Maybe this can help more.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share

If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

Since you have a network with Win 7 and the other version of Windows, you must configure Windows 7 as work network.

In the center of the network, by clicking on the type of network opens the window to the right.

  • Configuring the private network or disable questions for the network discovery in network and sharing Center.

I just got my laptop all cleaned and had everything updated. When I got it back I was mainly concerned how my network and discovery sharing would work, because we never had a home computer and a laptop computer at a time. Our PC at home has always defined for a private network. Today, they are both defined for the private sector, the laptop will probably always be at home too, but I was curious to see how the printer share everything would work on my laptop. It would not print and I checked just the settings that the guy I of any program for me usually had the top settings. On my laptop that I was first checking out and the network discovery has been to custom on both, one on my PC was on, laptop has never been verified we or off, file sharing has been enabled on both. public folder sharing off on both, printer sharing turned off the PC at home, but on laptop, so much time, I guess me to turn on the PC I don't know yet. Printer password sharing is on the PC and laptop. I try essentially whether it is what you would call a custom setting make for a firewall setting, or could someone please just kinda tell me if the sharing of network discovery should be turned on on the laptop and the PC, or was it not suppose to be turned on to the laptop, but on the PC only? Which should be lit and which should not be enabled in the configuration of the private network? I just want to be able to print my laptop if I want to. Thank you

OK I did some research on the private network connections, and I have a few questions:

    • Is it true that a connection to a vpn is possible thanks to a transport to a Wi - fi (I want to connect to a network non - bes)?
    • As far as I know, you can connect to a vpn only if create you a vpn manually account via the phone options menu. Is it possible to programmatically create the connection without having to manually create the profile?
    • This connection can be established via a proxy server?
    • Any article or the sample code will be really appreciated

BlackBerry Smartphones have supported integrated to connect through a VPN using WiFi.  Other transport routes are not supported out of the box for this.

There is no way to programmatically configure a VPN.  Virtual private networks can be configured on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server and pushed to users.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server is able to connect through a proxy server.  All of the BlackBerry Java API does not include API to manage proxy communications.

We have our TCS on a private network and have the lanes of traffic through the network load balancers that rely on the public network to provide all access public and private.

  • Build a private network between two physical hosts in ESXi 4.0 for VM guests

    Hi all

I am a newbie in the use of VMWare ESXi for my company testings and I have a question on networks

private network between two guests of computer virtual and it needed to do more real testings on ESXi environment.

But now I have two Dell servers mounted and with two ESXi 4.1 installed on these servers.

Each server has two network cards connected to the same network switch.

In this essay, I have to install a RAC Oracle 11 g as guests of virtual computer on two separate server Dell for

    two RAC nodes.

The installation Guide for the PAP, I need to build a network between two nodes.

My superficial knowledge network, the private network address is not the same as

the public network address, in this case, the IP address provided by the network switch is

10.1.10.X and it should be public network address.

In this case, how can I do the private network of ESXi settings?

I do the settings of the network switch? I'm not the guy of networking and really

want your expertise in this area.

If you have an idea or experience to share, please kindly help.

Yes, that's correct. It would have made you have a private network layer 3 between the two guests in the 192.168.1.x address range.

In general, you also want to isolate a layer 2 (ethernet) with the VLANS on the physical switch, but if this is not possible at this time then it could be implemented now and you could later add VLAN in the switch.

It is also the reason why I think you should create a new portgroup on the same vSwitch as other existing exchanges. If you later configure VLAN to the physical switch, it will be very easy to activate this on the "private" portgroup

  • Cards VMnet1 and VMnet8 and private network of the type of work

    Hello

I installed VMware Workstation 7.1.4 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and I created a virtual machine so that it goes on internet in bridge mode.

I noticed that, in the 'network and sharing Center' on the host (192.168.1.2), VMnet1 and VMnet8 adapters are associated with an unidentified public network.

Using the virtual network Editor, as do change the parameters of VMnet1 and VMnet8 to ensure that the network, associated with those adapters adapters, is considered to be a private network work type (category = private, location = work)?

    Thank you

    Good bye

The best way to proceed is to exclude the two cards VMWare Windows NLA (Network Location Awareness), which is what controls your network location. Other suggestions (Windows Firewall disabled, among other things) is not acceptable.

  • How to configure the private network interface between two VMS os invited using red hat linux

    Hello:

I'm trying to set up a Real Application Cluster on my home office so that I can install Oracle 11 g RAC which is a facility where you have two servers accessing the same shared of storage (chipboard).

In addition they will have a network interface private and a public network interface, so it will be for public interface eth0 and eth1 for interconnection of private networks.

I read that I can set up using VMWare server, create Virtual Machines and install the operating system invited to them.

I intend to install Red Hat Linux guest OS.

My question is basically, how can I do for the establishment of the private network eth1, will be the guest OS to automatically install the sense (do I need to have 2 NIC cards for this), or where and how can this be configured?

Also, how these two speeches of Virtual Machines to another on the private interconnect?

And is it possible to use DHCP or do I need to add the IP addresses manually?

Very grateful for your contribution to this topic, thank you.

Company has 5 static public IP addresses. One is used by SBS, another for the public wireless network. I would use a third party to be able to access the ESX and perform remote management.

I am able to use SBS Remote Workplace hop on the server or any computer of client desktop and can run VI Client from there, but prefer to do it from my computer so I don't attach resources to the office. two vSwitches - vSwitch0 is the 'network' and vSwitch1 is the "Public network". I configured a VMkernel Port on vSwitch1 like the default (vSwitch0) "network management". vSwitch1 takes the address of the gateway on the private network and when I change it to the ISP on vSwitch1, it also changes on vSwitch0.

    Is this possible?

Welcome to the VMware community forums.  The VMkernel can have as a gateway, so that's why on vSwitch0 changes when you change vSwitch1.   Technically, there is nothing to stop you adding another on vSwitch1 and vmkernel port giving a public IP address (which you can then connect to the VI client).   That said, it's not recommended to to do.  The management for ESXi port is best left on a private network and possibly protected by a firewall.   Put the vmkernel Internet port would be like putting IP to an IP SAN management or the management of a switch on the Internet.  Yes you can do it, but this isn't a good idea.  Instead, you might consider putting in a simple VPN server and then connect to ESXi through that.
