Windows didn't include because a large focus groups many customers complained that it was difficult to find programs, organize the elements or even reach level 5 of drop-down menus without the mouse touch another forcing all the collapse (like XP).  Thus, classic Start menu has been removed for ease of use.

But you can retrieve it with 3 third party programs.  For example: http://tinyurl.com/ycofy7a

  • Start Menu folder blocked on my desk (not the normal startup button)

There is a blocked on my office marked 'Start Menu' folder icon. When I click and drag it to the start menu, it creates a shortcut, it wont let me do a right-click Delete, I have no idea how it got there, my Start menu to regular is still there, but I can't seem to get rid of this new icon. Someone knows what to do?

Found this note to TechRepublic Web site:

Right-click on start - properties Menu. Change the mode of display Start Menu, clicking on "Classic Start Menu" or "Start Menu", and then click OK. The folder of the Start Menu on the desktop have now disappeared. Change the setting to return to normal.

  • Vista Start Menu problems

This is similar to the problems of others on the Vista Start Menu and the taskbar. I looked at the answer, tried to do, but it is already on the "'Start Menu" look, with the "Classic Start Menu" unchecked. "

He remains in the classic style. Even the scrollbars, windows and Microsoft Paint Program file have a look outdated. In fact, everything, but my Google Chrome browser is outdated, even if the scroll bar is white and square.

I love my computer and what she looked like before. This has happened after that my laptop has suffered a systematic update. I leave my laptop rest and waited to reconnect. The first I noticed was the Start Menu obsolete, white square and unpleasant. Another thing I noticed, it was a bubble of a word on a system event Notification. I don't know if it plays a role in this dilemma.

I want just the Start Menu of Vista to look like a Vista Start menu.

    Hi MLD1990,

Step 1: start by checking the event notification to know what could have happened.

    See the links below:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/open-Event-Viewer

Step 2: this could also be a problem with the themes, you can try to change to a different theme (Vista's Aero theme) and then check out.

For more information, see the links below:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-desktop-theme

Step 3: you can also check the recently installed updates to know what could be the cause.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Start menu doesn't return to the view of Vista

Hello.  I am very new to this forum thing and I think that this problem is easy to solve rather than to pay $60 support solve for me.

I started my computer until this afternoon and a necessary for download through Microsoft Windows Update.  I had to leave so I clicked on "Download updates and then stop the icon" on my Start Menu in Vista.  When I am back, I restarted my computer and my Start Menu is in classic mode.  I read through some of the emails here and couldn't find one that related to my problem.  How to move to Vista Start Menu?  I know that it is possible, because all users on my PC have the Vista Start Menu.

Here's what I've tried so far:
    (1) right-click right properties and start menu.  Click on the menu start, customize and hit by default... nothing.
    (2) restart... nothing.

All the tips are greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much.

    HI fur13

    Thanks for posting your question.

    (1) right-click right properties and start menu.  Click on the start menu.
Under the Startmenu, there are two options

    • Start menu
    • Classic Start menu

Check the ' option which is not select, apply, click Ok and you're done.

Also I'm not sure what you are referring to so just a Word.
If you're talking about this button and this button does not appear as it is given in the picture. I would like to know, please try to explain as much as you can.

  • Windows 7 Start Menu Worthless - how to make it useful?

Once upon a time, you can arrange the start menu with folders of shortcuts for easy access to your most frequently used programs.  This is no longer allowed.  Now you need to pin a single shortcut to the start menu (as opposed to a related shortcuts folder), or access the long list "all programs."  It's a bit like you giving the choice of the purchase of gasoline by tanker or the.

If you try to pin a folder of shortcuts related to the start menu, it is accessible only in the form of a folder, not a menu.  Is it possible to restore the old features of the Start Menu?

One of these two tips might help:

    • You can organize Start Menu by adding your own files:

In Windows Explorer, open this location: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ (this location is specified to the single user. If you want to have an overall effect that is visible to all users, you should go here: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start start\program )

You can create files there and then just simply drag and drop shortcuts on the Start Menu.

      or...

    • You can try to restore the classic Start Menu
  • Change the start menu of windows 7 to look like XP

Hey there, can someone tell me how to make the start menu in windows 7 look and works as the XP menu start. He drives me crazy I'm not I could do it in Vista, but not 7

    Hi Boopgirl,

If you are referring to the menu classic start, so here's an alternative of third parties who use a lot of people.

    Official site of CSMenu:
    http://www.csmenu.com/

CSMenu is a small application that works like the classic Start menu. It is designed for Windows 7, which does not have a start menu classic. Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Desktop Experience]

I just follow this suggestion qnd it is ACE, thank you very much. I really don't like restrictions on the Organization and navigation of the new start menu and it's true that I was disappointed 7 did not have the ability to switch to the classic, as they did with Vista.
But this little app is great and it looks even better than the original with its background of transparency.

  • Why they provide a compression of the start menu?

I would really like to know this because I love the way the start menu works on Windows XP.
Since Windows Vista, and now with Windows 7, when I go to "all programs" all my program items are listed in a 1 list under each other and considered as nested when I click on a folder. I always have a certain programs installed that use the start menu and it really clutters the list. Of course, everything is sorted, but which is not what I mean. I would like to see "all programs" fold on display again as the classic Start menu or how it worked in Windows XP. It worked simple and effective. Now I need to find a great list of applications, I installed and sometimes to open a file that makes the list even longer.

Now I use 3rd party applications which changes the start menu to do these things, but these programs are often not free and when they do they have other problems that I won't discuss here for obvious reasons. ;)

So my question is simple: is it still re-create they way manipulated XP style 'all programs' expansion? As it is now it greatly reduced my experience with Windows. All the guys at the office think also that it is quite a problem.

I hope that I have explained the situation well otherwise I try to answer your questions. :)

    Thanks in advance.

  • Customize the menu classic start

    Currently, it is what is in my Start menu classic;

    Windows Update

    Set Program Access

    ----------------------------------

    Programs

    Documents

    Parameters

    Search

    Help

    Run

The control panel is buried under settings and the printer, etc. Before I had to rebuild my system and re - install XP SP3, control panel used to be above the line of the top with the Windows Update link. How can I put it up here?

Open the Control Panel, enter the "icon" in the address bar with the left mouse button and drag the Start button, pause, after boot opens, place the shortcut to the desired location.
